So no playable Elites because MP is canon?

That’s the reason we were given right? We can’t play as the Elites in Multiplayer because they decided to tie it to the canon? I was fine with that. It was a new direction and I figured I’d give it a chance, and I’m not really disappointed by that whole aspect of the game, just a little confused.

See, we play as a Spartan IV, training in War Games. The whole mode is, canonically speaking, training and practice. We can’t play as Elites because there aren’t any on Infinity and as such, can’t take part in the simulations. That all checked out to me. Then something occurred to me. There’s a whole mode in this simulation dedicated to playing as the Flood. Instead of being a normal Spartan IV, some take on the role of Flood. Now someone is probably already writing “it’s to prepare them for battle against the Flood”, fair enough. But why wouldn’t they have the same thing in regards to the Covenant? See, if you think about it having them take on the roll of the Flood is pretty stupid to some extent. When the Flood take on the form of a Gravemind, it has access to all the information stored in the minds of the infected. If Spartans are trained in the form of the Flood then they aren’t simply helping their comrades train against the Flood, they’re also learning to fight against Spartans as the Flood. Thing is, if they train as Elites, they’re only giving themselves and their comrades better experience against the Elites.

If they can simulate being Flood, there’s not much reason they can’t simulate being Elites.
Just something I’ve been thinking about.

I’m sure the Flood playlist is considered “non-canon”, as the infection rate that it suggests (plus the way they infect) is ridiculous when compared to the other Flood encounters.

However, you prove a great point. If what you say is true, then there is a large gap in 343i’s logic.

EDIT: Also, don’t forget the size of the Elites compared to S4’s, it’d be a wipeout (unless Invasion was made again)

I thought the reason Elites weren’t playable was because only Humans can use forerunner technology, and so Elites wouldn’t be able to use the Promethean weapons.

Obviously that doesn’t count either since the latest Spartan Ops with the Scattershot wielding Warrior Elites.

Whatever their reasoning, it was a harsh decision and seems biased.

Devs seem to think all people care about is Spartans. That’s not true. I find Spartans to be incredibly lackluster.

Yeah, I would have liked to have the Elites in matchmaking too.

However, from a Campaign story perspective, the Elites are your enemy. You’re not an Elite at any point in the game, nor are you ever allied to an elite as in Halo 2 and Halo 3. So this is some possible reasoning behind the lack of the ability to be an Elite.

i believe it was to save time, money and energy on 343s part.

Elites probably weren’t added because they just didn’t have enough time. Its not the only thing that didn’t make the cut either in this game.

It would have been really cool though, Invasion could have made a great return.

Spartan all the way.
