So after reading about what is going to be nerfed and buffed I noticed that the AR and SMG are now going to be non-useable in MP. This means the BR will be the go to gun once again making it the OP weapon. During the Beta the AR and SMG played perfectly and in my eyes and many of my friends who played it said they felt as if for the first time in a halo game that they were set up to be used as they are suppose to be CQC and deadly. Shredding shields and getting quick kills, Guess what it will now take a full clip of ether gun to even get one simple kill. This isn’t Halo 3! The AR in H3 was so not a factor It felt like it was a pee-shooter.
343 should keep them as they were not nerf them because the compective community does not want to be getting out gunned and destroyed by players who are not using the BR for once. This makes me very angry and seems 343 does not care about it.
They only care to support the MLG players who LEFT the series TWICE! How is that fair? How is that fair to people who have stayed and supported this series through think and thin?
I honestly believe just because they nerfed it does not mean it is useless, and the AR and SMG will still be superior most of the time in close-semi-mid range combat. I also agree that the BR should not be the most powerful weapon, nor should any one weapon. They should all be balanced.

Issue is from reports from people I know who played the game at e3 and others the AR and SMG take nearly the full clip to even half the shield and by the time its down you have to melee to get the kill and by then your easy pickings for someone else.

I truly hope it is not like that, and I’d like a source to this but I am wondering if you even have a reputable one. I would really hate for it to be like that, however we have no idea until we play it for ourselves or see clear gameplay footage of it.
again the minority that screams to make it seem its bigger then what it is gets what they wanted.

Just heard it from people who played warzone at E3 and they said they notice it really quick and they just dropped the gun for a pistol or carbine. They said it feels the the H3 AR.

A full magazine? I very much doubt that these people where using it at it’s intended range

The AR and SMG in the beta felt right. Perfect kill time at close range and were pretty bad at med to long range even in smart scope.
The only thing that has changed is that the headshots were reduced so auto battles don’t devolve into the battle of who has the better luck with the RNG and the smart scope doesn’t make it easy an easy full-auto spray at close-mid.
As long as you use them properly within their intended niches they will be fine. Don’t judge the auto weapons like the AR/SMG based on gameplay involving mostly press who were spraying full auto at mid-long range against precision weapons on the largest maps in Halo history.
Of course precision weapons are going to be the dominant weapons on large multiplayer modes, the problem with AR and friends in past games like Halo 3 is that they were bad within their own niche. The AR and SMG in the Beta were great within their niche and reliably beat BRs in close range combat so I can’t say I particularly care that they lost some of their frankly silly ranged capabilities since I will be making good use of them in their niche.

They nerfed its damage at close range. Hence why I made this thread. Its very annoying that comp crowd is heard but we are forgotten. The AR takes alot of skill not just spray and pray.
I don’t know one of the Warzone vids I saw the AR seemed pretty decent. The problem is most of the bozos that played it at E3 didn’t know how to use it right, there was no trigger discipline or skill, just mashing the trigger and spray and pray. Sure you can do that and you may get a kill…but to use the AR right you have to learn to burst or pulse the trigger at range, control the recoil especially when zooming, and more.
Press bums are probably too used to training wheel guns where you just pull the trigger once, have three rounds out at a near pin point with no recoil and not have to worry about difficulty. Couldn’t cope with a gun that doesn’t hold your hand.
If they truly nerfed the damage at close range I can sort of understand the reasoning, the SMG is your go to close range automatic.

Do you have any links that show anyone from 343 stating the damage of either of those weapons were nerfed? Or is that just speculation on your part? Because the Pistol also got a rate of fire nerf and other are saying the BR did as well(only the pistol change was confirmed). So its not as if auto weapons are the only one getting changes.
the only nerf that the AR and SMG need was the removal of headshot bonus, they need to stop nerfing all these guns. THey nerfed the AR and SMG too much and they slowed the rate of fire for the magnum

The AR has received an additional 4 rounds in the magazine, so it’s probably traded it for reduced damage. That being said, It’s far to early for us to complain about weapon balance
The only problems imo were that the AR had too long of range and had headshot bonuses. The SMG was perfect as a light power weapon.
I don’t think the AR and SMG are being nerfed to the degree you believe they are. I think their damage is the same, but there is no longer a headshot multiplier for them(because full-auto bullet spread is random, thus making headshots all about luck) and the SMG’s smart scope spread may be a little bigger so it’s not a literal bullet hose. I noticed in the Warzone gameplay that the AR now has reticle bloom animated while in smart scope, and the screen does not shake quite as much, if at all, from the gun recoil. The AR also gets a magazine size boost, so overall I think they will be more balanced than they have been in the past. The fact that they have smart scope makes them 10 times more useful.
