So.. this game is Call of Duty with Halo skins...?

Obviously I know this is a beta… but it’s clear this game is NOT Halo… This game is Call of Duty with Halo skins… Bunny hopping, quick slide, super low TTK… You don’t feel like you’re in a powered armor suit with a SHIELD at all (except for how high you can bunny hop). The plasma weapons felt super underpowered, except instead of buffing them, I wish all the OTHER weapons were nerfed and balanced around the plasma weapons instead. The plasma weapons felt slower paced, they require some skill to lead your target, and they essentially felt like the Halo I remember and was hoping for.

I cannot stress enough how disappointing it is to see every shooter (Battlefield, Halo, etc) feel like they need to copy COD’s quick, fast paced, meat-grinder gunplay and make the time to kill so quick. For starters, take frackin ‘slide’ out of the game. This feels frackin dumb in Halo. What’s next, wall-running? While you’re at it, take out quick weapon swap as well (well, it can stay, just increase the pistol’s swap time). Currently this game is about side-stepping left and right as fast as possible while emptying your Assault Rifle magazine into bunny hopping fools and attempting to dodge obscene levels of grenade spam, then instantaneously swapping to pistol to continue shooting without skipping a beat. This game is as twitch as it gets. Older Halo games were much slower paced and felt much better for it. You know, like you’re actually wearing a super advanced armored suit with a shield that actually helps you. If the shield regenerated faster or had more HP then it might balance out and feel OK; but how it is now you step out of cover and just a few bullets hit you and your shield is at 1/4 or broken and you have to sit and hide for 10 seconds until you’re fully recharged. NOT FUN.

I’m definitely an old school Halo player. Played the hell out of Halo 1-3 and Halo Reach. I stopped playing Halo after that so I can’t tell how Infinite compares to the newer Halo releases; but if they have this level of twitch gunplay then I definitely didn’t miss anything.

Seeing most people here praising the gunplay, I already know my opinion will not be popular. Am I the only one here who feels like this wasn’t Halo? Making a super fast-paced twitch FPS and slapping Halo skins on the front doesn’t make it a Halo game. Halo had a slower, deliberate feel to the gunplay that was refreshing from the twitch reflex 360 no-scope gunplay of COD and that’s completely gone now. The only thing I liked here was being able to sprint.

Graphically, it looks nice. It performs terrible but this is the one thing I’m sure they’ll optimize for release. It currently needs MAJOR work on optimization. Playing this game on max Ultra quality at 4k on a 3080 gets me ~50fps. So I turned graphics down to 1080p with ultra settings… I go up to 50-55 fps. What? A 5 FPS increase for running at 1/4 the resolution? I then turned EVERYTHING to lowest settings possible, and I was just barely able to get 55-59 fps and it was still NOT smooth at all. Again though, out of the entire test of the game, this is what I’m least concerned about; I’m sure they’ll improve the performance. It’s the rest of the ‘feel’ of the game that is most concerning. This game feels nothing like Halo. Maybe playing it on console would feel more like old-school Halo? But damn on PC this feels like a twitch fest. Thank god I have Microsoft Game Pass because I would never buy this game.

TLDR; The plasma rifle and pistol aren’t underpowered, the other weapons are just incredibly overpowered. The TTK and pacing of the plasma weapons feel like how Halo was meant to be played. Make the rest of the game match those weapons and it’ll be in a good spot.

Were we playing the same game? This plays nothing like COD. The optimal TTK for the BR is exactly the same as H3 BR at 1.55s. Bunny Hopping and crouch strafing has always been a halo thing
.

The plasma weapons are insanely strong at closer ranges and combined with human weapons are ridiculously deadly. They’ve always been about taking shields rather than outright killing otherwise they would just be re-skinned human weapons.

The TTK in this game feels great - I’m a Halo 3 kid with 1,000s upon 1,000s of games to my name.

Halo 3 was just a bunch of people jumping around and spamming grenades everywhere or taking you down in 1.20 seconds with an inconsistent BR.

This is exactly how this Infinite Flight is playing

No, it’s Halo 3 Evolved. Besides sprint, clamber, and sliding (which are really tame, btw), most of those strats were used in Halo 3. The TTK is a lot longer than CoD’s as well.

this game is NOT Halo… This game is Call of Duty with Halo skins

I stopped reading at this point

OP I think you’re definitely in the minority here, it’s okay to have your own opinions of course but I’m going to have to disagree.

This is the best Halo has felt in a long time.
The BR is literally the same as the Halo 3 BR just with hitscan instead of projectiles.

Guns feel good. Movement feels good. This is a very happy medium between old era of Halo and the new era of Halo.
I really can’t fault the gameplay here.

Plus it’s nowhere like “fast paced” you’re like 2% or MAXIMUM 4% faster than in Halo 3, which isn’t fast paced at all. Splitgate feels faster than Halo Infinite at the moment.

If this game looked like Halo 5: This is a CoD, the Fortnite generation has invaded Halo.

If this game looked like Halo 3: This is a CoD

If this game looked like Halo 3 and Halo 5: This is a CoD, 343 has failed again trying to give us what is fashionable.

I am very tired of this nonsense.

I felt it was halo 4 and 5 mixed. So stripped a bit back. I don’t like the set colour wheels for sparten armour. And the battle pass looks exactually like cod. But hopefully 343 are listening to the positive and negative feedback so we all get a game we enjoy.

I don’t want it to be have to pay extra to have the full freedom of online. But its gonna be free anyway, that I feel that’s a good and bad thing.

But yeah, h3 there was a lot of bunny hopping, natural thing for a halo game though.

some one never played amplified

you played halo 4 right?..that was much much more liek cod

Strafe crouching has been around since before Halo 3. I haven’t really seen the slide come into play, I never really used it and I never saw an enemy use it.

TTK is around Halo 3’s. Maybe you were experiencing getting team shotted, and felt as though TTK was too fast?

You didn’t play it.

“Bunny Hopping” is most definitely not a COD tactic and most definitely a staple Halo tactic. I have been hopping like this since Halo: CE in 2001. This game has been the most natural Halo game I have played since Halo 3. I really enjoyed the Tech Preview.

I have decided to read the entire text out of respect. And I definitely reaffirm my opinion that this does not make any sense and you do not know what you are talking about.

is there a datasheet with the TTK of the beta?

Funny thing is none of these guys have ever played CoD

To each their own in terms of how it plays and whether they like it. But are you trying to imply that without a suit of power armor and shield you could stand next to a grenade or get shot with 15 assault rifle rounds and just be fine?
