So I am terriable at Halo Multiplayer...

So i just started playing halo and multiplayer and not many games under my belt. I am getting stomped in every game I play. Last place ever arena I play.

Is it ok to suck with less then 40 games played?

I am worried I am ruining game play for other people for being so bad?

What should i do to improve?

I am so use to MMO (WOW) and LoL and HotS, where you have levels where you only play beginners in the start. One game of slayer a enemy got 20 kills, and I bet 10 on me. I am not sure to just laugh at each hilarious death I have, or be frustrated that I am not doing better.

Go play warzone assault or Warzone it will help you develop your skill and get use to the new game mechanics. It is a social gamemode so there is good, average and bad players there.

Halo needs a better ranking system like it use to be in the original games. I think it did better.

It is okay to suck. Sucking is the first step to being good at something. Don’t ever let being bad at something detour you from it because then you will never get good. Like everything it just takes practice. Like mentioned above, Warzone is a good way to get use to the new mechanics. Playing the campaign first will also help you just get comfortable to them and then maybe move into Warzone once you are comfortable to learn how to play against others.

There are lots of youtube videos that offer tips for new players as well. I am not that great but like you I am learning and improving. So if you ever need advice or someone else to play with just give me a message.

Well if you’re from LoL then you’ll know that as a beginner everyone sucks. Try to focus on not giving up kills in the beginning. Don’t rush into an open area and get melted by 3 enemies, play smart and try to assist your teammates. Work on getting a dece pistol, try to get your 5-6shot as consistent as possible.

Its fine yes.

Halo is a skill, just like anything else you do. Sk when you first do it your not too good even if you know the ins and outs.

Just keel practicing and youll get better

It’s okay, you’re likely better than me lol

Youw ere playing higher rated players during your placement matches. you are now ranked in Bronze. Keep playing slayer as you should now be playing people on your skill level;

Play Warzone

If you get shot from an unknown location, run for cover immediately, dont spin around looking for them, they’ll kill you

Play defense at first, people will come to you

Don’t furiously mash the fire button, try to work on timing your shots (this sounds like common sense, but I was too wild on the trigger and slowing down made me significantly better)

Yes it’s okay. Sure it sucks getting the guy who goes 5-20 on your team (I’m assuming that was you  ) but that also gives teammates a chance to learn how to carry new/bad players (a different skill). At that point - it’s not just about the kills - but more about staying alive and letting the lesser teammates have more margin for error/deaths. I was out of all FPS games for the last 2 years - then started halo 5 up at launch and was garbage for the first 50 games. I felt more comfortable with aiming - next 50 games I started to learn the maps a lot better.

You have to learn the maps and basic game mechanics. Maps help you understand line of sight spots (where’s a bad place to stand when trying to pick off a player on opposite side of map) and understand spawn points (if my team is all on right side of map and I am in middle, chances are enemy spawns on left in one of the 2 corners).

Keep your eyes open for weapon pick ups in general - not just power weapons. A needler can shut down just about anyone in a small corridor/hallway. Find a weapon you are effective with and try and always to keep that with you - then branch off to other weapons as you can.

Also - playing with a friend always helps. If you don’t have friends in halo 5 - use your mic in public games and find some. If you don’t want to do that - find the guy with top score on your team and stay near him so you can help each other.

In close games - I would recommend letting the better players finish the game (when it’s 47-47 in team slayer). Winning helps the better player not get as mad about having lesser players on their team even though they had to do all the work. Just let them try and finish the job if you can. Not saying you need to stand there and do nothing - just play conservative and try and help your team.

Someone mentioned warzone - I only agree if you want to improve your precision weapon skills first (pistol, br, etc.). Warzone matches are often one sided and are probably very frustrating for newer players. The “good” players can run away with the game since they can get a lead on kills and pts and then call in vehicles and basically destroy you without trying. I’d stick to person vs person before trying person vs vehicle.

No one suck, all you need to do is keep playing Halo as much as you can. This is the kinda of thread i found on Gears of war forums.

You need to master Halo mechanics
Have map awareness

Play campaign first (even if it sucks) to get used to controls, maneuvering, weapons, etc. You could try warzone, but I would recommend the holiday playlist because you don’t need reqs to get weapons, they are short games, and you don’t need a mic to win. Although it can get chaotic on some maps. Don’t let k/d bother you. Look at my k/d! It’s terrible, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have fun playing!

Play the game with the intent to get better at the game. Focus on what you are doing. Do you panic and jump around in circles when you get shot? Does your aim get twitchy when you’re swapping fire at close range? Ask yourself these things and pay attention to them. Learning map layouts and quick paths from one place to another is a huge benefit.

Practice sprinting, sliding, climbing, boosting (this one especially; lateral boosts can save your life), and using the battle rifle.

You don’t have to be a try hard, but putting a little conscious effort into it goes a long way.

Holy Crap! Thank You for all the advice.

Currently my wife and me, she is the one who got me into Halo believe it or not, are dual queing. We are playing every Halo in legendary in time order.
That is causing some problems since Halo 1 controls and Halo 5 are different.

I am going to try some Slayer games tonight in the bronze bracket and see if I can win one. I did win a couple warzones this morning so I am a little less QQ.

Thanks for helping instead of Trolling! you guys rock.

Ot’s okay, the only people who play halo are -Yoink- with no life or MLGtards. Just TRY to play FFA

I know where you’re coming from. I have gone through the same thing. I also made a Forum post asking how I can improve myself in multiplayer, most of the answers I got was to play passively, since one of my biggest flaw was rushing in blindly without much of a strategy or a plan. I think I’m improving a little more in free for all, so I would recommend playing some modes you are best at before moving on to the next one. Playing the Campaign on higher difficulties would probably help too, I used to play it on normal all the time before switching to Heroic. Also, messing around on some maps in custom games would be somewhat helpful too; you can practice some moves and familiarize yourself with the maps and weapon locations. Hope this helps, and remember, practice makes perfect, as they say.

It’s totally okay to suck especially with you not being a big FPS gamer to begin with. All of us here “sucked” at Halo the first time we picked it up so it does take time. Try Warzone or the Social Playlists. They’re less competitive and people shouldn’t give a damn about losing there. If they do then that’s their problem not yours. Welcome to the community and I hope you stick around! Add me on Xbox Live if you want

Its perfectly alright to suck, what modes are you playing? Kills is not the main goal in halo (unless your playing slayer) playing the objective is. You may have the least amount of kills in a match but your still helping your team if you help push the objective

halo has a very large skill gap and is difficult to learn, but stick with it. Now im not the best player by far, im pretty average tbh but know how to play just dont always pull it off and still make bad decisions.

I wouldn’t recommend playing warzone first as its a different skillset than slayer or arena. Now your placed you should be playing other players in your skill level. Play that and try and work on one thing per match.

Some basics are

At your level grab the smg or plasma rifle at all times they spawn frequently and will serve you well even at longer ranges than you think till your good with pistol and br

Map knowledge highly important know where power weapons and power ups are and the quickest route to them. Learn the sneaky jumps and routes, power up are on a 2 minute timer from when they are picked up so watch the timer to know when they come up next.

Staying alive is more important then getting a kill, at worst trade kills. just run away and recharge shields.

never go 1 v 2

Stay with team mates if you can but not right next to them.

Theres heaps more stuff and even times when you break the rules but that should be good for now.

Grab a friend go into customs games and practise with the pistol and the br, as you get better these are the go to weapons for team shot.

Kill enemies, acquire REQ points.
