In a Super Fiesta match on Empire I attempted to assassinate an opposing player. I managed to get up behind them, held B, and had started the assassination animation. The next thing I know he has jumped out of it. I did manage to kill him with my weapon but I thought that once the animation had started there was no way for the player being assassinated to get out of it by his or herself.
Their team was a good distance away but they were shooting at me at the time. I would also like to point out that my girlfriend, who is not on the same internet connection as I am, was near my Spartan at the time and also witnessed the opposing Spartan “jumping” out of the assassination.
Ever since Halo 4 if you attempt an assassination in a position in which there is not enough room the animation is cancelled. In Reach it would’ve been an instant assassination (skip the animation) but in 4 and 5 they cancel. I actually have a very good clip in matchmaking showcasing this cancelling thingy:

That’s the thing, there was loads of room. I should have mentioned it was on the outside part of Empire and the opposing Spartan was in the air, that’s my bad.

Huh, that’s certainly odd then. Probably connection issues then, few days ago I punched a guy assassinating me in the face getting a show stopper because of bad connections…

It couldve been lag or someone dropping out of the game a teammate mightve thrown a grenade close enough to jar him out of it a sever spike or fluctuation i really like halo 5 but it has lots of bugs that go unadressed because 343 doesnt have enough people working on
Yeah this happens often. I have been on the receiving end of the cancelled assassination many times. I often found that it happens to me in Tower on Empire or towards Catwalk on Red DMR on Coliseum. Might just be a connection thing for you though, don’t bite my head off thinking I’m talking about your connection plz.
