so Is it me or after their brief introduction in Halo’s lil Halo channel series have these guys been forgotten? I’ve not seen any more lore on them no description of their home planet or tech level as a covenant fringe species etc they aren’t even listed on the species page here on Waypoint. Did 343 hear the many moans of the community about hap hazard ply introducing a living race never before seen in the Hal-verse or are they just slow at adding them to the species list and giving us lore in them?

It was stupid of 343i to even add them. They have never been mentioned before and are too Star Trek like to even be in a Halo game. Personally, I hope they are forgotten.
They’ve been seen from a distance in one or two of the escalation comics I believe.

Those came out shortly before nightall.
That’s said it’s odd the universe section doesn’t lost them. They used to be there.
But they’re so minor and shoehorned in that I wouldn’t doubt they’ve been forgotten
Hopefully they were exterminated.
Cortana mentions them by name in Halo 5. They still exist.

I kind of like the thought of a few species under the Covenant being unkown to Humanity. It reminds me of how little knowledge the UNSC had about Covenant society, etc. during the war that it would be interesting to see the Yohnet be shown a little more. But it may be better to give them an official introduction in the form of even a chapter in a book. Remember how the Brutes and Yan’me were shown in Halo 2? They had a better introduction because of the books before that, having a form of introduction for the species before putting them into the games.

Knowing 343i’s track record, forgotten in their rush to shove Osiris down our throats to make us like them and make Cortana’s tragic death in Halo 4 void while also turning her into Skynet 2.0.

Then you clearly do not know their track record if you think that, what you mentioned is just the grumblings of people on the forum.

Ah yes, that’s why 343i didn’t do a complete 180 on the plot they had going since Halo 4 and wasted four years of development.
Oh wait…
Yahnet? What’s a Yahnet? Is that the real name for drones? Sorry, I don’t know the names of the aliens in the Covenant that well.

No, the Drones are the Yanme’e. The Yonhet are a newer species. They were conquered by the Covenant but they didn’t offer them anything significant so they weren’t incorporated into the military. There are apparently plenty of alien species that were part of the Covenant and we just haven’t seen them because they weren’t part of the main fighting force.
I really hope that future depictions on the Yonhet treat the species with justice and justify their place in the fictions. As of right now the Yonhet feel out of place and felt more as an excuse to not waste money on more CGI (whether or not that actually is the case is another question). Their is potential for the species but as of right now they are an unnecessary addition to the universe.
On that note, I really hope that 343 don’t become introduce too many new species into the fold anytime soon as there is still a great amount of potential already present with the already existing species in the universe, and the main issue here is how little attention 343 has payed towards those many alien species in favour of fleshing out the Sangheili, Forerunners and Humanity. While the Sangheili and Forerunners are interesting species, they shouldn’t be fleshed out at the expense of a lack of exploration on the other species in the galaxy, especially the Jiralhanae and Yanme’e.

No it’s my mistake I misspelled the name as I haven’t really seen or read about them lore wise.
There are a lot of Covenant species that we don’t know about.
I like the direction 343 is going with Halo.
20 or 30 years from now and Halo could evolve into something more akin to Star Wars.
I’m not sure how I feel about that but it’s still exiting.

Oh, thanks for explaining!

For sure Halo’s growth is exciting, but I personally do not want to see it develop into something like Star Wars… It is very much different and unique to me, and whilst that may be due to my limited exposure to the Star Wars fiction I believe what it is now, and what it has is enough to put off expanding into all these fringe races that we just don’t need. Halo could do with more Precursor in my opinion, and elaborating on their place in the fiction, because the Forerunner trilogy opened so many opportunities. Halo can survive without the need to introduce races simply to add to the fact it’s a galactic sci fi.

To me halo is my star wars Halo is certainly a big enough universe to sustain new species. Humanity has barely explored the Orion Arm. Axl was interesting to me his change in personality’s almost seemed like he had some sort of bipolar disorder.

Rethinking it, certainly, Halo, come to think of it is my Star wars. I guess i took the comparison too literally, I just want Halo to stay as Halo and not turn into something thats extremely diluted from it’s roots. Of course new species could be incorporated, I guess the execution of the Yahnet just put me off of the idea. The design seemed too, I guess as someone else stated Star Trek like. With the current lineup of species in the universe they’re all unique, and feel alien, the Yahnet just didn’t feel completely necessary I suppose. But I retract that last comment expansion is always great. but damn do I want more on the Precursors, that Forerunner trilogy was amazing.
