Probably not the first to say “What is going on with the story?” with the recent GI making it’s rounds. Setting aside the bias I have regarding the story, what with me crafting my own script and reading all the books and information and trying to piece things together without the Halo Canon Bible, I’m doing my darnedest to process what I read in the newest Game Informer about the Covenant.
Let’s start off with the obvious, the Covenant. At first I didn’t believe the Covenant would return, but after that notion was confirmed, it didn’t seem so bad. After all we were told the Covenant would be much more different than what we had previously experienced. Now I haven’t played the game, which I have to do now, but from these first brief pieces of info, it sure doesn’t seem like they have changed. Sure the Elites are missing some armor and the Grunts are greener, but they seem the same. They are aliens and they want to kill you for the vaguest of reasons. I also have to wonder where the Dawn is if they managed to just coincidentally find the Dawn in the vast unknowns of space. I can see Cortana’s beacon coming into play, but space is infinite…this is a pretty big leap.
343 Industries are creators of the game and my opinions on the story don’t mean that much, but I think something a little better could’ve been done. I mean, there is still that “ancient evil” lurking around and Game Informer didn’t say it was the Forerunners. I honestly thought encountering some Covenant stranded on Requiem, the shield world Chief is going towards and not Sigma 7 and quite a few of your vehemently said was it’s actual name despite evidence to the contrary, and being forced to band together with them as allies against a more devious threat would’ve been a nifty twist.
That could very well happen, but so far, I doubt it. Is anyone else confused like me? I’m sure most people will be happy to kill an Elite, but storywise, I’m just a bit disappointed.
I think this is violating the forum rules…

The magazine went on sale today and all of my information comes from it.
What I don’t under stand is why there are covenant in single player but not multiplayer.
The only way I could see them not in multiplayer is because of the new cannon… but they said it wouldn’t affect gameplay so I don’t have any clue as to the logic behind that.
Anyways all I can say is that the story behind halo 4 in reguards to is going to be worse then the ending of Me3.

how?
They’re not going to tell us everything straight away. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Well multiplayer is some virtual training simulator for Spartan-IVs from what I gathered, so no Elites makes some sense. That said, it does kinda stink.

I thought it officially released the 9th or the 10th. The mods were banning allot of people earlier for posting about it.

Yes, I do now that. However at this time, I’m scratching my head trying to make sense of it. Just seems like the Covenant are just space pirates now.

What are we supposed to do on a forum if we cant discuss stuff?? I think the admin’s are overdoing it a bit.
Its sad that the first enemys we are fighting are a horde of grunts and an elite
this covenant fleet may have either already been there and cut off from the rest of the covenant and not known about the war ending, or that they picked up on the distress beacon. Or maybe It’s a new covenant that has been put together with a few elites leading the other species because they still believe, hence the reason they aren’t fitted as well as usual.

Yeah… but didn’t they say that the story behind it wasn’t going to affect gameplay?
I’m just disappointed that Elites aren’t in MM anymore. But I don’t keep up with “New Covenant” info as much as I should. I’ve seen the Elite, which looks OK IMO, haven’t seen the Grunt yet. And Covenant stranded on Requiem was what I was thinking of, too.
By the way, how’s your script going?
> Its sad that the first enemys we are fighting are a horde of grunts and an elite
I’d like to know why Elites and Grunts are still working together.

Pls get over it. No Elites in MP. It makes sense because of this story for the spartans4s and so on.
The covenant does not seem to be the covenant as we traditionally know it seems. Arent the elite split between restarting the war with humanity and keeping the peace by following the arbiters example?
Only elites and grunts being revealed makes me feel as if many of the other races have left the covenant permentely to go about their own concerns.
Gamewise I think the new look for the elites is fantastic. Graphics are very good.
I think it’ll be really interesting. Cortana said they weren’t wearing normal armor? And the Elites are hostile again? I wanna see where this story goes!

Yes, but it is still sad news.

That I don’t really buy because in one of the short stories, the Great Schism was transmitted to every fleet in the Covenant.

Then I guess that begs the obvious question of when did they form and where they got their stuff to be a sizable force to begin with. If Halo: Glasslands took place in a similar timeframe, I could see the answer pretty clearly, but it’s in 2553, Halo 4 is 2557.
