tonight. Well not every country but more than enough. I have been losing my patience as of late due to increasing lag and host migration. So after each game I tend to check profiles to see where people are from. Tonight after a particular laggy game (ctf) from the start I see this: 3 players USA, 1 player Mexico, 2 players Aussie, 1 player UK, 1 player Japan, 1 player Columbia. 1 player Canada. (I was 1 of the USA players)
Why can’t we have a better regional filter? I’m getting tired of giving out bad reviews to people who really don’t deserve them just because of the lag. I know the games population is down but this is getting ridiculous. I have had more black screen drops in the past 4 days than I had in the first 8 months. Strangely even the drops result in overall wins for me? Anyone else noticed this?

I honestly think that the lack of a local only search option is the first reason for the population dropping. I know I didn’t play for long after realising that there was no option. I haven’t touched the game in 6 months because of it.
This is what happens when a game’s population doesn’t peak over 30k on a daily basis
I am in Australia and I get matched to American/Canadian players all the time and the amount of lag and teleporting and black screens I deal with is atrocious

The first reason for the population drop is because of lack of local only search option?
I don’t think so. You must remember that you live in Australia, and every time you play with people from outside of Oceania (which is often?) you will become yellow bar, unless you have host. It is like that because Australia is so remote from the rest of the world.
I am not saying that a search option wouldn’t help, but the rest of the world doesn’t get affected in the same degree Australia gets by not having a search option.
This is what happens when you add other stuff to the matchmaking algorithm other then connection/region. Basically good connection gets hard to find since the game also tries to match players on their skill level add low population and well you know what happens.
I play out of Australia and I get matched with people in Mexico constantly. Not being from North America I can’t judge as to the infrastructure of Mexican internet but hell it’s laggy.
I can still get good games against Canadians and US hosts.

I’m the exact same. Been gone a long time. Probably won’t be back on halo until they decide Dedicated Servers is only way to go.

LOL yeah im from Mexico and i play with a lot od Aussies and UK guys, and yeah, our internet infraestructure sucks. But at least i have 4MB internet
I’m in Australia as well but have only been playing Big Team during the Aussie primetimes and all I get is Australians and New Zealanders. Games are fairly lag free in this playlist at these times at least. It’s just harder to rank up because a lot of low level csr players but I don’t mind if it’s not laggy.

What? No, this issue affects everybody but Americans. Japanese players don’t want to play with US players, the furthest they’re willing to expand to is to Australia and New Zealand. Nobody in Europe wants to play outside their area. I’ve even seen Americans whine about Mexican hosts.
A sliver of lag makes all the difference and 5 minutes of black screens will kill the population.
So I guess I’m not the only one. Has anyone noticed the games counting as wins when you go black then drop out?
They really need to bring back options since every gamer has much different priorities.
For example, I live in the Southeast US, and almost never get lag or people who don’t speak English, so I care entirely about skill and not about connection nor language, although I still get blackscreens due to quitting, even though I notice that I very frequently pull host.
However, someone else in the UK needs a local filter almost constantly, or else they’ll match up with US hosts who have a strafe that SK dreams he could do absolutely love eating bullets…
it doesn’t help that the entirety of Australia’s internet at any given time is piped under the ocean through a single cable no bigger than your computer monitor.

Most of it is routed through Asia before the States too apparently. Which would explain why we have decent connections with Singapore, Taiwan and Japan players. I don’t mind playing on Asian hosts at times. Hong Kong is usually quite good host to Australia/New Zealand too.

Although this is a problem - it is not why MM is at an all time low there’s many other things and 343i is slowly fixing them kind of
Like I said having this search option would be great but it wouldn’t bring the population up to H3 standards
