Everyone is wondering why people are so upset about no ranks, and for this is about 80% of my anger. They said multiple times they’re working on something. Flat out lies are for EA smarten up 343i.

They’ve improved the trueskill ranking system. You know that thing that was represented visibly in Halo 2 and 3, you just can’t see it now. It’s like the air.

Invisible ranking system IS NOTHING. Its a default. It HAS TO EXIST on xbox live.
A competitive system is something for players to “COMPETE” for. A “matchmaking system” to get closer skilled players together is NOT a “competitive” system, its just an absolute bare minimum for an online game to exist. You cant have the new players or the bad players losing 50-0 every game. Everyone KNEW an inivisible rank would be there for matchmaking purposes. This is a give-in.
Something else was promised. If there IS something, 343 should speak up, now would be the time. But it looks like there is nothing. Which would mean Frankie was lying.

OT: Bungie claimed to have invisible ranking for Reach, but I still question whether or not is was actually there. I would like a visible rank in H4 just so I know 343 isn’t lying like Bungie most likely was.

That’s not the problem for most.
Long story short (I wrote like a novel on this but hit ‘cancel’ by accident) is that many don’t bother to try without it. It ruins the system for those of us trying and custom games are our only salvation.
We’re sad that they didn’t just make one ranked playlist with visible ranks (that would have no affect on those who avoided it).
That and the whole breaking of CTF with no option to fix it.

While im not 100% on this, i do believe that someone at 343 stated that the rank system will pair you up with similarly skilled players, its just an under-the-hood mechanic now, as opposed to Halo 3.

but it wont be based upon actual skill. there will be people that try or don’t try, that sit around eating cereal as the game progresses. this all affect that person true skill. but instead of having an invisible rank of lets say 45 where they belong, they have one of 25 because they dont always try or they screw around. so now you have a team of 4v4 with what the true skill system thinks is a fair match but in reality you have some actual skill players of 45 playing 25s. My point is without the incentive for all players to be trying, you cant gauge skill. its just going to be another reach where randomly skill players are matched up
Visible ranking systems is a staple for most of the popular games to be released lately. If you look at the success of games like starcraft and League of Legends the communities are based around this.
I want to thank 343i for fixing one aspect by matching people by same skill but the competitive aspect also comes in with the rankings. Personal I don’t like the 1-50 method previously used and would like the elo rating method for win/loss although if playlists were to be made like that I would suspect 4man teams would have to be given own playlist and only allow 1-2man teams in the other playlist
