So many missing / removed "Halo" and FPS features

Yeah, the game is fun, but I was expecting more from the multiplayer beta.

Halo Infinite looks and runs great on the Xbox Series X, however when you are releasing a multiplayer game in the current world there are some basic features you now need to have. Major titles such as Destiny and Apex Legends have set the bar high for fluid movement and important features in FPS games. 343, you needed to at least match this standard.

A ping system has become pretty standard and also critical now in a multiplayer FPS game. If you are ever planning to release competitive ranked modes in future there is going to be a bit of a struggle to compete with the other FPS’s without having a ping system.

You have also removed many small (but effective) things which made Halo feel unique… I was shocked to find that you have not revisited the executions which were introduced in most recent Halo games??? Especially when you have such a big opportunity for a battle pass and for players to buy and customise such things. I remember in Halo 5 this was such a fun feature, sneaking behind people to perform a very cool execution… Where has this gone? A bit dull that it’s a standard melee.

Perhaps these are bugs or just temporarily left out… But plasma pistols no longer stunning vehicles? No jetpacks? Bubble shields? Who knows what else…

Let’s look at Destiny, a game with probably the most multiplayer gameplay similarities… which has the most dynamic collection of abilities and tools you can use. Even if we completely forget that Destiny allows you to fully customise your abilities and perks… At first glance, just from the gameplay mechanics and equipment on offer in Halo, I really can’t see how Halo will get close to the kind of multiplayer experience which games like Destiny or Apex can deliver… Unless if some of the older abilities are added and some more modern FPS features are included.

Even the battle pass and character customisation was a bit lackluster. You have a much loved franchise with the biggest lore and history but there was nothing unexpected in there. Nothing mind blowing… You could tell the battle pass and customisation was an after thought, possibly designed and added in the last few months.

I know it would have been unlikely… But things like selecting an Elite as your character and customising it was something which made Halo quite different in the past… It’s sad this again won’t be an option. These are the small kind of things which set you aside and make players continue wanting to play after a few weeks.

With Halo 3 as one of the best multiplayer customisation and feature benchmarks, coupled with the current multiplayer FPS market… You may have missed the mark a little. I have been a huge Halo fan for years and Halo triggered my love for FPS games. I expect the game will get a lot of love from old Halo 1 fans, but for those who (like me) have been playing much better multiplayer FPS games in recent years, it’s going to be a challenge to grip a long term competitive following and pull them away from other battle passes.

I am still looking forward to the games release! This is going to be a great casual game to play with friends. But I really hope there is enough here to keep players interested. Just not quite fresh enough imo! Thanks for opening this beta.

They are adding in executions post launch.

If jetpack were to return it would have to be treated as powerup level of equipment like an overshield or active camo, and it should have a very limited fuel supply since jetpacks in previous Halo’s was one of the most overpowered and game braking armor ability introduced into the Halo sandbox.

A ping system, such as a mark location & callout button? That does exist… up on the Dpad marks wherever you’re aiming. Notes the amount of enemies in the area too and even tags power weapons or available seats in your vehicle. That feature got revealed before the first flight and is live in the flight.

Assassinations are coming post launch, as previously confirmed before the first flight too.

Playable elites are just unbalanced to be honest. They were annoying in Halo 3 & even worse in Halo Reach. Different hit models & head locations made it so you couldn’t shoot them in the back of the head. And in Reach they even had physical advantages too. I hope they never return.

Equipment is a much better choice than Spartan abilities or Halo 3’s equipment. Whilst the bubble shield was cool it just halted gameplay too much. Jet pack was probably the worst part about Reach multiplayer too.

343i is trying to make Halo Infinite have its own identity, not just repeat what has come before. They’ve certainly taken elements of older games and refined them.
But this isn’t Halo 3 2.0 nor is it Halo Reach 2.0 either. Don’t get me wrong, I love both of those games however Halo Infinite is probably the most refined Halo experience I’ve had in years, I’m glad they done away with a lot of the older stuff and made their own take on the game that is fundamentally good.

It is not a Beta for your own enjoyment, it is a technical test to gather data for the developers.
Sounds like the L goes to you for having wrong expectations.
