So what happens to Halo 4’s new episodic experience if 343 deicides that Spartan Ops Season 2 isn’t worth the time? We’re already into the 6-10 chapters and each one’s mission is about on average holding around 400 players, while the more popular missions tend to hold steady around 1000+ come the normal evening or weekend influx after the initial Monday release.
By no means is this a population thread, because really I don’t have access to any hard data save what 343 is showing me while I’m deciding on a mission to join and I could be sitting in a Hopper for all I know. This is more a what if thread regarding the worst case scenario and what you think 343 could do if the laws of economics deicides Season 2’s episodes are non feasible?
Do they instead continue the CGI story and forgo the missions if Spartan Ops get’s pulled? I would suppose the first Season would be recycled or do they just shut the playlist down and it’s a PVP only playlists till someone makes some firefight maps or would that even happen?
What’s your take on what 343 might do to fill the void if Spartan Ops gets the FOX treatment?
I play Spartan Ops solo, and rarely online (if ever). I much enjoy the solo experience than the team one. Is there a way to find out if other people do the same thing? I don’t think the current online populations account for a whole lot.
I suppose if they did a second season it would not have any ties to the current story. Maybe if it solely followed our story as Crimson. I am interested to see where they are going to go with this. Like what are the hoppers going to look like? Are they just going to reuse the ones’ in current form, or will they mix up the most played?
I can’t see them not continuing it. It’s a key feature of Halo 4.
Taking it away would be like taking away Forge or Match Making. WHether or not its as popular as they predicted, they made a committment.
It would be awe-inspiring if they stripped a main component of the game, which some of us still enjoy.
However, if it does get the axe. I expect no less than for 343 to release a Firefight DLC, re-introducing FF in SpOps place. The DLC would ship with 3-5 maps, include online matchmaking and would be FREE OF CHARGE (as a form of apology).
@ the first response: I’ll play it solo every once in awhile but without the ability to customize I’m sorta looking elsewhere after maybe two or more runs. The payout is very low on solo run compared to playing with 3 other players. So grinders might find some real frustration due to how the missions are crawling with Ai due to being set up that way to challenge multiple users at once.
How many times can you run through Season 1 before it really begins to become boring would be the real question to us all if Season 2 is shelved?
If they only sell 1 copy, they are obliged to put out a full season for that person, or offer a full refund.
They arn’t idiots you know.
A lot of people host their own Spartan Ops games rather than going into matchmaking. I only started going into Matchmaking when Episode 7 was released because I released how much more XP you get for completing the game.
We all paid for season 1 only and that last massive download was the last of Season 1. That doesn’t mean they are obligated to make Season 2. It seems the consensus across the board regarding Spartan Ops is Season 2 will happen if it’s warranted.
Personally I hope they continue it for those who love it so.
I do hope they make season 2 I am enjoying it. However, I rarely play online. I usually play with friends (not via matchmaking) or solo by myself. Less lag and more enjoyable with friends than with strangers
The only thing that could possibly replace SPARTAN Ops is Firefight.
That would be the best scenario for a lot people would be the return of Firefight if Spartan Ops was cancelled. Now do we go back to Arcade or ODST?
Most would say ODST, but Arcade on it’s own was constantly filled, while god bless Limited, it was only slightly populated by the most hardcore ammo box humping firefighters ever. Booyeah my brothers and sisters! But I digress. Would ODST really pull the numbers 343 wants in an active playlist population?
Anyone see a different scenario that doesn’t involve firefight being returned? Because we all agree on that one being one of the best substitutes for a failed Spartan Ops.
It’s one of those what if questions. Those are always fun.
I like Spartan Ops…
The last episode felt like a campaign mission. They’re getting better as time goes by, so I hope there will be a season 2.
I play solo most of the time!
Feel the experience i better alone
Hopefully they give more attention to the Campaign if it dies.
Throw in some unique challenges that doesn’t merely involve skulls.
Fix some things (Reclaimer has a ton of bugs, Requiem’s weapon crates don’t spawn).
TU introduces scoring.
Extend it somehow. I.e. Co-op scaling
I’d like to see some Campaign DLC.

I have to concur. I like the new maps and the CQC has gotten better with the longer hallways and there are some really nice arena areas to combat the Ai thanks to 6-10. They’ve toned Palmer down and the banter’s a lot better over the inter-comm. The longer missions are feeling better.
Well I only play Spartan Ops with my brother, so I don’t bother going in Spartan Ops matchmaking. Most players probably do the same, playing it in custom rather than matchmaking, so it’s probably safe to say that many players are enjoying Spartan Ops.
That being said, they invested so much time, money and effort into Spartan Ops, it’s a great gamemode and there’s no reason for them to just make one season and call it quits. It will definitely continue, especially since the second half of the season is amazing so far.

Right there is not a bad substitute. a Four man Co-Op playlist in Campaign would be a nice filler for a missing Spartan Ops Season 2. I would miss my Sparbie, but I can live with it.

I don’t think they’ll not make Season 2, but how many seasons are we talking about before Halo 5. We might be facing this question again further along in the year.

That’s a good point, it all depends on how they’re planning to treat Spartan Ops. Will it be a series that will end once Halo 5 comes out? Or will Spartan Ops continue to thrive throughout the trilogy as one big story that evolves with the Chief’s?
I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable to see a Season come out per year, so that gives us 2 more seasons before Halo 5, maybe 3 if they decide to release one before Halo 5 in 2015 (though I doubt that). Keep in mind that the developers will soon enough start working on Halo 5’s campaign, so a lot of people will be busy during then.
In the end though, the Halo universe has a lot of stories to tell. Spartan Ops is a great way to tell those stories, and should definitely be a new thing that continues on for years to come.
Season 2 was canceled.
