So, prefab theft.

I just did a search for my prefab vehicles I’ve made. Mine are unique due to the “MRAP” tag.

Dear god in heaven.

16 per page, 98 pages, with the first page having my vehicles and 12 copycats.

Does anyone else have this issue??
And how might one prevent it??

On a note that’s more positive, anybody care to check out what items apparently have been stolen roughly 1,580 times?

EDIT: I’ve looked a bit more into the Browser system. I’ve got my answer.

EDIT 2: So prefab theft would be a bit strong. Learning that the bookmark system is kinda of glitched/broken, I kinda accept it now. But i’m not 100% sure still.

Its not that they’re stealing, Its that they are saving copies and the copy is automatically defaulted to search visable on.

That happened to one of my pre-fabs, I searched it and its like 20+ pages of my object that show up in the results, all of them copies. They need to fix that issue, maybe default the search visibility to off on all objects, saved copies shouldn’t even be showing up in and spamming the search results. Somehow of those saved copies of my object have more bookmarks and likes than the real one does.

Its a really easy problem to fix… I doubt they care to do it though.

I’m thankful that my vehicles are of such unique design, it’s almost impossible to replicate a brand new design and say "I"made it thanks to it.

Overall even if they go and grab a copy of a copy it still credits you. So it’s all good in the hood.

The reason there are so many copies is because they are using “Save a Copy” rather then Bookmarking. I have the same issue, and it’s really annoying. It’s not that I think people are stealing from me or trying to take credit, but the fact that it takes away from the total bookmarks so you can’t see how many people downloaded your content. And I understand there is a problem with bookmarks right now. I did a little research on here about a month ago and found one of my maps has been Saved rather then Bookmarked over 5000 times. I’m sure it’s probably doubled by now.

I wish 343i would find a way to show how many people saved your map along with bookmarks, or something like that.

How do you find out if they’ve been saved?

So the map I’m talking about is my remake of the Halo 3 Warthog Run, it’s a 343i featured map. Basically what I did is I went to the Content Browser on this website and searched the name of my map, “Installation 04B”. Then sorted by Last Modified. It ended up showing my map, but with a bunch of different “Modified Authors”.

I can tell it is my map because it is on the same canvas, has the same map description, has the same tags, and has me as the OG Author. So by sorting by Last Modified I was able to see all the players who saved a copy of my map. I went all the way back to when the Content Browser was released, around 9/8/16. The Content Browser shows 20 maps per page, and it went back about 250 pages. 20 maps per page x 250 pages = 5000, which means my map has been saved as a copy by other players about 5000 times, and that’s not including before the Content Browser release. I’m sure it’s gone up quite it bit more since then.

Most content creators are going to attach screenshots to their finished content.

Copies normally don’t carry the screenshots with them so on the rare occasion I use the search I basically ignore everything that doesn’t have an included screenshot. I still have to go through hundreds of pages of copies.

Just think of all the unique content that may be set to generic tags that end up buried under thousands upon thousands of copies.

Makes sense to me. They ought to program that exact process into the browser and maybe even do away with the bookmark system. Then you could spend less time figuring all of that out. Just save a map if you like it.

Of course, then it really wouldn’t make any sense to require us to be online constantly. We’d could just as easily be saving the maps to our consoles like the good old days.

The best solution I can think of would be to disable search visibility on saved copies and then have the “save a copy” option automatically give a like and bookmark to the original author.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but can bookmarked prefabs even be accessed from the in-game menu? I don’t think they can…

Though, as one of those people that can be lumped in as ‘prefab thieves’ (because the bookmark system is flawed and filled with glitches anyway), I wouldn’t mind having the ‘search visibility’ setting switched to ‘off’ by default. If nothing else than to not have to go through 1k pages of the same thing to find new/different content.

Every time I go in to the prefabs I have to “save a copy” the bookmarks for some reason never work for me
