I don’t believe the Spartans were sterilized; I think their -Yoink!- drive was taken away.
In any case, John and Kelly are best friends and nothing more, and I’d doubt that they’d even entertain the notion of a romance.

Also, I hope no relationship like this comes about, the Dare/Buck relationship felt forced enough when playing ODST before their relationship was further explained earlier this year.

Don’t the augmentations get rid of sexual arousal all together? If that’s true, Chief wouldn’t want a relationship, same with every other Spartan-II. Correct me if I’m wrong.

This is actually a very common misconception. A reduced -Yoink!- drive has only ever been listed as a “risk” associated with the S-II augmentation procedures (the catalytic thyroid implant, specifically) - i.e. it’s a possible side effect, but not guaranteed to happen or necessarily permanent if it did. Also we don’t know how many of the Spartans were actually effected by this, and even then people can still desire companionship and romance without a -Yoink!- drive. Furthermore, nowhere in Halo canon is it stated that Spartan-IIs are incapable of having physical or romantic relationships. In fact we’ve had the opposite proven quite a few times through Spartans like Maria-062, Randall-037, and the members of Black Team.
To the OP, I wouldn’t mind seeing them end up together as long as it’s done in a subtle and tactful manner. And in all honesty I’ve been in favor of this idea since reading ‘The Fall of Reach’ a long time ago. I always thought John-117 and Kelly-087 had something that was just a little more than friendship going on under the surface. Their interactions with each other are definitely the most emphasized and unique among the members of Blue Team. We’ve seen this evidenced throughout canon over the years - particularly through moments like Kelly giving John a special ‘Spartan smile’, and later when John confronts imminent death from Hunter cannon fire strictly to protect her. They think about each other quite often when separated, with Kelly showing particular concern for John’s well-being. And Kelly is the only person whom John has ever referred to as being beautiful. You don’t see actions like this from either of them directed towards anyone else.
Now whether or not this is the seeds of romance is totally up to interpretation. I think it has potential to bring a lot of growth to each of their characters and to further humanize the Chief and the other Spartan-IIs. The simple fact remains though that they are best friends, and that relationship is something that is indeed important to both John and Kelly’s characters. And seeing as how this is something that has been mentioned multiple times in regards to Blue Team being in ‘Halo 5’, I’m really looking forward to seeing how their bond comes into play in the story going forward.

God I hope not. I want my Halo to be War driven. I was just adding an observation from reading Fall of Reach and First Strike recently. Anyway I am leaving and not coming back.
