So I'm getting an Xbone and H5.

Honestly never thought this day would come, but the S is pretty cheap and comes with H5 and H:MCC. I have played every halo rather religiously. There are possibly some people here that would remember me but who knows.

Anyways, what is the current status of the matchmaking? I just read there’s no region lock anymore, is the game that dead to cause this? I’m sure people still play. I’m sure it wont take ages to find a matchmaking game. I guess the only people still playing would say the game is fun so it’s hard to get an idea here, I guess I just want to be hyped and excited to play a halo game again.

Pop is decent. The H3 days is gone and never will return, just like how mario had a peak halo has had one.
You’ll get matches instantly. If you’re waiting its probably your connection.
The problem is with the ranking. It’s based on win loss not preformance. Some like it other like myself dont.
The game is fun and rewards aiming.
Now fair warning the game is like 91gig big. MCC is around 40 gig. keep that in mind.

It’s an awesome game that gets a lot of unjustified hate. If you enjoyed the original trilogy, H5 is a great mix of old and new…

Not saying that some things couldn’t be better, they definitely could, but there are plenty of well-designed maps and the gameplay feels amazing (when the servers aren’t acting up…)

As long as you’re open to the new abilities and the possibilities they bring, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the game quite a bit. They work surprisingly well…

Good to know, the ranking wont burn me too bad. The size, I’ve been told is definitely gonna suck -Yoink- but that can’t be helped. I assume I can’t play the campaign while it’s downloading.

I pretty much never have decent teamates in every halo I’ve played, I of course blame this on Jerimiah, who was the matchmaking lead dev back in halo 2 days after I beat him in some custom games. Even if that’s probably totally not the real issue, I have no real expectations for advancing too far. I’d need my old team back and I’d need it to be 2008 again, hah.

At least pop is fine. After playing halo 5 on PC past few days, my only gripe will be the Spartan nonsense. I know this doesn’t jive with most halo 5 players, but oh well. I mean my biggest issue is lack of playlists. There really was a prime time for that but I think that also had a lot to do with pop. When it was over a million all the time, they felt comfortable with a rather diverse spread of playlists. You had community map made dedicated playlists, actionsack, rocket race, your slayers, objectives, your SWAT, and some others. It always made it possible to do whatever you wanted to do when you needed a break from something.

I can’t see a way to check what playlists are live now, but that’s a concern of mine. What’s typically live?

Good for you. Halo 5 takes up almost 100 GB (I have an external hard drive so this doesn’t effect me) so be warned. Matches are found reasonably quick in the U.S. and UK. If you’re up for a game then add me. The best modes are team arena (slayer, CTF, strongholds and assault in the one playlist), breakout (Swat, nuetral flag and take out respawns and reduce weapon damage) and Warzone assault (similar to invasion on smaller Warzone maps and 12v12) IMO. Hope you enjoy playing the games!

Edit : There are still some classic playlists like Oddball, KOTH and Race absent from matchmaking just to let you know.

That’s exciting! Welcome back! Combat is actually very smooth and is now more intuitive for those accustomed to modern FPS games. Now that I have evade and clamber as part of my movement set, I can’t imagine going back. And the population is still big enough that I have never once waited a longer-than-normal time to begin a match.

Team arena
Slayer
swat
team doubles
breakout
big team battle
infection
action sack
warzone
warzone assault -kinda like invasion
warzone fire fight

may be mission something but cant think of them.
just fyi the req thing only appears in warzone variants and even then isnt that big a thing

Edit

Also You can get ODST as DLC with MCC

For starters, never is along time… And Super Mario Maker sold incredibly well!! I would argue during that time Mario was almost as popular as it once was back in the day. Heck, some might say as popular. It’s very debatable.

@OP I’ve seen that deal myself, not a bad deal. H5 isn’t a bad game but still far from the greatest of halo 1-3. Though it’s better to play Halo 5 now because it’s in a much better state then it was 11 months ago. In a way I almost envy you… You get to see halo 5 as it should of been from the start more less.

well if your up for either classic or new, it canbe your choice. I mainly just play halo 5 just only for the multiplayer and with the new update it’s kinda better now with the custom game browser, sad part is that it will occasionally crash somtimes. Hey maybe we can even play together online if you want.

Yeah I mean that’s sort of the mindset I am in. It’s hard to get a good read from halo since it seems to be over a lot of the initial bad stuff. I just never thought I’d return to the halo series. I’ve been having a blast on PC, but I just had that urge of like, -Yoink-, I need more, halo is actually fun again.

I just hope my boxer settings work on Xbox, cause they don’t on PC. (The spartan slam thing seems to prevent melee in mid-air, despite only tapping the trigger instead of holding it).

If you go into Halo 5 expecting it to be Halo then your going to be disappointed. The competitive playlist is a joke compared to older Halo’s and even if you play BTB which is the closets thing you’ll get to actual Halo you’ll still get betrayed almost every game because of the broken weapon indicators. Warzone gets pretty boring after a couple of games so don’t get excited to play it. The overall price for the bundle your also talking about is a rip off. Your better off buying the S separate then buying those games off of eBay or Gamefly.

If your a fan of the original Halo’s like most people then just cross your fingers and hope for a good Halo 3 remastered next year.

I suggest you see for yourself if you like the game.

Interesting feedback. I don’t feel that $299 is a ripoff, personally when it comes with H5 and MCC. Granted, I am aware those games are somewhat cheap through second-hand, but it still feels fine to me. Its technically a 300 dollar 4K UHD Blue-ray player to me as it stands, with an added benefit of also playing Xbox one Exclusives.

For what it’s worth you certainly have the stats to backup your strong opinions about the scene and state of the game. I’m not sure I’ll have as disappointing of an experience as you, but I can get where you’re coming from.

U lost me at unjustified hate and well designed maps

What makes them poorly designed? Some are… but quite a few play pretty well huh?

You should definitely get halo 5 cause it is so good. The custom games are awesome ,forge is better but way more complex, campaign sucked (sadly), and arena is very competitive and warzone is just amazing.

The lad up there has only played about 40 hours of multiplayer^ I reckon you need a bit more experience to really judge the multiplayer, because in my opinion, H5 Multiplayer is better than any Halo except H3.

Overgrowth is horrible along with most of the btb maps
