So today in Arena I encountered a player with a fairly unique, or at least fairly retro, mindset. After a few rounds chatting with him in Arena, I said I was going over to Warzone and he decided to tag along. Partway through the game, I hear him ask, “Where are people getting all of these special guns?”
I stopped mid firefight when he asked that.
Tentatively, I asked, “You don’t play Warzone much, do you?”
“Nah. I’ve got like five days logged in Arena though.”
“Oh. Well, you get them from REQ packs.”
“I haven’t gotten any guns out of REQ packs.”
“…really? What REQ packs are you buying?”
“What?”
To make a long conversation short, this guy had NEVER bought a REQ pack. The only packs he’d ever opened were promotion and commendation packs. After the match, I asked him to check how many REQ points he had. It was upwards of 400k. His explanation was “I don’t even look at that stuff. I just play.”

I have 2 friends who did the same thing…they don’t care about the unlocks at all. Neither do I for the most part, I only like different visor colors…armor all looks bad, weapons - I don’t need OP weapons.
I was like that when i first saw a skin on a weapon i was like WTF is this. I said thats stupid this isnt call of duty. Now i buy REQ packs hoping for weapon skins since i only have the green one for the br,magnum and smg.
I rarely usually play arena i rarely play anything else but when i do i just pick up other peoples weapons they got through REQ packs.
Wow. Laser focus on that guy. But didn’t he wonder how everyone had different armor? I guess he bought the game and went in blind never hearing anything about warzone or REQs from anyone till he met you.
That’s crazy. I literally look at every possible thing whenever I get a new game. I mean I go through all the setting, look at the stats section, game modes, skins, helmets, armors, and like literally everything else. All I can say is…
I wish I had 400k now maybe then I could get a dmr or more stances and assassinations lol.
I used to get excited about opening my REQ packs, now they are just some confetti that clogs my screen and I don’t bother even looking at them to be honest.
Sort of a good concept that is done poorly.
The guy you played with had the right idea, just play.
He’s not missing much. I’ve gotten crap, crap, and crap from all of my REQ packs. Sure, the different weapon variants are cool in Warzone, but I want armor that doesn’t look stupid. Unfortunately, the majority of the good armor and other aesthetics are ultra rare, legendary, or mythic.
Anyway, that guy is an inspiration, not getting caught up in all the crap this game comes with. Just playing the game.
He probably wanted to avoid/ignore all the micro-transaction stuff, and didn’t realize the req points the game gives you for playing goes towards req packs, as self-evident as it sounds. I know if anything is remotely “pay-to-win”, I don’t want any part of it, so thank god H5 uses req packs as an unnecessary but functional in-game reward system.
I avoided using REQs for about the first 20 or so matches. I simply wanted to build my inventory to the point I would not run out of items. I have 27+ tanks. Easily twice that with sniper rifles. I now only occasionally use power weapons. Maybe one a match. I level up to unlock my DMR at 6 and then I get my level 8 legendary DMR if I get the chance.
I’ve got a buddy who opened enough REQ packs to get a BR and has refused to spend his REQ points until he gets to 1,000,000. Last time I talked to him he was up around 760,000.
