So many paywalls…

Are we gonna keep talking about how the overwhelming majority of customization is still locked behind paywalls? Tons of armor pieces, armor and weapon colors, visors, and emblems/nameplates. Not to mention armor attachments.
I guess the neglected to mention that when they said Infinite would have the most expansive and in depth customization of any Halo game thus far….as long as you have deep pockets.

Even if you do, most of it is still uncustomizable.

Do you remember when 343i said that all customization would be unlocked by playing the game and wouldn’t have microtransactions?

Pepperidge Farm remembers… and me, I remember.

I’m a casual player, and I’ve gotten a ton of cosmetic stuff just from playing.

How convenient of you to overlook all of the free events that have happened - including now - in-game. But I guess it’s easier to cry about having to voluntarily spend money on a F2P game.

My post didn’t say there weren’t options available. My post pointed out that the majority of customization is not unlockable via an event or for free in the battle passes. Given that there was so much advertisement and so many claims of vast customization, it very disappointing that so much is locked behind a paywall. I do appreciate the condescending tone and ignorant comments though. It’s helpful.

No, could you please cite this? I’m pretty sure that was never ever said.

Yes, a lot of customization of only available by purchasing it. That isn’t surprising to me. What is surprising to me is how much of the purchasable content is actually unavailable to purchase most of the time.

343I have been generous with free items recently but i do understand what you mean.

I’ve never ever bought anything on this game and
I refuse to. I just stock up my reward points and let Microsoft do the paying.

probably because most of the free stuff is just basic boring crap they throw into those dumb events. honestly those stupid events are so hard to keep track of, why dont they just keep everything up all the time, why is stuff only available for a limited time? i thought the point of video games is they’re long lasting, so why the Hell make stuff limited time only in them? It’s Total BULLCRAP!!!

All about the Benjamin’s baby!

Yes, this is where we’re at now with Halo. The unfortunate part is that this is the first Halo to be released as a Free to Play with a high store pricing. I hope the next shall is released with everything included in one straight forward price.

yes a full price game with everything available to earn at no extra cost is what we need, or if they make extra content it better be worth it. $20 even $5 just for a few armor pieces is not worth it at all. i could totally earn alot more in past games in just a few months with gold than i can now in infinite.

Honestly there is only so many armor variations you can do, If you have a over 20 hours into the game you should at bare minimum have one set dress you can wear as you are killed off spawn.

Unless of course, you’re waiting for Fotus armor or something.

I’m pretty sure they’re misremembeing 343’s promises of not weaponizing fomo (which they have) and that anything you could earn via playing couldn’t be acquired faster with money (which is also false).

They definitely said misleading things ABOUT mtx, but they definitely didn’t say there wasn’t going to be any MTX.

Not to mention thinking they were just going to give away free MP without mtx is kind of silly.

Of course most of it is behind a paywall… That is how free to play games work. Developers make a sub par game because they are busy making cosmetics to sell for $10.

Which is exactly why I wish they hadn’t gone this route. Halo is a poor model for F2P. It’s bad practice to take a long running ip and to then, in a new installment, reduce the features, options, and gameplay which is necessary in a F2P game. It’s impractical to expect F2P to come with equivalent options, features, and gameplay as a full price game. So what they did is they sacrificed quality of product for the quantity of players. If this had been a brand new franchise, it’d be understandable and on par with much of the multiplayer competition. The problem is that Halo is not new and it has had a very long running fan base/player base. This far in, to sacrifice quality to try to cash grab will (and has) alienate the pre-existing player base/fan base and make it very difficult to recapture that audience going forward.

The concept on paper makes sense. To turn Halo Infinite into a rich ever evolving product is actually a great idea. But it doesn’t work well on the current F2P model and the execution has already been disastrous for 343i. The game has only just started reaching a point where it’s what it should’ve looked like at release and we’re over a year in. Recovering and then producing high quality engaging content going forward is going to be very difficult and the fans are losing hope that it’ll happen. At least any time soon.

There are and were plenty of cosmetics to be earned for free, but you are correct about lots of paywalls. While there are plenty of free events where you can get like, a cool armor coating or something, there is just sooooooo much down in the microtransaction pit. For example, most of the helmets for the Mark VII core. Another example, 90% of the non-Noble armor coatings for the Mark V (B) core. Besides the two new ones and Moa Assault in the winter pass, I haven’t seen a trace of all those other coatings that are listed. OP’s original post might be a bit of an exaggeration, but for the most part, they’re absolutely right.

Perfectly stated. But 343i took the approach to many of these Battle Royal games in giving us a “free game” and charging for various items. Now, to be fair, many items are unlockable through playing the game, but still.

Even though they have weaponized FOMO, they do a decent bit to mitigate it. I was surprised at just how many were mad that 343 was “recycling content” by putting Phalanx for sale in the store after it was in the event. While it sucks to have to pay for it, I’d almost prefer that over missing it completely.

Compared to other games (Overwatch, Apex Legends, Fortnite, etc.) I’d say we have it pretty good in terms of paid vs. free content. There’s quite a bit in the store, but as long as you show up for events you can get a lot of free stuff also.
