The articles on desync explain so much to me about weird trends I’ve noticed while playing.
The 1v1
When I’m in a 1-1 with an opponent, and we’re almost matching shots, sometimes it’s impossible to track my enemy effectively.
- If the server is prioritizing “shooters” when deciding whose game is “true”, the player who lands first shot will probably have a “desync advantage”.
- The defending player will probably have a tougher time landing a shot, because the server will be refreshing the shooters location to spots the defender might not see on their view.
Recommend: If you have a good ping, you can probably go pretty aggro when you land first shot on players. Focusing on gunfights where you’re hitting first shot will probably get you results better than previous titles. Tbf this has always been kinda important for consistency though.
Matching strafes
I’ve thought that aim assist in Infinite increasing when you match the movement of your opponent was an intentional feature of aim assist in Infinite. But now I think it’s actually a byproduct of the networking.
- If you are moving in the same direction as your opponent, the difference between your view, your opponents view, and the server view will be very similar to each other.
- If you and your opponent are moving in opposite directions, the server view will likely favor one player based on server ping and whoever is landing their first shots.
Recommend: If you can land first shot on someone try and strafe opposite to them. You’ll likely burn their aim assist.
Melees
The infamous whiffed melee.
- The server view seems like it would favor the player positioning of the player with the best ping.
- The server view seems like it would favor players who are firing weapons.
Recommend: Lead your melee’s if you have bad ping, or if your target is firing. If you have bad ping, maybe landing a shot shortly before melee will help keep a desync miss from occurring.
So these are how I’m seeing some anecdotal in game trends explained from the desync info we got today.
Any of you Spartans have an idea on how knowing the networking systems a little better should inform your game? Or am I just over analyzing because it’s what i do all day at work
?
