Then how do you explain infection and grifball?
The multiplayer being canon is just a cop out so they don’t have to use elite models.

Honestly I think you should be able to play as Prometheans instead of Elites.
Yes but the promethean hitbox is HUGE giving it a disadvantage whereas if you use elites, they are equal to the spartans.
> Honestly I think you should be able to play as Prometheans instead of Elites.
Massive hit box difference. I’d love to see the top combat representative from each major faction be playable, that being Spartans, Elites, and Knights.
Well infection has been evolved to integrate the Flood, most likely a hologram of a far off planet as training. As for Griffball, I’m sure they will have some loose explanation for it; downtime for the Spartans or something. It’s really not entirely important.
How about the fact that Spartans on leave don’t go back on earth?
As for infection, well…
If the Spartans have to fight the flood? It’s just practice.
The Spartans are holograms in a holo-room, the multiplayer being their training. “Infection” and other modes could just be “war-games” like how CTF is in Forward Unto Dawn. The armour modifications of infection also being holographic.

Infection: Pretty simple to explain. The UNSC knows of the Flood and is aware of how dangerous they are so they are training the newest breed of Spartan to combat the flood just in case.
Grifball: Most likely a ‘sport’ in the Halo universe. Spartans probably play this in their free time.

The entirety of War Games is a holographic, training simulation.
Nothing is ‘real’, it’s just Spartan IV’s running around a holographic deck that is projecting the environments, game types, weapons, vehicles etc.
You should be asking why there isn’t elites if anything, the concept of War Games allows anything to become possible, e.g Flood models and therefore Elite models.
The cannon aspect of War Games is focusing on Spartan IV training aboard Infinity which you play as competitive Multiplayer. The further cannon then pushes onto Spartan Ops which is real word Spartan IV missions around Requiem.
> Then how do you explain infection and grifball?
Infection - Training exercise in the event a Spartan can control and fight while still infected by the flood. It also allows people to train and have the experience of fighting off infected Spartans under various conditions.
Grifball - Training exercise. Working to fully understand the effects of hammers versus swords when Spartans use them.

I was wondering what your point was… elites are not playable. Any reason in the world is meaningless as to why that is, but in honest truth, elites are not meant to be on the Infinity, are currently seen as allies, and the enemies of storm covenant don’t use the same technology, armors, etc. which technically speaking, is represented as combat scenario’s in Spartan Op’s.

like it was stated before. its all training excersizes. flood trains for well. the flood. griffball is a teambuilding excersize.

This again?
So elites taken out from multiplayer has nothing to do with, I don’t know, the Covenant not being the main enemy any more? More focus on Master Chief? A new breed of Spartans? No? Must be the dislike of Elites from 343’s side and they covered up their dislike with the multiplayer being canon?
I don’t think that 343 meant that all multiplayer stuff is canon either, not the whacky stuff like Sumo wrestling, Ice Hockey and so on. Infection can be explained, but grifball is more of a fun game mode and is probably not considered canon.

ITS FLOOD NOT INFECTION, THE FLOOD IS STILL ALIVE SO THEY HAVE TO TRAIN SPARTANS TO FIGHT IT!!!
and who cares about grif ball really, its just a silly thing from the RvB guys
> but grifball is more of a fun game mode and is probably not considered canon.[/color]
Griffball is actually canon, there is a very small glimpse of a Griffball station in the flyover at the beginning of Forward Unto Dawn pt1.
It terms of fiction it is just a sport Spartans play as if it were college Football or something, nothing major.
The Flood is still alive. They train Spartans to fight the Flood. Grifball could be down-time for the Spartans. Make sence now?

Easy. Even a caveman knows why.
Flood Mode is to prepare Spartans to fight the Flood. Normally, this wouldn’t be possible because there would have to infestation of sorts. Since the existence of The Flood is very real, why not prepare for it using simulations? Lots of ups and reality no downs to that.
Grifball: A few Spartan IVs accidentally discovered a new game revolving around a bomb, two goals, and Gravity Hammers/Swords. Soon, the game became popular and thanks to a rather ancient machinima and sport, recruits and veterans alike that watched it starting calling the game “Grifball” in tribute to a certain character. Thus, the official/unofficial Griball League was born from the pits simulated combat.

Ah I see, so then it’s canon then, and a logical addition as well. Thank you for correcting me.
Infection- Simulation of what dealing with the flood would be like
Grifball- err, no explanation here. I guess it is an official sport now.

For the gamemode Flood I would say that they are being trained for containment and elimination purposes, as for Grifball they are simply playing a game enjoyed by Spartans and Freelancers alike.

experimentation with the vr tech for grifball. as for the flood gametype it is reasonable that after the events with the flood in the past they would run drills on how to handle an infection/parasite like the flood just in case.
