First I will start with H2 was my first Halo game. Of course the BR was the “utility” weapon, and that is true for H3 as well. Then came Reach which some say the DMR was the utility weapon which I can some what agree but the BR can’t be ruled out either. The same goes for H4 IMO as the BR and DMR can have valid arguments… Then in H5 it was clearly the pistol… Now my only experience with HCE is in MCC but the safe bet is the pistol as well… So this brings up Infinite… Now this was only the technical flight but I will say I felt the AR was the best all around weapon. The BR was good but it’s rate of fire was just a bit slow it felt. Now I am certainly not against the AR being the utility weapon, but most(mainly the super competitive type) probably won’t like an auto being the utility weapon as they want the only skill in Halo being that with a precision weapon. Just thought I would throw it out there on what if the AR is the utility weapon of Infinite? Good? Bad? Maybe a welcome change? While I play strictly for fun now Iike the idea of an auto being the utility weapon.

The BRs, Commando, and pistol have a faster TTK then the AR I’m pretty sure. It just a solid starting weapon that is limited to a short range. Distance will be emphasized with this Halo and you’ll want to maintain it if they don’t need the melee.

Yeah I saw some of the times to kill test and what not BUT there is more to being a utility weapon than just time to kill. Time to kill is under optimum conditions. So mobility, cover, aka map design are factors as well. With the mechanics and few maps we experienced the AR just seemed better. Precision weapons need more open areas and clear sight lines. These maps were pretty compact and some what cluttered which led to automatic weapons like the AR to work best. Also I guess I should point out I play on the OG Xbox and only used the default settings on legacy mapping.
I don’t think infinite has one and I would prefer halo move away from jack of all trades guns.

The AR felt great just like the Needler. You have to be in a open setting to really maximize it. People running into rooms with be penalized the most from it. If you are trying to hold a choke points those you’ll lose 9 times out of 10. Each weapon has utility in Halo Infinite IMO.

I think they have. Each weapon has a clear situation it’s best for IMO.
I was slaying bots with the AR. Run up and spray in a 1v1, then melee if you happen to get close enough. Bots did not know how to handle this simple strat. They were always lobbing grenades mid firefight, so you’d win the encounter 99% of the time.

Well, no, since the BR wasn’t even in reach. If you meant the AR, then no again, because it sucked in that game. They made it’s bloom WAY too aggressive and its damage output wasn’t high enough to compensate even in close range. It was actually out-damaged by the DMR at all ranges, especially at medium and long range, and the tiny bonus it gave to shield damage barely mattered since you could just kill someone with a shield-breaking headshot with the DMR whereas with the AR you’d have to completely finish off their shield and THEN melee to finish them off.
Not really, it’s just useful for once. I always found it boring that the go to weapons in every situation where you lacked a power weapon were the BR or DMR. At all ranges. CQB? No problem, melee and one shot hs. Dull af. Every previous AR except maybe 4 and 5 have been inaccurate, low damage, ineffective weapons. Glad that’s changed

I wouldn’t be against this either as I feel knowing what weapon to use in each situation is better than just being good with a main utility weapon. One thing I liked about H5 was the weapon balance as more weapons felt viable than just a go to like the BR (which they never got right in H5 IMO).
