So, what's the deal with the AI in Skirmish Mode?

After playing against the CPU in a lot of matches, I’ve noticed that the tactics employed by the AI are very, very limited.
Let’s take the UNSC, for example: when you fight against them, you can notice that they never build barracks: this means it’s virtually impossible to face units like Helljumpers, Snipers and Cyclops. Also, for whatever reason, they never seem to build units like Warthogs and Hornets.
All they do is train Marines unites while in Tech 1, build some Kodiaks and Wolverines in Tech 2, and then after try to overwhelm you by spamming Scorpions, Vultures, and Nightingales once they reach Tech 3.
That’s all they do every single match, no matter what kind of army you build: they simply don’t react to what you’re doing, unlike the first game, where the AI was quite adaptable.
The same for the Banished, of course: I never fought Brute Jumpers, Hunters, Locusts, Banshees and so on. All I did was face the same combination of units every single game.

Am I just unlucky? Does the CPU employ other tactics that I somehow missed? Have you ever faced these units? I’ve searched on Internet to see if this was a common complaint, but I found nothing on this: all I saw was just people complaining on the harsh difficulty back when the game launched.

This was on Normal difficulty in Deatmatch, btw. But from what I saw while playing with AI allies set on Heroic difficulty on 3v3 battles, the CPU doesn’t seem to lock the use of certains units on lower difficulties, unless we are talking about Scarabs and Condors.

The AI does this on the lower difficulties to give new players some breathing room. Try to go for some Heroic/Legendary matches once this is too easy!

After a while even the Legendary AI can be beat fairly easily, it only seems to be able to concentrate forces properly in one area massively weakening it.

I hate banished AI. They make 6+ shrouds and 8+ engineers and then have no population of units that actually fight, just these annoying support units.

You are correct, thank you! I tried some matches on Heroic and the AI definitely uses the entire sandbox, barracks included, and its strategies are far mory varied. Not sure why I didn’t notice earlier with my previous tests on this difficulty!
I wish the CPU would use all the units even on Normal difficulty, though, since I’m not that good!

Hummm.
This morning I tried to find a 3v3, but I found no one in matchmaking (I live in France).
So I played a 3v3 skirmish (I and 2 normal AI against 3 legendary AI).

At the same time (around 10mn) 2 AI rushed me.
One (Atriox) full banshee
The other (Colony) with a mix of goliath and hunter.

These ai are hopeless every time I Click on the mini map they don’t even pay attention and every time I ask for supplies or power they don’t do that either in the original halo wars the air will help you out and give you supplies if you click on the supplies pad I wish 343 can do something about that for skirmish does any one have problems with that

Try legendary, you will start to see rushes and crazy shiets.

  • Does any know how to tell the ai how to give supplies to you - And for them to scout out for you too

You ping the location of their supply pad or location you want them to scout
EDIT - You can also ping an enemy base and your teammate will send their troops to attack them, also can do the same to your base to defend it
G on pc, Idk what it is on Xbox
