So....Pre-Order Armors?

I thought these were going to be released? Does 343i still plan to do this?

I’m dying to have the Deadeye Helmet, but I really don’t want to shell out $20+ for it on Ebay.

All of the preorder bonuses except FOTUS are available by purchasing the Halo 4: Game of the Year edition.

That is not an acceptable business practice.

Do people know nothing about good and bad business practices? Don’t blind accept things!

I personally don’t want to spend another $50 on a game I already have just for some codes. The map packs are a joke because they hardly ever even come up in matchmaking so the only thing worth getting is the armour codes.

I’m hoping and praying the last of my exclusives doesn’t go out to everyone. Otherwise what was the point in buying any special edition if everyone eventually gets it?

Then dont buy it?

If you cant live without some armor codes, then i dont know what to suggest.

And that’s an “unacceptable business practice”? 343 can sell you their product at whatever price they want. They made it, they get to set the terms of purchase.

You don’t want to comply to those terms? Tough.

Personally I was hoping that they would release the skin packs on the market place at some point in time. Similar to how they release them for Borderlands 2.

I’d be willing to pay a buck a skin on the pre-order armor I don’t have.

I think I’m only short 3 of the 7 bonuses that were available.

We as consumers should not blindly accept every practice that game developers throw at us.

Let’s first talk about preorder incentives. What does preordering do? It creates this investment (foot in the door) into a game that isn’t out yet and that we don’t know very well how good or bad it is. People usually lack information to assess the completeness or quality of a game but by giving pre-order incentives, it’s essentially denying content to those who try to assess the quality of games before purchasing.

Often times, those incentives are parts of the game that are cut and then given to various retailers. There can also be gated content which basically says, if you don’t pre-order, you won’t get as good an experience as other people. Some games can have cut levels, cut content. Sometimes it’s sold off to people so it’s basically paying for disc locked content. There are a lot of issues that could be talked about but I’ll try to keep it not too long.

Halo 4 has had a bunch of problems. Some of them did not directly have to do with bugs or balance. Some things were not handled well like crimson dlc thing. The amount of emblems, armour skins and little chipped off pieces of the game is big. Look at what a mess this is: http://www.halopedia.org/Halo_4#Pre-order_bonuses
One could easily theorize that it’s done so to exploit people’s desire for completeness. And yes, at least some of this stuff is disc locked content that was taken out of the main progression to be given to so many retailers. And it’s not that hard to notice. Notice how some armours did not have a skin in the progression system like gungnir or CIO? Where do you think it went? Also the whole specialization thing. Some of it was put into Pre orders so it’s an item of discussion here. Gated content for people who either did not buy from a certain retailer or bought the game afterwards. A lot of people were turned off by that gated content and artificial form at prolonging the game. It quite backfired I’d say. Part of the halo experience is the player customization. So it is taking part of the experience and locking it out. That content was done with the game. It’s not post-release content like the infinity armour pack. So it’s taking away a part of the halo experience.

And what of the game of the year edition? First of all, GOTY edition, a term I don’t like too much. Who’s credible GOTy? Annoying marketing ploy, not very original either. Now it’s an incentive for people that haven’t gotten the game yet to get a good enough starting experience. Okay, I suppose. But it’s also used as an incentive to get the disc locked content, part of the halo experience to those who already have the game. 40$. Buying the same game you already have and paying a price that shouldn’t be paid to get the full experience that was developed and included in the game but locked. If there were good and other alternative ways of getting the content? Okay. I had asked 343i about it and they said they were looking into other ways. It’s been over half a year I think and nothing yet. No word on it. I originally didn’t denounce this due to them looking at alternative ways but it seems they dropped it.

So some people might go, oh it’s their game, oh it’s just armour and skins. Consumers should be responsible and not blindly accept everything and anything from the games industries. In an age where the gaming press, that is supposed to protect the consumer from bad games, has not been doing its job too well, consumers should be double careful. By accepting the, what some people consider, as not too important, it can basically send a message to the developer saying, ‘hey, things went well with the previous way so maybe we can just cut on more stuff and get more incentives, like levels or maps.’.

Step up, don’t accept everything blindly, think, act, denounce.

> We as consumers should not blindly accept every practice that game developers throw at us.

Exactly. No one is forcing you to buy anything.
