Throughout the build for Halo 4, 343 have maintained a stance of “designing with competitive in mind”, and showing a keen interest in MLG, their views, and again, stressing how important the competitve scene is. They are the developer, they are the key to how successful competitive Halo can be.
Now, to even be considered a competitive/esports title, the minimum req. should be a spectator mode. This allows production costs to be 7/8 of the cost that it took to produce old halo games on stream. It allows online content to be far more easier to produce. Without a spectator mode, Halo wont even get a look in to leagues such as IPL or even MLG, why would they, when other team games such as LOL, Gears and COD are far easier to produce?
All the above also applies to Youtubers, and Machinima who also produce similar content.
Gears had a spectator mode patched in, without the excuse of bandwidth being used. It is certainly possible.
The only saving grace is the inclusion of a twitch app for the XBOX…
If 343 were to truly support competitve play, you could access tournament streams/player streams via a MM menu, think of it as another playlist, where you freely choose who you want to watch that is playing Halo 4, this could create that link between the veteran spectator, and the curious casual who is unsure how to make the first step into watching/playing Halo at the highest level.
Gears has a completely different engine to Halo, we don’t know all the reasons behind the lack of it, but I can tell you now, I doubt Halo will ever support it.

Spectator mode has always existed in Halo, its just never presented to the user. There were “hacks/mods” of sorts in the Halo 3, and Reach betas that would let you play as white team, where you would have 1st person view of everyone. It was originally meant to be a feature in Halo 2 and 3.
It’s a neat idea and everything but I don’t see how it will make halo more competitive. In my opinion I can care less if mlg uses halo or not. Competitive halo is me vs someone else or ma team vs another and we fight for bragging rights and the satisfaction of winning, being better not to get on mlg.
As long as it would display the player 1-2 minutes in the past. Otherwise people would abuse it. “Hey jump in my game and tell me what the enemy is doing” via party chat.

Christ, did you even read the OP? Its not to make it “more competitive” it is to help produce online, and LAN content on a cheaper and more convenient basis.
And to the poster above this, OF COURSE its not in MM, custom game option mode only, like every other spectator mode, I didnt type that as I thought it was that obvious.
I know they said it takes up too much bandwidth, but I’m not really sure what they meant by that. Is it bandwidth from online play, or did they mean something with the game’s engine?
If it’s online, then why not make it only available during LAN play? That wouldn’t help some people like the youtubers, but it’s better than nothing.

Its probably B.S.,other games have it, its slowly becoming a standard. This is the kind of thing Halo should be innovating, like they did with Forge/Theatre.
