So whats the big deal going around about the supposed romance between Chief and Cortona? I won’t deny that their is something (not necessarily romantic)… but from what I saw in halo 4… people are really overreacting… I swear when I got the game I was scared to death they were going to say “I love you” and then hear wedding bells chime… as the game goes… (story wise) I think 343 did this all right… but… why the heck are people making such a big deal out of it?
(I post this because its a explosive (land mine style) topic in my group of friends… so… if no one on this forums is flaming about it… let this post die…)

Clarification: what I’m referring to is the “controversy” in halo 4 with people saying they took the romance to far.
It’s fairly straightforward. People want to see cortana and Chief eventually marry and take this already messed up relationship to the next level.
Beyond that, I sincerely hope it doesn’t get to that point, but hey, the future is not written in stone so…

I have to agree… I don’t mind the current “flirtatiousness” i suppose… but if it ever got romantic… it would really be WAY WAY to much…
I think the best word to describe John’s and Cortana’s relationship is “close”. It’s not love-love in the literal sense. Maybe Cortana “felt” something close to love by the end of Halo 4, but I don’t think their relationship is as some fans might see it as.
Taking into consideration how John was brought up, who Cortana was “born” from, how long they’ve been together, what they’ve been through both together and separately, and how they were together (Cortana being inside Chief’s head), and how they behave towards each other, it could be easy to mistake their closeness with love.
Without a doubt there is some strong affection shared between them. John’s psyche compared to that of a normal person, even in the Haloverse, probably made it easier to become strongly attached to Cortana. The Spartan-IIs were raised and trained and developed with a very strong sense of comradery. They were as close to a family as they could get after they were kidnapped for the program. I think that played a part in how Master Chief’s feelings and relationship developed with Cortana.
Factor in the Gravemind’s torture and rampancy, Cortana might have “felt” something very close to love by the end of Halo 4. Without a doubt Cortana is the more “human” emotionally of the pair, and given that we are able to see her face, her expressions are much more easily read (thanks to the breathtaking motion capture work).
Anyone who thought that there was ever a romance between Chief and Cortana is really not a Halo fan. They are very close and friends to the close, but not even close to love. Chief understands she is not a real human being, but rather a mind of one. When she is in pain, he is. Because once she was paired with him, he became the soldier we needed him to be.
