Is it really that difficult to have a playlist up? Even one that has low population? Do they not want people to enjoy the content they bought? Instead people have to go onto message boards and send out mass-messages to players hoping that enough people have the DLC to set up even one match. It shouldn’t be our responsibility to set up matches (or have astronomically good luck) so that our money doesn’t go to waste. Just wondering.
I honestly don’t even know.

Said it yourself. There is room for other playlists out there that the majority would prefer to play rather than a permanent DLC playlist.
DLC playlists tend to show up in rotationals every few months and even then manage to hold a pretty poor population.
That’s mainly the reason why you don’t see a permanent DLC playlist.

But would that really matter now? at least the players who bought it can play it now. i borrowed my halo 4 for 1 year and when i came back ( i have limited edition) to download the new dlc i could not play it.

When your game has 15k players during peak, it does matter. You don’t want poorly populated playlists at all.

and around 3k of them have dlc and want to play it
Reach used to have a dlc only playlist that would only hit around 100-200 players and I loved that playlist. It was literally the only reason I got on to play that game most days. When they removed that playlist well after Reach had been out it made no sense to me. Much like Halo 4 not having a permanent DLC playlist now.
To this day since reach’s DLC playlist went away I have never got to play on maps like Anchor 9, tempest, condemned, breakpoint, highlands, ridgeline and breakneck.
Much like in Halo 4 where after the champion bundle playlist dissolved I never saw Vertigo and the Pit again in normal playlists. Maps like Monolith, Skyline, and Outast to name a few I never saw again either … all gone … forever. It’s like dlc maps in halo games are temporary and not meant to be played again. Only in Halo 3 do I see a nominal occurrence of dlc maps show up in non-dlc required playlists.
343 just doesn’t care. We have asked and asked and asked. A few sycophants will always whine about low numbers. It’s so much better to have to play the same 3 maps over and over and over in BTB/Heavies than to have variety.
Gears of War 3 has 25 maps and lower population than H4, and ZERO problems with having the DLC in the playlist.
No other game I’ve known has simply removed the DLC. It’s a slap in the face to anyone who paid 30 dollars for all of the DLC.
There’s no GOOD reason to not have DLC. It’s just -Yoink!- away hard work and art assets for no good reason.

Yet when a DLC playlist finally gets added, those “3k” are nowhere to be seen.
You would rather play the same maps over and over and over instead of having a little variety?
> You would rather play the same maps over and over and over instead of having a little variety?
I don’t think anyone said that.
This is how it goes.
Everyone wants it
It comes back
Nobody plays it
It’s removed.
The next time will be no different

Please don’t put words in my mouth, I’d love to see a DLC playlist alive and thriving but as you can see, it doesn’t ever play out that way.
The ideal solution would be a DLC search option that would guarantee matching you with other DLC players and make at least one DLC map show up 100%.
This would allow a playlist spot not to be wasted and if players want to wait for a DLC game, they can without slowing down the matchmaking experience for anyone but themselves.
What they should do is make DLC required in regular playlists. One of the reasons no one buys DLC is because they can always just hop in to their favorite high population playlist without it, and even when there is a DLC playlist there is always a similar playlist with more people.
A simple monthly rotation of BTB, Team Slayer, and Team Objective requiring DLC would be fair to everyone and encourage more DLC purchases.

Were you playing Halo 4 when Team Slayer required the Majestic DLC? It went from one of the most popular playlists, all the way to one of the least populated.
It stayed for I believe 2 or so weeks and was eventually removed. Making playlists DLC required doesn’t solve the problem. A DLC search option would be ideal.

I played Halo 3 and it was fantastic, never once had any trouble finding matches with DLC. People understood back then that their gameplay experience was worse if they didn’t buy the new maps. In Reach and Halo 4 it’s arguable that your experience is worse if you do buy DLC (and your suggestion would make it certain).
The point is that making DLC required obviously did prevent the problem. It will probably fix it now if 343i actually tries. Giving up after two weeks is not even close to an attempt to address this issue.
i dont care for the dlc maps anyway but how about they put all the original playlist game types that we need to fill commendations on back on to stay becuase i cant unlock stuff if i cant play that game. then add in the dlc and make a playlist that is just a random select like the old fighting game character select that would make the old stuff and games blend well with the dlc and add some excitement

You can’t compare Halo 3 to Halo 4 though. Halo 3 not only had more players compared to Halo 4 in its lifespan, but it also got Halo 3: Mythic with the release of Halo 3: ODST which came with all 24 multiplayer maps.
Because ODST was such a huge release, many players instantly had access to all of Halo 3’s DLC and it worked great up until Halo: Reach launched.
Now as for Halo 4 & Halo: Reach - there have been MULTIPLE DLC playlists, a lot of which have lasted longer that a two week period and each time, the population got lower and lower to the point were it was removed because of it.
The final DLC playlist in Reach was there for months, seven to be exact and it didn’t suddenly jump up, it got lower and lower each time.
I didn’t read all the replies, but one thing I kept noticing was people griping about low population for the playlist.
Folks, Proving Ground ALWAYS has a low population, yet it’s in. DLC most definitely should have it’s own playlist.
If it’s not going to be required to play in other playlists then gamers start questioning why they ever bought DLC in the first place. We see this mentioned all the time in the forums.
343 needs to steer clear of that by providing a DLC playlist. Yes, it won’t be one of the higher populated playlist, but it WILL give all of us who DID buy those map packs a 100% chance to play on maps we bought.
To do this, I’d say ALL DLC would have to be required to play in that playlist. Otherwise you’d still run into the problem of people having some but not all DLC.
Honestly, I think the way playlist management has been handled in Halo 4 has really HURT the population. Not having a DLC mandatory playlist has killed desire by many to even buy them for the next game.
To sweeten the pot so to speak for DLC, 343 could include gametypes that are not currently available within it. For instance Regicide. Also, instead of having a rotating playlist, get rid of that and put DLC in it’s place. Include King of the Hill (Yes, I know it’s currently available but only for those two weeks during it’s rotation). Other gametypes like Dominion *light, Oddball, Extraction, etc., would be included.
So why do that? Well most of those have commendations attached to them. SO for those folks who want to work on their commendations, they’d have a playlist in which to do so. The caveat being they’d need to have all the DLC to play in it. This would garner funds for 343 (not much likely but some) and provide gamers with many more options not currently available or available on an ongoing basis.

I understand the reasons for no DLC playlist but as others above me have pointed out there are plenty of seemingly permanent low population playlists.
They should release the DLC for free so that every playlist becomes DLC required and we finally get to play some new maps. There is actually a map or two that I have never played. It’s ridiculous.
