With use now two thirds of the way through the DLC list with another batch coming in April. What do you guys think will happen after Castle drops?
Will Halo 4 get anymore support in terms of extra content?
Will we be seeing more maps?
Possibly a Forge Pack?
Or worst case scenario, will we be getting a next Halo game at the end of the year?
For me I’d love to see more Map packs and Forge pack after April. The DLC so far has been pretty lackluster, but Majestic seems to have picked up the pace with FINALLY decent level design.
Plus I’m a massive fan of big open maps, I’d love to see a Forge World type map (yes yes, we all know about the framerate) or a remake pack.
What I reckon though, is that after Castle arrives, and all eyes will be on 343i and E3, I reckon we’ll get a tease/announcement for the Next Halo game, which could ultimately either hammer in the final nail in the tightly secure coffin, or could work in their favour if it were a new genre of gaming.
Basically put down what you’d like to see, and what you reckon we will be getting from Halo 4 and 343i.
So what do you reckon We’ll see after the Castle Map pack?
But Halo 2 Anniversary would come out next year, not 2013.
Let’s say that it does come out, we still have a year & 8 months till it would (if it were to mark the 10th anniversary). That is a hell of a lot of time for content not to be added to Halo 4, with the community already lighting their pitch forks, can you honestly say that people will still be playing it with no new content after Castle a year from now?
I would agree with everyone’s thoughts on the subject. I would either think we would see a re-release of Halo 2 with specific multiplayer maps from the original Halo 2 after the final map pack release or the second season of Spartan ops. I’m beginning to think. Why would they release Halo CEA and not re-release Halo 2. But we shall see what kind of announcement there will be at E3.
Halo 4 is probably going to die in the way of DLC maps after Castle. I don’t see 343 profiting enough from Halo 4 TBH. They need a restart with Halo 5. They need to realize that for people to truly have fun in a Halo game players must be separated. Competitive players need a ranked competitive experience. Not so competitive players need a social experience where they can relax and not have to worry about getting wrecked by full teams. With Halo 2 and Halo 3 I could play social/unranked games all day long without rage quitting once. In Reach and Halo 4 I constantly get matched up against full teams that just wreck me and my randoms. It’s like me using the BR and stickies just trying to have fun vs “Team MUST WIN” with their jetpacks and DMR’s. I can’t help but rage quit when I’m constantly getting matched up against people that shouldn’t even be in the same playlist. If ranked and social was present I’m sure I would be ton happier playing this game. I’m also sure competitive players would also be happy.
I have no problem with most of what is the core Halo 4 experience. I just have a problem with the fact that the game does little to nothing when it comes to separating relaxed players with extremely competitive players. For that I just kinda hope Halo 4 dies out quick and Halo 5 gives me the experiences that I want and comes out soon. If that means no more DLC for Halo 4 then that is fine with me. Honestly, I think 343 quietly knows that their is no real saving Halo 4. The game isn’t dead and Halo in general isn’t dead but Halo 4 is currently not doing oh so well. 343 needs to just come out of the gates strong with Halo 5. Hopefully sooner than later…
> 2013- No new Halo game
> 2014- Halo 2 Anniv.
> 2015- New Halo game

> I need a break from Halo and 2013 sounds like a good year to me. Give me a Vehicle DLC (add Hornet/Falcons -Yoink!-)
I liked how Ghost Recon Future Soldier DLCs added not just maps, bur game types, more rank progression and other things. Halo 4 DLC for weapon skins and vehicles would be nice!

I really hope they have cooked up a Halo 2 edition like CEA for this year. I know it’s not the tenth anniversary, but it doesn’t have to be an anniversary to get an HD remake. Those things are ubiquitous these days. I want it to be natively available on the same hardware as Halo 3 and CEA. (The performance of the original Xbox disc of Halo 2 is iffy on the 360)
We’ve been supremely spoiled as far as Halo game content goes over the last few years. We’ve nearly gotten a release of some sort a year since the release of Halo 3. It came out in 2007, Halo Wars and ODST in 2009, Reach in 2010, CEA and its hefty additions to Reach in 2011 and Halo 4 last year. I’ll feel a little deprived if I don’t get something this fall.
The spin-offs (for a lack of a better term) have been used to bolster the main title out at the time. ODST came with the full-on Halo 3 multiplayer experience and all the maps for anyone who’d refrained at that point. They packed the Reach remake maps in on the disc for CEA and allowed them to be acquired separately for Reach players who didnt purchase it. Considering this new content mixed with a pseudo-expansion pack kind of thing, I could see a Halo 2 remake done in a similar fashion with season two of Spartan Ops thrown in for the expansion portion. It would also be available for download separately through XBL. (A remake map pack wouldn’t suck either, though.)
In terms of a Halo 2 anniversary, I can see this happening (if it does at all) in 2014. My guess is this year we wont be saying much in the way of Halo, as 343 likely doesn’t have anything ready to go and Microsoft is focused on preparing the release of the next Xbox. Bungie maintained a 3-year development cycle for all main Halo games:
Halo -2001, 2 - 2004, 3 - 2007, Reach - 2010.
The only reason Reach and 4 were two years apart was it was a different studio, but even then 343 stated development for Halo 4 started as early as 2009, making it still 3 years. By that standard, I’d see Halo 5 in 2015 and Halo 6 in 2018.
It would feel a bit odd to not have a Halo game release this year but then again, we have been spoiled for the last 3 years so it wouldn’t surprise me that with the shift away from 360 we would hit a break (not that, again, that’s any surprise seeing as between Halo 1 and 2, and between 2 and 3 we didn’t see any Halo games for 3 years each. Its surprising though that people still have this idea that suddenly we’ll be seeing a main Halo game every 1 to 2 years now, ignoring the obvious facts that are present and neverminding the development history. Its worked for over 11 years now, so in that regard my hope is that Microsoft, and more importantly 343 don’t fix what isn’t broken.
Am I the only one who thinks h2 anniversary is a waste of everyone’s time, both for 343 and the player? HCEA was neat and the maps were good additions to Reach but c’mon, are we gonna have 10 year anniversaries from here on out? The H3 crowd will never grow up at that rate.
Next up: 1 or 2 map packs from CA unless 343 decides to sharpen their teeth on an ODST like extension of H4.
