After everything I heard we will only have the ranking system for the battle pass, right?
Watching at that makes me really sad. I totally hate the soulless numbers from Halo 5 and from Halo 4, but at least Halo 4 ranks still had the specifications.
I loved it in Reach and Halo 3 when I started with none-rank, especially I enjoyed the rank names from Halo 3. That system mixtured with the individual playstile reward system from Reach would be the best system to show the players their own progress.
Since we seem to miss those stuff when the game releases and from all those overwhelming sadly bad news about the game itself and those behind it, I don’t expect that we will become an total awesome rank system in the future soon [speaking of 6 months ~ 1 year. I know that sounds bad but I’m already lowering my expectations from the game so that I can’t get hurt that hard when the game is released].
But let’s discuss about some really good ideas of fixing the ranking system, for the Skill-based playlists and the overall-progress.

The general progressWhy is the general progress so important to see?
-
Simply because it’s a really nice feature to see how far you’ve climbed the military ranks. Moreover it’s important, that those experience is not disturbed by soulless numbers from Halo 5 like Spartan Rank 1 to 152, which is just lame. Look at the ranks I already mentioned from Halo 3 and Reach. Real life military ranks. Promote the people to a private, a corporal, a sergeant and an captain, major, commander, general.
That is the stuff that players want. That is, what a military-sci-fi shooter like Halo lacks in since Halo 4 [and when Reach ranks went up to space with everything after field marshall]. It’s also important to make emblems from that rank which look more like the real thing and not plastic polluted.
The general Rank of progress should be always visible in a costume and social-playlist lobby, not in Ranked Matches. Still the general rank of progress should be always be visible in the record which every other player should see if he inspects your career.
I also really liked the last rank of the ranks Lieutnant to General because it wasn’t just “Commander Grade 3” it was “Strike Commander”. That just felt so awesome.
Here is an example of the Halo 3 ranks;
Halo 3 Ranks
To give the people more ranks, we could handle it like the MCC does, with iron, bronze, silver, gold etc symbols.
BUT: I know some people wouldn’t like to hear it, I would preffer a kind of “Prestige” System.
Whenever a player reachs the “5-Star-General” rank he should be able to reset his rank, getting rewarded with some BattlePass-Points [if it works like MCC].
Also the future symbols of his rank will have an iron background, followed by bronze, silver, gold, platin and diamond. So that a player is able to get 6-Prestige levels.
Also whenever Prestige is activated, the player will need more % more EXP for the next rank compared to the previous rank like
- Major [Standard, no prestige] 100EXP needed - Major [Iron Prestige] 120EXP needed - Major [Bronze Prestige] 150EXP needed - Major [Silver Prestige] 210EXP needed - Major [Gold Prestige] 300EXP needed - Major [Platin Prestige] 400EXP needed - Major [Diamond Prestige] 500EXP needed - Major [Onxy Prestige] 1.000EXP neededThis system could also work for the game when it’s really a life-service for many, many years. The EXP are of course just an example, i don’t want an EXP system like that from Halo 3, but I would preffer an system from Reach. And yes, Onyx will make you grind lol.
2. The Ranking playlists
Ranking playlists need way less description. Personally I would like to have the Bronze to Diamond System removed entirely and have the military ranks there instead.
3.GamePass progress
In the current situation it seems that the only way to get real progress through the BattlePass seems to be the challenges. I’m a fan of dayli and weekly challenges which HELP to achieve a higher GamePass level NOT to be the only way to make progress.
Like when I’m forced to make Sniper Kills or headshots with an sniper rifle and I’m just worse with it, I’ll stuck behind the others. Of course we can say now that there are maybe other challenges but it’s still a huge mistake in my opinion.
The challenges should be only there to HELP not to be an FORCED way to make progress.
I have concerns, that -Yoink!- and 343 are looking for a way to sell BattlePass levels, selling more Double EXP boosts. It’s one thing with those Double EXP boosts when you can level your in-general progress and the BattlePass level when you activate it - but as it seems now it’s totally worst that we are forced to nearly finish much challenges as possible but not finishing them to activate an Boost to get the most out of it. And that is something which is in my eyes and absolutely no-go.
The solution would be as I already mentioned, that Battle-Pass levels should be reached by simply playing and challenges and not just by last one. It’s one thing if I have to 5 games to compensate one challenge but a totally different thing if my effort is worthless because we don’t seem to have an general-progress rank at release. And tbh the “we will add it later” politic of 343 is just making me “Oh okay, then I will buy the game itself when it’s fully released with all the content which is needed. If I play campaign than just by gamepass but I will not show you my money directly because of that “work””.
4. Longterm recommendations
So here we are, my last point: Recommendations for the longterm/long-run.
Whoever played Reach [not MCC] will remember the recommendations. You had to play a lot of time, had to do a lot of different things to get those extra Credits[EXP]. Or some cool armor.
I would love to see them return in Infinite.
They could reward us, depending on which level they are, with EP and BattlePass points to spend on BattlePass.
Those tasks could be everything from playlists/gametypes played to enemies killed and weapon kills like
- 1 [Iron] Kill 100 enemies / Play 10 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection - 2. [Bronze] Kill 500 enemies / Play 50 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection - 3. Kill 1.000 enemies / Play 100 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection[/li] - 4. Kill 5.000 enemies / Play 500 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection[/li] 1. 5 [Platin] Kill 10.000 enemies / Play 1.000 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection 1. 6. [Diamond] Kill 25.000 enemies / Play 2.500 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection 1. 7. [Onyx] Kill 100.000 enemies / Play 5.000 rounds of Slayer/CTF/Bomb/BTB/Infection[/list]Those long-term tasks can and should have nearly “impossible tasks” tasks, where you have to grind for but tasks, which will keep you up during the generel duration of Halo Infinite. There are so many variations that could take place in this whole system.
Thoughts?
