So When Do We Consider Infinite Dead?

Out of the 10 games I played tonight, only one was on connection to my local server. Concurrent steam players are at 2% of what they were at launch. Pretty much every Halo content creator is no longer actually enjoying or even putting on the facade of trying to be positive about the game. The title says it all.

In my opinion, it’s make or break come May. The only way the game will survive is if Microsoft get’s their -Yoink!- together and produces a product that people actually enjoy. I think there’s plenty of fans willing to return, but only if there is a huge overhaul in the game. And that does not seem to be the case with any indication 343 has given us.

I’d love to hear everyone’s opinion on this.

I totally agree with that! But honestly what are we expecting? They already told us what season two holds… two maps- and 2 new game modes(king of the hill already existed) …… i do not think that is enough to jumpstart the hype and quell fans frustrations

When you can no longer find matches to play. It’s that simple pretty much.

The sooner they bring the required changes, the better it would be (I know this is a Captain Obvious statement). If they manage to bring a sizable content drop, together with associated marketing this might do the trick of reviving the game later on - the question is more about whether they will work on that after the population has declined too far.

Season 2 most likely will give the game a population boost in May (new BP, new Maps, new Modes). The question is how long this will keep people interested. With luck long enough for Season 3 to roll around - although I doubt it if there isn’t enough progress on some of the topics (e.g. overall progression system and that one seems quite a bit off into the future).

Halos never die, they’re just missing in action.

If they drop Season 3 Forge and you don’t see a significant uptake of players or there’s a brief intake but they all go away.

Season 2 if it has good marketing might be able to claw people back. Especially if they can at least provide enough to do unlock wise and sort out the desync stuff. But currently how are people going to know Season 2 is out? I don’t know, maybe the story trailer will get the hype again.

Do you see tons of people on your friends list playing halo like back when it was a top fps? If not then its dead. Not sure how people are throwing the " if season 2 has a big content drop" idea. They told us whats there and its next to nothing. Accept what the reality guys

While everything you said is true, a lot of us grew up playing this franchise. Giving up on Infinite is such a bittersweet thing because the core gameplay is actually really good.

This is the closest Halo has been to relevancy in 10 years and all likely hood giving up means watching it die for good. It’s a tough pill to swallow for sure.

If 343i fails the community here it’s over for them.

Well this one is missing all the actions

My friends too, and it is weird! I know for several of them, they were REALLY waiting for Infinite, but when it released the way it did, they were gone quick, but others that aren’t “Halo” fans played a little and now their Xbox’s primarily stay off.

Oh dear. If they tried that it would be disastrous.

But you can see it. We’ll give you a basic tool set and then sell assets for premium content creators to use, or have a store where you can sell those creations if we get a cut. Or some kind of Forge subscription where you get better functions or access to maps. It’s something you would be tempted to monetise directly.

Dead?
Probably never. I mean, people were still playing halo 3 on the 360 servers up until a few months ago.
Halo doesn’t die, there will be people who play it. But is it a relevant game?
Infinite could be one of the most expensive games of all time if you believe the rumors of their budget, but the result cannot be satisfactory to anyone at 404 or Microsoft. For this to be the leading Xbox title, the question that needs to be asked is. Can halo sell an Xbox to a customer who is not already a halo fan?
If the answer is yes, then the franchise is fine. Its being touted as a 10 year plan and once they fix the issues, people will return.
If the answer is no, not only do I fear that infinite will be scrapped, but the very real possibility exists that halo will lose its crown for a franchise more relevant.

So when do we consider Infinite Dead you ask?

When 343i has forced me to run my MCC server more than I play Halo Infinite! Sorry :frowning:

Tough call to make.

343 Industries is arguably one of the worst companies when it comes to launching games in the entire gaming sector, but they’re known for quality long-term support.

That said, they sure are taking a damnably long time to get that “long term support” moving. If anything, Season 2 should be the metric to go by when it comes out. I’m not saying that it’ll be the be-all-end-all of what we should expect, but if there isn’t a lot more going on with that season than they’re telling us, the game’s definitely in trouble.

I’m not totally optimistic about season 2, all I want is a stable gameplay and I don’t see it coming soon. I don’t give a damn about new maps and game mode if in the middle of a fight my br stop shooting without a reason or the guy I’m about to punch just disappears. I’m not playing right now, I’ll see what s2 is about and decide if infinite is worth another chance at the moment.

This is actually becoming a reality for many players outside of the US.

I would be flabbergasted if they released forge as a paid item or with almost any pay-required content.

They released H5 forge on console as a free update and on PC as a standalone free platform. Taking a hard u-turn on free forge would be disastrous from almost any perspective you look at it

“So When Do We Consider Infinite Dead?”

Well, let me put it this way; It’s the middle of a world pandemic Halo Infinite is in the ICU and they’re still looking for a ventilator, and the attending doctor is not talking to you.

It seems pretty grim to me :-/
