I’m curious to see what these technical previews for the game are, the term technical preview is nearly interchangeable with flight, beta, stress test and so on. Since they haven’t used the term beta, it seems to indicate maybe (very maybe) that we may get a small (and I mean small) chunk of the ring to test out. Maybe something like the original gameplay trailer location? Of course, more than likely it’s just going to be a multiplayer beta and they are simply using a different term for it so who knows, but what do you think is this going to be simply a multiplayer beta with a different name, or are we going to get maybe a little more?
P.S. let us in the flights please :).
It’s almost definitely only going to be testing multiplayer. Anything else they can test in house.
It might be called a technical preview as the systems and servers that will be in place for Infinite are totally new as well as the engine the game runs on. The only things I can think of that they’d be testing would be server side stuff like stress testing, and general stability, as well as bug hunting, and gameplay balancing.
I’d love a Forge beta, but there’s no reason that they’d need to do one.
I think they just use the term technical test or insider flighting simply because they want to. In terms of what the average consumer gets to play and experience it’s not really any different from a beta. The technical test sounds like it’ll be only for multiplayer though. Since we haven’t really heard much about Forge at all I’ll be really surprised if we get to play it before release.
They’ve been copying a lot of the same terms from the MCC flights, I’d be surprised if work any different to them.
I’m expecting a few relevant multiplayer maps, perhaps one BTB map, and customisation features that will not pass into the final game. Same thing we saw with MCC PC flighting and Halo 5 beta.
They’re avoided the term beta as it’s not a public or private beta. It’s a Halo Insider Flight aka a technical preview of the game. These are going to be just like the MCC Flights.
We’ll get a portion of the multiplayer to play. Testing balancing, servers and such. They have been very clear that this is a multiplayer flight too. There was a interview between Major Nelson & Joe Staten where they kind of talked about this a bit more.
This isn’t going to be a single player demo or anything like that. There’s never been that for Halo to my knowledge and that’s going to be the case here too. Campaign will be saved until the full launch of the game. Details on story or single player at all will be very limited and vague as to avoid spoiling the experience & narrative.
I think if anything, you may get a tiny portion of The Academy. You’re not going to get any sort of campaign with this.
They’re calling it a technical preview because they want to harden and validate at large scale. This is precisely what ske7ch said. I believe they are using the Halo Insider program (for a couple reasons) largely to have an idea of how many people will be on at once. I think they haven’t given us a date either because they have a goal in mind in terms of how many users and are counting the Halo Insiders until that goal is reached. Ske7ch asked for help in spreading the word so I think they coincides with them having a goal and why we don’t have a date yet, because they haven’t reached that goal.
This will primarily be used to make some minor tweaks and changes for balancing, as well as making sure this game and the servers can handle the massive playerbase at launch. The multiplayer is F2P, so this is what they intend to test, being that the majority of the population will be playing multiplayer.
IF we get anything campaign related, it will only be a very small portion that is isolated, and has nothing that pertains to spoilers.
The way I see it, they are fairly confident in their game and they just want to get the polish necessary to make it a smooth launch when it comes out in a couple months.

Wasn’t there one for the PC version of Halo CE way, way back? Got to play one level and then Johnson would tell you to buy the game and the Demo ends? That being said though, I’m not really expecting any sort of Campaign Demo for Infinite at any point either. It might benefit from having one, given it’s the paid part of the game and so the ‘risk’ of buying a game and then finding out you’re not interested after all and etc, but I’m not expecting one.
I highly doubt we see anything involving the SP in any testing capacity simply because the campaign is one thing they can test completely in house. They can’t stress test servers at 343 HQ nor can they get the large amount of player feedback they need to balance the sandbox in MP, so they’re is very little point to them letting players test out segments of it early.
