So my K/D's dropping like a rock...

I’ve been playing since launch, and have managed to keep at least a 1.48 K/D up playing as a random (I don’t know anyone that plays Halo) until the TU dropped last week. Since then, it’s been all I can do to go positive in a match, let alone hit my target of a 1.5 K/D.

What’s changed? Did I miss something in the patch notes? I’m not a Boltshot camper (and the pitiful nerf it received wouldn’t have affected anything anyway). Did Trueskill change and start matching me with better players? Did more teams start playing? WTF?

This game drives me nuts sometimes. I enjoy playing when I can perform decently, and when I can’t, I can never figure out why. I have a no-slow wired controller, a low input lag monitor, a solid wired Internet connection, I practice pretty much every spare second I have, I review my games, I watch montages and gameplay commentaries… and I never get any better.

k/d is worthless in this game. I stopped caring after week 1.

The only people left playing the game are try hards. Feels like every game I play is against a full party calling me out everytime I am one shot so I get cleaned up from some other guy.

Just focus on winning the game, the fun aspects, look at your K/D if you lose a game see what you did wrong. But as long as your team’s winning and you’re doing your part, then so what if you have a bad K/D? I don’t assume people are bad or good anymore by K/D since it all depends on team chemistry and everyone has a different role from main slayer, to the assist king.

I wish that was true.

Try hard is just a term people apply to those better than them as well, quite silly.

At least you didn’t come on here and rage about how it’s 343’s fault like most people would.

My only suggestion would be to keep playing how you normally play. Everyone has off days every now and then.

“What a try hard!”

Uhhh Thank you? o.O

I’m in the same boat. I was doing pretty good at launch. Recently I’ve been doing terrible. As a random player I feel like I’m getting matched up against more full teams more often. I also doesn’t help that I moved from DMR to BR. It’s like all the bad players quit the game and all the DMR/boltshot/jetpack full teams are all that are left… We’ll aside from the 3 “worst players in history” that always end up on my team. I know the games population is decreasing but their should be no excuse that I’m constantly matching up against people with 2.0+ K/D’s while my teammates are like .89 K/D. This game is starting to become frustrating. I just want to play with/against people of similar skill. Blowout games should never happen in a game where matchmaking actually works properly.

You should just focus on your win/loss ratio! K/D doesn’t matter that much, just as long as you don’t mindless charge into enemy fire.

To everyone saying that K/D doesn’t matter: I understand the argument, but since 343 won’t give us skill ranks, it’s the only metric of my skill that I have to go by. Win/loss is an even more meaningless stat since I search as a random, and whether we win or lose is completely dependent on what teammates I get, and therefore completely random as well. I do what I can to help my team (especially in objective games), but W/L is irrelevant to me as far as a metric for my skill.

> You should just focus on your win/loss ratio! K/D doesn’t matter that much, just as long as you don’t mindless charge into enemy fire.

W/L ratio means even less to people that aren’t playing with full teams. W/L ratio means nothing to me because I’m either carrying my team to what will more than likely end up being a loss or my whole team of randoms is getting crunched. W/L ratio means even less than K/D. Even full teams shouldn’t care as this game doesn’t even try to match people up properly. When it comes down to it people that play with teams should have good 1.50+ W/L and random players should have .80 and less W/L.

> You should just focus on your win/loss ratio! K/D doesn’t matter that much, just as long as you don’t mindless charge into enemy fire.

the unfortunant aspect of this game is that win/loss ratio means nothing. theres no value in winning other than the relative elation of winning but thats not all that entertaining due to teams very different skill set amung players (i mean im still in games where i have teamates who go -20 and other teams players go -20 and +20 on both sides respectively). and also theres no punishment for losing.

so if theres no reward other than a meager satisfaction (ranks change this but only slightly) and theres no punishment (derank) for losing theres no incentive to care one way or another whether i win or lose.

what is left is k/d or k/a/d.

Back on topic…

Maybe your play-style has changed? I know the majority of my friends like to play aggressively. As in running into a room full of enemies and throw grenades. Because of this they generally have a low K/D.

I prefer to play it safe. If I am outnumbered 3 to 1 I’ll probably back off and wait for backup unless I can figure out a safe strategy or if I have enough firepower, i.e. a rocket launcher or something.

> Just focus on winning the game, the fun aspects

There aren’t any fun aspects of getting beaten.

> everyone has a different role from main slayer, to the assist king.

I’m the assist EMPEROR. I swear my teammates are reading my mind - I go through getting an enemies shield popped, and my teammate grabs the headshot while the enemy’s teammate comes along and cleans me up. I get the assists and the deaths, and they get the kill. Again and again and again and again…

> Everyone has off days every now and then.

Sure, but an off week? Something’s changed, it’s gotta be…

Glad to know someone’s having the same experience. I was going to do the weapon commendations (had switched my loadouts to BR and LR), but went back to DMR to try to save some deaths.

Truth.

Play CTF and never go for the flag. Then pick off people who do try and actually play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. If you do this often enough you will easily reach your goal of a 1.5 kd. And the when your teammates complain become a necrophiliac and -Yoink!- their lifeless bodies.

And this is why kd means -Yoink-. It should only be counted towards your overall kd in slayer type games.

PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT ON CTF… it really sucks having those people on your team, King of the hill is even worse, I hate when there’s one guy standing inches from the hill and he’s all scoped in and shooting instead of playing for the goal.

What I do is play a handful of SWAT games afterwards. That usually helps, I noticed mine dropping too, but mainly because I’ve been playing more skirmish games… and getting paired up with or against those who just go for kills, lol.

My K/D dropped from launch as I kept getting paired with clan who just tore me apart. It’s been going up but it seems to be going down again.

BTW defending the flag on CTF is actually helping the team.

I has a lot to do with matching with lop sided teams, it is super frustrating, and it really needs to be addressed.

I have been losing games all day because of unfair teams, lag, and getting into matches that are already in progress.

There is a difference between defending the Flag and Camping for Kills… I left CTF for that very reason… Campers call it a Legit strategy… but when a player stands off to the side and could careless about the Objective at hand… whats the Strategy other then for their own well being… its up to whats left of the team to win.

The amount of times someone steals my LightRifle kills with a DMR shot in Big Team is -Yoinking!- ridiculous. I’d probably have mastered the Assist commendation a 2nd time if it were possible, with the amount of times it happens.
