Do you make sure to pop them before you complete a challenge now? Do they still get consumed if you don’t complete a challenge at the end of a match? This challenge-only progression system is lame

xp boosters are timed. So just like in the flight, you need to complete a challenge while it’s active. Pretty dumb.
Yea, so far the challenge-only progression system is looking like the biggest black eye regarding the battle pass and progression as a whole. Hopefully they change their minds on this, I don’t feel like it would be that hard. I think MCC had a great system, where your rank is not tied to your battle pass progression. That way you can always be leveling up, but still progress the battle pass at a rate that 343 feels is balanced.

It’s literally just another step in the XP system to waste time. What happns if you forgot to pop a boost before completing a challenge? Sucks to be you apparently.
I’m a bit annoyed I spent so much time and money racking up monster xp boosts now lol
Unless the challenges amount to “complete 1 match” and “win 1 match” XP boosts are just useless.
Yeah, wondered the same thing. With XP only being challenge based and boosters only lasting 30 minutes, they seem to act as somewhat of a gamble. As its likely more than possible to use one and potentially not gain any XP due to any number of reasons.
I feel like they need to replace the 30 minute boosts with match specific ones, complete X matches seems much better than playing 1 CTF game and most of your boost being gone because the boosts only last 30 minutes.
Yeah, I’d originally thought with the XP boosts listing amounts of time, it’d be like, in-match time and at the end of a match you get double “Match Time” XP the way that the longer a match in Halo 5 is, the more XP you seem to get. This is a major misstep and I hope that the feedback on the forums and elsewhere can help them reach the conclusion that this is a bad way to gate progression through Battle Passes that are otherwise nice in that they never expire.
I signed onto Super Animal Royale earlier today (technically yesterday, as I type this at 2AM) and the update they did made it so that you could progress through older Battle Passes, seemingly taking inspiration from Infinite before Infinite is even out. The BP progression in Super Animal Royale is just flat XP from any source, such as completing matches and doing specific challenges on top of that as optional. Other games taking inspiration from Infinite and doing better than it with regards to progression before Infinite has launched, that ain’t a good look.
in the flight i would use them at the start of the day to get double xp on the daily challenges of like “finish 1 match” then "finish two matches"and one double xp timer would get me both those double.
personally though they should either only count down while in match or they should be “double xp for X matches”
I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they changed it so you got battle pass xp simply by playing. Normally when something controversial gets announced, which seems to be happening quite frequently lately, the community is rather split. But as far as this goes, it seems like the overwhelming majority are against challenge only xp. It still has some defenders, but not nearly as many as things like delayed co-op or $60 for campaign.

For this reason, it’s very weird, indeed

Yeah, this seems near unanimously hated. But somethng tells me they won’t change it and we are going to find out it is somehow tied to monetization…

as long as its limited to cosmetics I’m ok with them monetizing whatever they can, it’s a free to play game. but when games don’t having rewarding progression systems, they don’t last long. there’s no winners with this system, its just stupid. I have no idea how the removal of per-match XP is going to encourage anyone to keep playing the game.

I really hate the MCC battle pass system because it throttles you so hard. If I want to grind, I want to grind.

It actually does the opposite. It’s an insane idea. After you finish your dailies, there is no reason to keep playing other than for fun, which is valid, but it will not feel like a rewarding system, and a lot of people will do their dailies and stop playing for the day.
the xp boosts were hilariously bad in the flight. timed 30 minutes dependent on challenge completion, so the optimal thing is to get multiple challenges close to completion without completing one by accident and completing them all while the boost is active. What a nightmare.

Yeah it’s a retarded setup they’ve got.
They need to bring back the level system from halo 3,I don’t know why they need to make it worse and confusing and just plain awful.
Considering there were x2 XP boosters and such, I’m sure it was supposed to have a normal XP system but because of x reason it “won’t be there at launch.”
