So is the TU not doing anything about TruSkill?

Okay, so I haven’t played much Reach lately, but me and my brother sat down playing split screen yesterday, and…well, long story short, the results were pretty stupid.

First of all, in Halocharts I have a 40 in Team Slayer. Yes, they don’t know how exactly matching algorithyms works in MM, but they work constantly and update plenty, and they’ve been around a long time. I think they can hold some credit.

Now, here are the games last night. Very few were good matches. It was either…crap on or get crapped on. Really.

I do better now, average daily ratings when I DO play, around 1502, can’t it judge based off past daily ratings in a season, not division?)

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773101770&player=Natasatchaa This was an almost even match. Bottom players on each team sucked hard, and this Kanji man lagged pretty frikkin’ hard first half of the match. And it wasn’t the lag that made the lagger bad, it was the lag that pissed off the people shooting him.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773121670&player=Natasatchaa Okay, yeah, the other team had a backpacker, but WE could have won if this HoodedCargo idiot could have broke EVEN, but TruSkill is ALL screwed up.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773134476&player=Natasatchaa Red team was bad. Sort of had a backpacker on our team for the bottom two people.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773146797&player=Natasatchaa This was really a fun match, and even, score wise. We pretty much lost because they had mics, and we used Armor Lock all match to troll them, and they raged pretty hard even if they did win. It was worth it. No complaints though, Even match.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773161774&player=Natasatchaa Again, sorta even score wise, but bottom guy red team…sigh.

Next one is again, even. I won’t link, even. Happy.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773185477&player=Natasatchaa Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773198412&player=Natasatchaa Even worse!

http://www.bungie.net/stats/reach/gamestats.aspx?gameid=773213176&player=Natasatchaa Omfg…

I’m not trying to show off. I just want even matches. Stomping on lesser skilled people IS fun, but the sense of accomplishment in toppling a competent team is much better.

true skill needs to stay in halo 3 and not mah reach

Why’s that? Do you want complete randomness of who you will match up with? Do you want to keep stomping on lesser skilled players without a challenge?

I don’t want a number next to my name, I just want good matching.

You can turn on Trueskill based matchmaking, as it is. The problem is that most playlists don’t have the population to provide good matches.

First of True skill is already at work in Reach but in a less obvious way than in H3, the game tries to find people that are at the same skill level. I can say that I have more diffcult games at K/D of 1.22 than I had back at 1.15 for example. But sometimes you will stumble on a super easy game or an insanely difficult one. It depends on how many people that are online and that isn’t already in a game. And don’t forget that Reach has a ton of playlists dividing the players, so the odds that you would get a perfect game every time with all the people being the same trueskill as you are slim.

Halo 3 wasn’t perfect either, on some days I could be matched against generals because there wasn’t enough people online. And I’m only a Major in H3.

Refer to my fileshare for what skill restriction does for me.

It’s always been a problem that I couldn’t see my truskill in Reach. I can’t really tell how well I’m doing so I can’t improve much, It was different in 3. That’s probably why my K/D is so small in Reach.

I guess, but how would you try and improve you game if you hade a number next to your name? You would still improve the same way as you would without that number, by killing more people, more assisst, dying less and winning matches. K/D combined with W/L % gives you pretty much what you need to know. And here on waypoint you got your BPR number.

More TU info is still yet to be revealed. I wouldn’t be surprised if a new ranking system was announced. 12:45 PST Sunday on livestream- TU discussion.

At least part of the issue is how Reach handles Trueskill, since the formula is exactly the same.

In Halo 3 new players started out at the bottom and fought the worst of the worst in their first games. This encouraged making new accounts to pad stats, making gameplay frustrating for the less skilled players and defeating the whole purpose of Matchmaking (which is to find equally skilled opponents with little effort).

Reach, on the other hand, has players start out in the middle of the ladder, somewhat equal to a 25 in Halo 3. This combined with the less strict matchups means that new players can match against practically anyone, from 1-50. This in turn results in very one-sided games when either very good or very bad players try out a new playlist. This somewhat hampers stat padding using new accounts, although it doesn’t completely remove it. Another bonus is that it’s easier for the system to gauge your skill, but this accomplishes little, since new players can still be matched against you.

Stricter matchups and low population don’t work too well together, so until the population goes up again (I hope the TU will result in this) we’ll just have to live with what we have.

Yes, I relise that, but I think it’s easier to get my info on what I need to improve straight from my xbox instead of going and turning on my computer.

I’m sorry, but that search restriction does jack -Yoink-. I’ve used it on every match for the past week or so. It takes longer to search games, and it still does nothing, I was in arena (I’m silver) and everyone else in the match had no division. I was carrying my entire team.

here are a few of the true skill fails I’ve come across. I NEVER play 4v4 games with anything less than a party of 3. most of the time my friends and I can get 4 of us in their though.

I don’t understand why people don’t find other players to party up with. after you play a game and have decent team mates send them invites. you can have a full party of non quitting, decent players in just a few games. it’s not that hard.
