I wish there was a much more contiguous story and plot linking all of 343s Halo iterations.
Why didn’t we get to fight with the created? 4 banished dreadnaughts vs the best ship in the UNSC arsenal and it just goes belly up without us even getting to see or play that lore? What happened to cortana and atriox fight? Why couldn’t the story follow the banished a little and show us their side (like H3 with the sangheili) I wish we couldn’ve fought the banished on the infinity as MC. Where did all the other spartans go? Where is locke? palmer? lasky? It feels like a cop out to just have the back story told through audio logs. From what I gathered through the game, there could have been two other full games worth of lore in between halo 5 and infinite. We shouldn’t have to read the surrounding lore (novels, Halo Wars, and such) to know where/what the story is and forward, but if you don’t read the lore you have no idea what is going on.
I feel like 343 missed a big opportunity with the story. And just like with H4 and H5 most fans are just playing along like “what is going on? but it looks good” . . .
The fate of many old characters is unknown, which is very disturbing, even though I have read almost all the novels.
Roland is my favorite AI character and has not even been mentioned. If such a powerful ship AI is deployed, the Banished’s plan may not succeed easily.
There are few characters in the game and lack of description.I’m particularly dissatisfied with the part of Jega.
Exactly. I would have loved to see the Infinity and its forces combat the banished. and how did the banished find the infinity? Then just clap it in under 20mins. Some wack story for real… Roland would have definitely put up a fighting chance even before the UNSC crew reacted. Him being the most powerful AI not under cortana’s control, one would think he would have an important role.
I did enjoy the story that the campaign told - namely what happened to Atriox and Cortana and how Chief has to not only get back on his feet but do so with a couple new allies to help against a new threat.
The weakness of the story though is that it left a lot of exposition out. Would’ve liked to have seen not only a bit more of the Infinity ambush but also a bunch of the other events - Zeta Halo’s damaging, its teleportation to another location and bringing everyone with it, etc - and just hearing a bit more about where or what happened to some of the other characters (Lasky, Locke, Blue Team, etc).
Having to suddenly jump into six months with some of this information being only mentioned by NPCs or audio logs while the rest is completely left out in the open is really lacking.
I really didn’t mind the story and feel like it left enough room to ‘expand upon further’ in a future ‘DLC’ or new ‘Halo’ campaign. I thought the story was ‘decent’ by today’s standards.
The voice actor ‘Darin De Paul’ did a phenomenal job and was ‘top notch’ in delivering the dialogue he was given as ‘Escharum, The Banished.’ However, the way the character was written caused him to bloviate and boast way too much throughout the campaign without an option to skip the hologram dialogue, which became rather redundant and tedious to witness.
There are really quite a lot of posts discussing Infinite’s story. Unfortunately, they get buried underneath all those “Nobody cares, but I quit” Posts.
However, I feel like those discussions also don’t really grow/develop, if there are too many new posts, wondering about the same things others already have wondered about.
i343 wanted the new storyline to launch as fast as possible.
The old storyline wasn’t important for that, but still unfinished.
Suspecting the Infinite was compromised after potentially fighting a Guardian?
But yeah, head-canon doesn’t go far. It’s odd.
Though not uncommon.
Establish the new big bad as extremely powerful by easily beating something we know is powerful.
Rumours has it 2/3 of stuff got scrapped.
At this point the continued Halo story hasn’t had a clear path.
i343 has been overcorrecting or simply discarding things based on some feedback.
Honestly, I don’t think 343 has any idea what they want to happen in their own story. They haven’t stood behind ANY of the progress they have worked towards for the last three games.
Each game has been drastically different in terms of Campaign and especially the Multiplayer. There are times where I think I understand the Halo universe better than 343 does… the only thing they got on me is they can retcon whatever and whenever they want.
Nobody cares about the campaign. They play it. They say it’s good and it never gets touched again. Halo may have been known for its story but Halo is a multiplayer game now. The campaign is in the back seat
Both campaign and multiplayer game are crucial.
343 spent a lot on depicting the Halo universe, publishing comics and novels, and made a lot of money.
Through these ways to comfort old fans, attract new people and make them customers.
Commercial companies will only make their choices for profit.
Urge 343 to produce more campaigns and ask them to add more free costumes that can be used in multiplayer games.
Players should not split. We should put pressure on 343 together to urge them to do better.
Oh yeah the campaign should have became in the Infinity fighting the Banished. The Infinity, hte biggest ship of all humanity, destroyed so quickly ? Master Chief defeat by Atriox so easily ? All of that was nonsens !
And this is the reason it isn’t doing so well, the lackluster campaign and totally absent extended universe aren’t drawing people in like the Halo 3/Reach campaigns did. It’s a shame, Halo was born as a campaign focused package, and deserves to stay that way.
Agreed. Halo’s 1-3 followed through with a concrete storyline with welcomed additions. They didn’t abandon major plot points in their previous games.
I feel the campaign of Infinite suffers greatly from too many loose ends that were tied up off screen. Too many new ideas with too little focus on following through on previously introduced major story elements. Looking back on Halo 4 to Halo 5, it also suffered from the same.
Cheers to hoping 343 will hire new writers or bring Staten back into a writing position as well.
