So what happened to the Janus Key?

There was no mention of it in Halo 5. For whatever reason, Jul’ just let Halsey chase the signal across the galaxy without him knowing what it was. And what happened with the whole, “I want revenge” thing? Why was Halsey so obsessed with seeing John in both Spartan Ops and Halo 5? Why did it take John “long enough” to finally meet with her? Why are there so many plot holes? Will any of these question be answered in Halo 6, or have they already been answered in the books?

supposedly the janus key has already been accounted for in the books. There are no plot holes in halo 5 though. John is the most important Spartan to Halsey. It probably took so long because well Halsey was with Jul all this time

Yes there are massive plot holes and you are plain wrong.

A. The domain was said to be DESTROYED (not mostly damaged so can regenerate, DESTROYED) in the books. To do ANYTHING ELSE than that in the campeign would be to RETCONN the initial story.

B. Genesis was not mentioned in any of the THREE forunner books so is pretty safe to say they just frigging made it up as they went along.

C. Since when and how did the didact’s ship perform a slipspace jump when/after the nuke went off? Cortana warped chief and that was it. If she was transported to genesis (which I disregard for ABSOLUTLY NO mention in ANY of the forunner books) there would be no “her” because she was already heavily fragmented and would have thought herself to death when/before she got there.

I would be sorry to prove you SO wrong, but I’m not and you should actually open your eyes instead of believing all the lies they put in this campeign. I wish people would stop being such apologists (wanting it to be halo when it clearly isn’t and forgiving all discrepancies.) and actually question the bad at least.

What kind of argument is that? The Brutes weren’t mentioned in Halo CE, so I just disregard them. It’s clear Bungie just friggin made them up as they went along.

Same for the Prophets. I disregard those, too.
Crawlers? Watchers? Knights? Soldiers? Clearly just made up out of nowhere!

Miranda Keyes? CE didn’t mention Jacob had a daughter! Clearly made up as they went along.

What’s this Ark thing? No mention of that in CE!

Requiem??

Everything has to start somewhere. Not every Forerunner planet was listed in the Forerunner saga.

We shouldn’t have had to read a book just to figure out what happened with the Janus Key in Halo 5. A brief snippet would’ve sufficed for everyone else. Gods I can’t believe someone signed off on the campaign plot and not let everyone else know what was going on. It went way too deep into lore territory.

Ok, wow. Clearly I didn’t state that ALL of those things were stated in the earlier books except maybe requiem. So instead of using the well established lore from the books that IS cannon they decide to make up their own.

And I don’t see you dissagreeing with any of the other things I have said. Pretty true huh?

As much as I hate to admit halo 5 is flawed, I do love shutting down apologists and people who refuse to see the light in hopes that 343 will somehow listen and make a better game.

Exactly, I was wondering the same thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

The Janus Key arc hasn’t finished yet I do believe. The last comic for it comes out this month. As for everyone else in this thread… Campaign was dope. Fan and critic reviews be dammed for all I care.

THERE’S NOT ENOUGH CHEESE!!! I WANT MORE CHEESE THERE’S HARDLY ANY CHEESE WHERE’S THE CHEESE?!!? CHEF COOKS PLATE WITH MORE CHEESE AHHHHHHH TO MUCH CHEESE OMG WHY WOULD U DO THIS YOUR SO STUPID NO ONE CAN EAT THAT MUCH CHEESE!!!
cheese = halo 5
complainer about the cheese = this community

seriously seems like when a part of the community gets what they want they HAVE to find a way to bash 343…

I came here for the Janus key explanation and have yet to see it…

> A. The domain was said to be DESTROYED (not mostly damaged so can regenerate, DESTROYED) in the books. To do ANYTHING ELSE than that in the campeign would be to RETCONN the initial story.

Not really, because we don’t know exactly what the Domain is, and where it originates. The Domain was said to be destroyed in our galaxy, that doesn’t mean it was destroyed for good. The books allude to the fact that some Precursors went beyond our galaxy, and continued creation, elsewhere. You don’t think its remotely possible, that the domain can exist elsewhere, too? The Domain isn’t physical, so what if it rematerialised when there was sufficient life in the universe, to sustain it, once more?

In fact, Cortana notes that the terminals in Halo 4 are a localised version of the Domain trying to connect to the rest of it, but couldn’t as they are caught in a loop. Likely due to the destruction, or rather, fracturing of the Domain, as a whole, which is why the records within those terminals are slightly off, from the actual story. So, i think it very well is indeed possible that the domain managed to reconnect to our galaxy. How? We don’t know, but it did.

> B. Genesis was not mentioned in any of the THREE forunner books so is pretty safe to say they just frigging made it up as they went along.

Okay, let me show you something; the Bungie-era books made it clear that there are other Spartans that survived the battle of Reach way back in 2001. Yet, Bungie continued to push the idea that Master Chief was the last of his kind, and there were no other Spartans, besides him. Are you going to say that the books “just friggin made it up”, or as would be the sensible thing to do, are you going to accept that such a thing is part of developing and expanding the story, in every way they should? You know what else wasn’t mentioned in the books? Requiem. Halo 4 is the first time such a planet ever existed. The only reason its in Silentium (which released well after Halo 4), is to compliment Halo 4’s story.

> C. Since when and how did the didact’s ship perform a slipspace jump when/after the nuke went off? Cortana warped chief and that was it. While i agree, that this reasoning was incredibly lacklustre and forced, and i don’t condone Cortana returning in any way, even as a good guy, sadly i can’t say its out of the field of possibility. The Didact’s ship making an emergency slipspace jump, was mentioned by Catalog, over a year ago, on this very site. So we kind of new about it, before it even happened.

> I would be sorry to prove you SO wrong, but I’m not and you should actually open your eyes instead of believing all the lies they put in this campeign. I’d hate to burst your bubble, but you really ought to stop pretending that your views are objective fact when they really aren’t. It doesn’t make for a very mature impression. You screaming “RETCON!” on every new thing that pops up just because there was no mention of it in the books, doesn’t make it so, it just means that you’re not open-minded enough to accept that there can be other possibilities that may further the story in some way or another. The introduction of Genesis opens up a plethora of possibilities for the Domain and the Halo Universe alike.

> So instead of using the well established lore from the books that IS cannon they decide to make up their own.

“Canon” is whatever 343i chooses to be so, as it is their own story! Nothing is bound to the books definitively. The books only serve as context, for future plot devices.

There isn’t one yet. WE’re waiting on the next comic to come out.

It should have been in halo 5. Jul m’dama had 1 of the 2 parts. The other part is with the UNSC. If Osiris retrieved it then the UNSC should have both the parts.

Dude seriously I thought I was the only one who was pissed with so many plot holes I mean what was the purpose of spartan ops if they set aside all those aspects!? that just show how weak was the argument in this game, it really makes me angry

Read Halo Escalation.

one half was used to lock up the REAL halo story and its writers

the other was to unlock the monkeys that sat in front of typewtriters and banged out shakespeare but couldnt write a halo story at all

What are you doing in this thread!?

I be honest, I have just spent 50 GBP (Sterling) on a Halo game, which is supposed to continue on from the last one. I’m not going to go hunting for another 6 books or magazines that are overpriced or too hard to find at a normal bookstore. The Forerunner saga, never heard of it… Halo: Escalation, has the Janus Key and stuff VERY important to the end of Spartan Ops and co. Why didn’t Osiris retrieve it while “rescuing” Dr Halsey? Oh, right. If I want to know then I have to scrounge up another 50 GBP (Sterling) to fill myself in that story.
In my Opinion, these books kinda destroy the Halo games, because in Halo 3: ODST, we became acquainted with our FIRST Non-Spartan playable character that had so much potential, something to develop on, alongside the whole fire team. A view of a normal soldier, a silent one yes, but he was the regular Elite of the Marines. And guess what, he’s killed in a book that costs 8.99 GBP (Sterling). So I had no Idea why Buck would leave his ODST Turned Spartan fire team, to join Osiris until I read it up on Halo Wikia, with Halo: New Blood spoilers. He doesn’t even mention his team’s whereabouts for those like me that don’t have knowledge of the books.
