So the game is back to being boring...

Assault rifle and pistol starts made it fun. It meant you actually had to go and find the precision weapons. I was looking forward to trying it on EU servers rather than the latency riddled US ones. Instead I now have the dull grinding monotony of battle rifle starts with all the fun that comes with them like getting shot right off the spawn and performing the same repetitive strafe and shoot routine with every single fight.

Assault rifle and pistol are a great combination as between them you are covering both range and close up and have to make a choice. Battle rifle just excels everywhere. If you spawn with a BR every other weapon on the map becomes more or less obsolete and you might as well have a wad of suspiciously wet tissue for a side arm.

True, spawning with a br is basically spawning with a power weapon. Yes the br is a power weapon.

I prefer starting with a weapon I can defend myself with from the get go. A competitive game should be about who has more precision aim… Not who can get to the good weapons first and pick people off.

I’m in agreement here. My K/D ratio is higher with Battle Rifle starts, however, it does take something away from the game. On Eden I see the DMR and Light Rifle lying there completely untouched most of the time b/c everyone already has a BR.

On larger maps (i.e. Coagulation) BR or DMR starts are a must, however, on these 4v4 maps, I think the A/R and Pistol starts are more fun.

Playing on Truth I went for the DMR right away but since sitting in a window and wasting all your ammo firing at the opposite number on their team as he does the same is fairly pointless I didn’t try and ‘pick people off’, I would move with the rest of the team. If everyone spawned with a Battle Rifle on that map everyone would just sit in the base firing across the map at each other right from the start.

Pistol gives you enough range to defeat a BR/DMR if you are smart with it, as does getting the drop on them with the Assault Rifle. However if you just go and spawn with the best weapon straight away it makes the gameplay repetitive and means there isn’t really much point in moving around the map.

Yeah I agree, on these small/congested maps br starts just aren’t fun. There is like no weapon variety.

That would make sense if you were still playing Halo 2 or Halo 3. In Halo 5 however every weapon has equal chances, its truly balanced.

Yeah absolutely a must on big maps. I do prefer playing with an assault rifle in general but on large maps like Coagulation it is laughable.

There have been quite a lot of posts on here about the kill time being too quick but with the Battle Rifle starts it is even quicker. Abilities don’t seem so useful anymore and you lose the tactical decision of dealing with an opponent differently based on what weapon they have - because it is always a battle rifle. I know I am biased but it does take quite a bit away from the game.

If the pistol was a 3 shot kill with the range it has now with less firing speed… I may be OK with that.

All these cry baby titty mouthz!!

BR=MLG
BR=Competitive Halo

If you dont like the BR start then that says some very clear things about your self and halo.

It means you cant snipe, you cant no-scope, you cant strafe, you cant aim, you never had a 50 on halo 2 or 3, your kd was below a 2.0 in halo 4. You cant hold map control, you probably play COD or BF way to much, you probably dont use a mic, you’re a teenager. You dont like competition, you dont know who snipe down or neighbor are. And it means you blow at halo.

Basically if you dont like br start then you’re then generation of kids and the kind of people that are ruining halo. So go play a different game.

I think both AR starts and BR starts both have there merits.

I prefer AR starts because it feels more like a chess game, as teams fight back and forth for control of weapon spawns, and it often comes down to having and using the right tool for the task at hand…

BR starts feel more like a checkers game: weapon spawns mean less, ammo is more plentiful, and it comes down to who’s the better shot instead of who’s the better strategist.

It’s going to come down to personal preference. I just hope that team slayer and team objective playlists have a healthy (AR start skewed) mix of both.

It doesn’t mean any of those things. Map Control isn’t exclusive to BR starts. Map Control, Being able to snipe, no scope, hip fire etc are still important with AR starts, if not more so. With AR starts, controlling weapons spawns becomes even more important so you can guarantee weapon pickups for your teammates while denying them from the other teams.

With BR starts, weapon spawns hardly matter.

Why leave out Halo 1? <div></div><div>And no… It is not balanced… You don’t make a competitive game balanced skill wise by “balancing” weapons… You need to make sure the skill gap is large, meaning making the game require more skill… Now with pray and spray weapons being so powerful moons have an even greater chance at getting kids… However, they’d enjoy the game just as much if they were spraying with people their skill level… They’d only complain when dominated by people who are good. </div>

I’m all for moons having kids, but being a filthy casual, I hate BR starts.

I’m a casual too… But prefer competitiveness in precision. I’m also all for separate playlists so more people can play what they want.

Gotta say I’m actually inclined to agree.

The gameplay feels a lot less dynamic now. Also I really don’t like the new midship remake… I was expecting a new map not some rehash half asssed one. I wish they allowed the breakout maps for Slayer

So only pros are allowed to play Halo? That’s an odd statement.

Yes, I’m new to Halo. I thought Halo MCC would be a nice place to start as newcomer to the series.
No, I’ve never played a COD or BF.

But apparantly I’m not allowed to play Halo because I’m not good at it. Okay.

The BR isn’t a power weapon. It requires precision and skill to utilize it, and it isn’t instant kill like the sniper. A single person with a BR can’t take over a game against equal competition like someone with a sniper or rockets can. I don’t mind if there’s two playlists in the game and one has AR and the other has BR starts. But at a competitive balanced level, which is what they are going for with an esports push, it is needed to have BR starts. You can’t start with a weapon that requires very little skill to use like an AR. In an Esports/MLG level automatic weapons shouldn’t exist in that game mode. Obviously not every game modes needs to be like this

With AR starts, there’s competitiveness in precision AND in strategy. Getting and controlling precision weapons is key. SO There’s an element of being a good shot, as well as an element of situational awareness and understanding when and where to use each weapon…

The latter is lost with BR starts, because just about everyone is using the exact same weapon at all times.

This. Save the BR starts for hardcore playlists. And make any hardcore playlist super limited and temporary.
