I’ve been playing some Quick Play casually. It is pretty boring still but even MCC is getting really stale. I think Halo is probably going through it’s worst content drought it’s ever experienced.
If you think about it, may be the weekly rewards aren’t that great intentionally in order to avoid players playing specifically for challenges, changing their style of play and creating this FOMO…if the reward is rubbish then 343i can’t be accused of these things. Unfortunately what they failed to realise is that gamers like to feel a sense of achievement and the weekly reward is the only thing in the game remaining for the majority of active players…they completely dropped the ball on this challenge system and it’s relevance has possibly become higher than intended.
The same thing I did all last week, play Elden Ring.
I’ve been streaming it on twitch for some friends if anyone wants to ever watch me grind.
I like hammers
Backlog time! Started Shadow of War
Back to Destiny 2! And I think I want to see The Batman this week. ![]()
Funny you should say this. I looked at the weekly reward and thought “Whelppp…guess I have time to pressure wash my house”.
So far so good. Most people are done talking about the campaign. The only “Spoiler” I saw is something called the Endless and people talking about campaign DLC like it is confirmed. I have no idea what the Endliss is and everything I see of it is so out of context that I’m just left like “What the heck happened in Halo Infinite?!”
No one tell me! I don’t want to know until we play!
If this is actually 343 line of thinking, then this game is hopeless. If their solution to FOMO is to make every unlockable so worthless that no one would even want to engage with their game… I’m blinded by their incompetence. Paralyzed. Dumbstruck even.
The solution to FOMO isn’t making the game suck. The solution is to not let players miss out. Always have opportunities for players to go back an earn things they missed. They need to give players long term goals. The BP can be completed in 100 days with minimal effort, but the average player (especially challenge seekers) will complete it in a month. After that, unless an event is active, there is nothing to play toward beyond playing for the sake of it, and I think that is really shallow. And we can’t even do that because, those of us who just want to have fun have to deal with challenge seekers quitting/throwing games in the name of challenges, and I don’t blame them.
that the wording of the question of this thread doesn’t start to make people think (the users not the developers) is really surprising to me.
you obviously view the challenges and in extension the game as work and not as “game” for recreational purpose. while i agree, that the challenge system is just work, why not ignore it altogether and just play the game? and if the game feels just like work, why not play another game (thats what i’m doing)? are you guys so addicted to the “reward” of cosmetics?
btw: the “it’s just cosmetics” excuse for MTs is now hopefully finally out of the window, bc obviously it’s not “just” cosmetics to people
The simple answer is down to the lack of content…the game is boring and stale due to there being no new maps or playlists. Variety is the spice of life…and there isn’t variety in Halo Infinite therefore it is dying on its -Yoink!-.
Challenges and rewards actually give players something to do, something to aim for, something to achieve…rather than just playing the same maps and game types over and over again ad nauseam with nothing other than meaningless KD and W/L ratio…and even Ranked is also meaningless and broken due to the issues with matchmaking, MMR/CRS and desync.
Let’s not forget the total lack of social integration in this game…if all of your friends have quit then Halo Infinite is a very lonely place. It’s not a naturally enjoyable experience for a lot of players, so challenges and rewards offer the only incentive to play this empty shell of a game particularly when the BP is completed and there aren’t any other ways to earn cosmetics or strive to improve.
The whole challenge system is pathetic at best and should never have been the foundation for any kind of progression system. How ridiculous is it that we can only progress our non existent Spartan career via challenges that reward XP that make us play and do things in a certain specific way that we wouldn’t otherwise be doing. The whole system is flawed.
This is why players are taking a week off or not compelled to play the game…simply because the challenge system is broken and despised, and the rewards on offer are rubbish; so there is no reason to play an empty shell of a game that lacks content and a true progression system. Quite frankly, the game designers and management should all be shown the door…it’s actually quite pathetic what they have delivered when all is said and done.
A week off? More like months off. In that case, I will do these:
- Playing Halo 5 and MCC regularly
- Playing Serious Sam Fusion
- Starting STAR WARS Jedi: The Fallen Order
- Doing household chores
Play Elden Ring
(A good game)
Fallen Order is a good one!
I’m surprised no one said watch the new halo series lol
I’m still banging out the weekly capstone challenge, but I’m not stressed over it. I just need the 2 stockpile wins for the final reward. Unfortunately my teammates thus far don’t seem interested in anything that has to do with the actual objective and would prefer to play Slayer regardless of the game type.
Have you tried BTB? That’s my go to for stockpile.
I think im going to watch breaking bad again, mixed with elden ring
Not play halo infintie? like ive been doing since November 23rd for MP and i believe Dec 18th for Campaign.
theres been alot better games grabbing my attention as of late, Particuallarly Destiny 2 The Witch Queen, and exspeccially Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, ive even been playing some more Warframe and ive been having heaps and loads of fun.
