It needs to be made clear that that doesn’t work with all games.
It worked particularly well for destiny 2 because its player base is RNG addicted dope addicts.
Destiny 2 itself is built like a MMORPG. Its a looter shooter, with raids/dungeons/Rotating microtransactions and seasonal shop updates.
It also has a ton of different experiences built into it, with both PVE and PVP elements.
And a Story baked into it setting.
Destiny 2’s content updates are usually quite big as well, with new Raids/Story/Balance patches given to existing items.
Now.
Compare that with Infinite.
Season 2 seems to only be getting 2 new maps. And if you don’t like BTB, you’re really only getting 1 new map.
Its getting Koth and some other mode I have no interest in.
No news about long term progression updates, I still have a giant stockpile of XP boosts so the battle pass will be completed in less than 2 weeks. That’s if I even buy the battle pass since the cosmetic system is still wildly abusive and uses Anti-consumer tricks like artificial scarcity and shop items costing incompatible amounts of credits to item cost.
The live service nature of the game has killed my interest in the game,
as Im sure it has for a ton of other people, seeing as how the game fell from 4th to 12th place in popularity on the xbox store, in the 4 - 5 months that the game as been live.
There is something fundamentally wrong with Halo infinite.
Something going on at 343i is brutally hurting the game.
They have been given MONTHS of feedback, from both the community and Halo’s professional players.
But 343i has not been listening, Hell they have been actively silencing people.
Yea there are some differences between Infinite and Destiny, that was just one example of many games out there that have successfully “relaunched”. I don’t think season 2 is going to be any sort of big moment for the game. Like I said, I think 343 is going to make a huge deal out of the BR/Warzone/mystery mode that CA is developing, which roll probably be dropping in season 3 or 4.
And sure, there are a lot of games out there that have failed to ever recoup their player bases. Most cases of those are titles who’s companies spend their last dollar trying to bring the game into relevance. That’s not exactly a problem MS game studios needs to worry about with Infinite
the only way i see this game truely recovering at this point is to do a FF14 Realm Reborn style relaunch, while i think 343i just straight up needs to be sacked at this point given their track record, if they truely care and want this game to succeed then they need a full blown relaunch.
announce the game is going dormant for some time, suggest people take a break from the game til then, and in the background work hard for a year or 2 to truely flesh out the game, and develop a full suite of features and content, with 20+ Maps, and a bunch of modes, Coop, Forge, Social Features like Theatre, file share, Custom games browser, full on progression system, Ect
and then when ready to relaunch, kick start a massive Advertisement campaign to get peoples attention and show them the game is now officially back and truely kicking with a plethora of content.
this Slow trickle of content backed up with 0 Communication from the Devs for a year or 2 isnt going to cut it, First impressions are everything and 343i Screwed that chance To bibilical Proportians. a Full relaunch is what is needing to happen to bring this game back under good rep by the gamign community as a whole.
if they even TRY that, This game is full Blown Dead.
even normal players likely wont want to stick around since Forge is going be something important to possibly keep the life blood of the game pumping since this game is on critical life support mode.
I fall into the camp of “I’m ok with restricted color schemes because I actually get to see my colors in game for basically the first time ever in franchise history” camp.
I understand FFA and firefight have always let you do this, but those are also some of my least played game modes overall.
And to give some credence to the other side of the argument… I’m also not currently able to use my favorite color combination I’ve traditionally used for other games because of the current systems, which isn’t ideal for sure.
I don’t think they’ll ever get launch numbers back or recover the hype train. That would take something drastic like a Battle Royale or some other big mode. Basically a re-release of the game. Forge is not that. Even best Forge only matters if people are already playing your game. Campaign DLC is its own beast entirely and I do think that will garner interest.
However, I think the multiplayer trailer stuff might do a lot to hook people back into playing. Enough to show up, play the new maps and burn through the Season 2 Battle Pass.
By the sounds of it we are getting at least two sets of armour which will have their own upgrades. That’s not bad.
Is it three months of content? Have they shown everything? For most people probably not but it would help restore some confidence and hopefully capture a stable population.
The potential for good custom games is the only thing that I believe will actually save this heap. If I base all my hopium on the leaks for Forge, we will have some pretty damn beautiful maps. I have no idea how long it will take us to get the modes for those maps, like Infection is a pretty huge part of most custom games, but we will at least have some fun and nice looking maps made by fans. I have a lot of hype for some good BTB maps. Bring on the Blood Gulch remakes
Yeah I’ve matched against Echinda on several occasions now. Which is cool but also annoying as I live in Washington state and she lives in Pennsylvania and both times the game was on her local server and not mine. Because you know nothings as fun as playing Infinite on 80-100 ping.
I’ve had 80-100 ping since the betas, since there are no Microsoft Azure servers near me. Hell, I’m LUCKY if I get those numbers. I’m so used to UNSTABLE LATENCY/PACKET LOSS warnings, it’s pathetic
I think that’s definitely going to happen, but it’s probably the last thing on 343’s priority list, which is unfortunate.
H5 and MCC’ had the Custom Games Browser (CGB) vzwadded into the last update of each title. Unfortunately that makes me believe 343 thinks the CGB is a EoL feature, not a “needed” feature for the active life cycle of the game
US, but the data centers are in Texas, Virginia, Illinois, and California, so if you’re in one of the states near the corners of the country, like Washington, Maine, Florida, or worse, like Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, etc, that’s a huge distance from the data centers. Also RIP Canada since it only has data centers in Quebec on the east coast. I guess Maine can reach Quebec and Toronto servers. That’s considering you even find people in those servers, and you weren’t reaching across the whole country.
One of my friends plays in Texas and another one plays in California, so I get dragged across the country if I join them, but they get great ping. I have a personal ping of 15 ms. Microsoft should have more than enough money to make more data centers and better services around the globe. Come on Bill Gates. You’re one of the richest people on the planet, spend some money on better servers.
