So, I missed a lot. What's gong on with rank?

Sorry if I’ve missed a lot of stuff, but the hurricane left me without power for quite some time. What I’ve pieced together is that it was confirmed that there would be no visible ranking system.

Can somebody tell me with 100% certainty that Halo 4’s ranking system will be ALMOST identical to Halo 2-3 except that nobody can see anybody else’s rank? Thanks.

For my opinion on this, well I really don’t know. Half the community is up in arms about this, and the other half are ok with it. I guess I’m ok with it, but I’m not going to lie: I’m really going to miss showing off my rank. Whatever, I’ll still keep buying Halo games until I die.

There is no skill-based rankings in Halo 4, matchmaking will prioritize skill-based searching by default now.

Could you at least have the decency of reading one of the millions of threads regarding ranks instead of giving us yet another thread in regards to such a stale topic?

True skill matchmaking may be more refined than Halo 3 but people are complaining that its not visually represented, end of story.

I did. I read most of them. I just thought I’d throw my two cents in.

“Complaining” is a bit of an understatement. That’s like saying “my cat is kneading the carpet” when in reality she’s torn it apart.

Thank you. What will this mean for a competitive player, such as myself?

Nothing, unfortunately.

You will be matched with people at your skill level but you will not be able to see a rank that represents it. You will be provided with a challenge and your reason to win is to utterly humiliate the other team by defeating them.

Hmmmmm… Well, that doesn’t really give me much of an incentive to win. I’m supposed to just hopefully dominate the other team without even knowing how good they are? Part of the excitement of playing Halo 2 and 3 was getting matched up with a 46. You knew you were gonna get -Yoinked!- up.

I’m sorry but I don’t get this mind set. Isn’t the uncertianty of how good the other people may be rather exciting? The other team is gonna be just as good if not better and if you win you’ll get more of a challenge next time but still not be entirely ready for whats to come. Isn’t that allright? It forces you to be ready for anything.

IF the system ends up working this is what will happen. However I believe that this won’t be the case. By not showing an individuals rank they have no incentive to actually try in a game. Their skill level will be innacurately measured and it will be the same thing as Reach. Categorize me as a complainer but to try to find change one must voice his opinions. May seem off topic but African Americans wouldn’t have the same rights of the white man in America had Martin Luther King not “complained” about poor treatment.

Meh… I’m assuming you’ve played Halo 2 and 3. Don’t you remember when you got matched up against very high levels that rush of adrenaline? That feeling of, “Holy Moly, I’m about to get destroyed”. That was intoxicating for me. And those rare times, when you actually BEAT their team. You felt like a god… I’m just not sure if invisible ranks are right for Halo.

Exactly.

It’s not like that at all, everyone has the same thing. Casuals don’t get anything over competetives, really its just rediculous wants for one thing that doesn’t matter if 343 really loves Halo as much as they say they do and refined the trueskill so MM is more enjoyable.

> Frankie is a bad kid at Halo so he has to ruin it for everyone so he wont feel like he is so terrible anymore

Frankie was also the guy behind halo 2 so I think he deserves a bit of credit for creating one of the greatest multiplayer experiences of our time.

Yes I’ve played Halo 3’s matchmaking and if was fun but IMO it was more fun than reach because of the mechanics and gameplay and not because of the ranking. But I did play Halo PC for two years before I played Halo 3 and that was the best Halo multiplayer experience I’ve ever had because no one cared about rank, there was none, they just wanted to kick everyones -Yoink-. There was nothing better than when I was the guy running up and down bloodgulch with my pistol shooting guys out of tanks and they could hardly stop me even at range. I could 3 shot kill people out of scorpions from 40 feet or more. And it was satisfying at the end because my one team mate was German and called me the Panzershrek. But there was nothing better than being that guy in the number one position on the post game report.

Sorry, I don’t understand what you are trying to say? What do you mean everyone has the same thing? I don’t see how that relates to my comment.
