I like how in less than 2:00 minutes, the Community Cartographers video showed exactly why the two changes that 343 are so proud of to CTF - Auto-Flag Pickup and No Flag Dropping - are terrible ideas and hurt the gametype.
I’m sure that Red would love to pick up the Flag with no choice right now, while he trying to return his flag. The Flagnum will definitely be more than enough right now, right? (He steps right on top of it at least twice after killing the Blue)
“Hey, I guess in order to delay the cap, I should take the Blue Flag and throw it out of their base so that they can’t cap while I try to return our Flag. Oh wait…I can’t drop the flag for some reason.” (Oh, and no Flag at home to score, and another brilliant idea. Not even CoD thinks this is a good idea.)
“I’ll intercept them in their base and stop the flag carri-crap I mistakenly backed over the flag and picked it up - now I’m dead.”
I’m sure that Blue really would’ve benefited from not being able to drop the Flag and use a better weapon to defend himself, particularly if there was more than one Red.
Seriously, 2 minutes of a 7.5 minute video just goes and shows why 343’s changes to CTF are just plain stupid. There is no way to defend anything other than the “Move at Full Speed” as an intelligent, good-for-gameplay change.
All these anit-new flag system people only address the faults of the new system instead of look at what it’s achieving. Whoever posted that was just as bias as the next one. haha. Whatever I’ll be having fun playing CTF while everyone else complains about it:)

I’ve actually play tested the gametype on Reach with an honour rules variant of Speedflag. But main point: please don’t make assumptions and attack me for views I may or may not have. Here is a link to a thread I made discussing the new CTF gametype.

Ok, so you’ve tried it, is “Not being able to drop the flag” the only thing you can see? Can you only see the bad?

Actually the gametype does play faster paced, there is a greater emphasis on out Slaying opponents in order to cap a flag and it reduces the need to turtle defend the flag freeing up defenders to support mid field gun fights but the no flag dropping feature did seem to detract from gameplay.
> Am I the only one that thinks the maps they select are utterly awful.
Specifically Exile or all in general? Because I like the look of Exile… Warthog flag runs do look far too easy though. Flag position may need to be moved.
People keep saying “Halo needs to change”, “You just need to accept these changes”, “343 knows what they’re doing for Halo”.
But you know what? If you were just to take an individual little piece of what they’ve changed for Halo 4, then yeah, I might agree. But when you take everything as a whole - all the changes, all the design modifications, all the little things - I can’t help but feel that 343 doesn’t want to make a Halo game. They want to make a sci-fi, space marine FPS game, but they’re stuck working within the framework of Halo, so they’ve tried to force as much change as they can without pushing us too far.
If you don’t believe me, apply the kind of changes they’ve made to Halo 4 to another series, like Battlefield, Rainbow Six or Counter-Strike Source/GO. If DICE or Ubisoft or ValvE tried to make these kinds of changes to those franchise - changing the designs of established characters, character assassination (Halsey), massive change to basic gameplay principles, refusing to listen or change the most hated aspects of the previous game (Loadouts, Armor Abilites) etc., those developers would be massacred; I’d be surprised if they weren’t literally stoned to death by gamers for being so insane.
But here we are, just sitting here taking this. We’re letting 343i get away with murder - they’ve literally taken the core tenet of Halo - everyone is perfectly equal at the beginning of the game, regardless of time or skill - and had executed in the town square. (Though Bungie did rough it up a bit in Halo: Reach) They’ve molested a core gametype (CTF) and people are defending them.
But nope. I’m just a naysayer, whose too blind to see the future. I’m just the naysayer who still believes in sticking to a series’s guns and not trying to fix what isn’t broken, and trying to sell your series on its own strengths, not changing it a blatant attempt to court a crowd is going to forget the game the moment the next CoD game pops up.

This I don’t get. Most CTF modes don’t require you to have your flag at the base in order to score.
> - “I’ll intercept them in their base and stop the flag carri-crap I mistakenly backed over the flag and picked it up - now I’m dead.”
Considering there’s a large indicator for the flag on your HUD at all times, this is just bad situational awareness.
Honestly the only change to CTF is see as problematic is the auto pick, but again, there’s a giant indicator on your HUD. In Gears of War’s variation of CTF (Capture the Leader/meatflag) you cannot drop the flag, and you can defend with your pistol, not dissimilar from Halo 4’s CTF. Even with these, the game is highly tactical and requires team work in order succeed.

CoD does.
Gears 3 requires your leader to not be held hostage.

Ok, but did it feel like not being able to drop the flag was slowing people down? Did it cause the game to feel limited?
In your words you did say
> Actually the gametype does play faster paced, there is a greater emphasis on out Slaying opponents in order to cap a flag and it reduces the need to turtle defend the flag freeing up defenders to support mid field gun fights
Do you really think that having the ability to drop the flag would of had the same results?
And lets focus on the “sticky flag” feature, and lets look at it’s pros and cons.
+Forces people to move quickly back to base
+Can’t turtle the flag
+Can’t flag juggle
-can’t drop the flag

Since at least Halo 3, the flag was not required to be “home” to score in most default CTF games. It makes the game more fast-paced and encourages movement.
Gears can get away with it because there is no capture zone for the leader. I can’t comment on COD as I’ve never played their version of CTF, and I haven’t played TF2 in a while.
And honestly, it’s likely there will be an option to turn on and off “flag at home to capture” for customs. If there is a large enough outcry, 343 will make the option default in matchmaking.
