So,how newb friendly is this game?

I half expect to get flamed but I’m curious,as someone whose only experience with halo is the reach demo, what can I expect? Besides being called homophobic names every 5 minutes I mean.Trying to get an idea before I buy the game.

Well you’re very late to the party, nearly everybody will have an advantage on you due to knowing general Halo mechanics.

Don’t let that stop you though, everybody starts off somewhere, and 343 has stated that they’ve put effort into making sure even newer players can contribute

I don’t know, but I find the campaign on Legendary pretty easy to play, but it’s so ASESOME.

So I can pretty much expect a curb stomping till I learn how to play.Sound about how I expected, thanks.

Game is not newbie friendly at all…this is one of the most infuriating multiplayer experiences I’ve ever dealt with…and I was decent in the other Halos.

not unless you’re extremely bad, your first few games, maybe day it will be pretty bad while tue skill figures out your skill level but onces it evens out it should go a lot smoother.

Quite honestly, if you’re playing with people that played previous halos, you are likely to get owned.

In COD, inexperienced players can still rack up kills because it only takes a couple bullets to kill somebody…in halo you have to basically outshoot/outsmart people with guns and grenades. Having the first shot in halo doesn’t necessarily mean you will get the kill while in COD, it pretty much does.

But try the game out, it’s fun lol

It’s a little bit of a shock to the system after Reach.

It’s more like 3 in the campaign and MP department. Doesn’t take long to get back into the swing of things.

Your in alot of respects lucky that you get to experience halo online completely fresh at a new trilogy:) wish i could experience halo online like i did on halo 2 launch day.

Play the campaign abit and some spartan ops, get a feel for movement and weapons, then get online! just gofor it, with infinty slayer you may get stomped but not all the time. Stick with your team and try to play supportively until you feel you can start to 5 shot people 1v1.

Speak on your mic even if no ones else is! more often than not people will plug in their mics if they hear you!

I feel bad bout my expecting to get flamed comment. You guys on this forum seem quite friendly and helpful

Is it just me, or is there a rule that says you have to be 12 years old to own a mic? It may just be dodgy sound quality, but that’s really what it sounds like most of the time.

not all of use are rude bigots that like to bash on anything and everthing. some of use actually want new players to join in.

damn those squeakers! cant stand them, i dislike kids in RL. so i hate it when they invade a mature rated game and talk -Yoink- like they have a big pair

Hey Xukog. As long as you as you know how to aim and shoot you should be okay. Halo has been really good at balancing the games out so that really skilled veterans don’t have that much of an edge over a noob. I started with ODST and HAlo 3 Multiplayer back in the summer and a bit of Reach. Halo 4 is going to be my first game so it’s nice to know I’m not the only one.

he may find general halo mechanics have changed very, very, very, very, freaking much. Whether or not its a good thing is up to you.

If you have some friends try and let them teach you. My first online Halo experience was Halo 3. I had been playing Halo for many years, but online it’s a different beast.

Don’t get discouraged though. You’ll learn and get better. I use to suck, but now I’m a pretty decent player. If you want some general tips, I would be more than happy to share a few.

Screw it, double post, I’m going to share some general tips with you.

Your radar is your best friend: Your radar tells you where enemies are, where they are going, how fast they are going and a multi-tude of other things, especially with Halo 4’s advance radar. You can tell if a tank is around the corner, banshee, ghost, if a player is below you, above you, or on the same level and what way they are going. Use your radar to lay grenades to pop shields. Use your radar to gauge whether or not you should go into battle or not. Use your radar to hide and get the advantage on an opponent (hiding behind a barrel, watching your radar to see if the enemy player is coming your way, he passes, you backsmack).

Get comfortable with all the weapons: In the beginning of my Halo career, I stayed with the AR. It’s the starting weapon. It was easy to use, it got me kills, I was happy. But when I started using other weapons, like the BR, I got killed more than getting kills. However, when I did get kills, I got kills much faster than the AR. Practice with those precision weapons because they will get you kills faster. And you can’t use the AR in all situations. The more familar you are with a weapon, the better you’ll do with it. So train yourself with precision weapons even if you get creamed when using them. You’ll get better with them eventually.

Quick tips:

  • Jump and aim down at the players feet with the rockets or heavy splash damage weapons like the fuel rod or incineration cannon. Many players make the mistake of firing straight or at an upward angle, this basically wastes that weapon. You’re much more likely to get the kill from aiming at the players feet.

  • Get highground. When on highground you can see a player much better than they can see you. Their head is bigger in comparison to their body, and yours is smaller.

  • Don’t always alert a player to your presence if he doesn’t know you’re there. Try to go in for the assassination, or backsmack (backsmacks, tapping the melee button, will get you the kill much faster than an assassination, which is much more useful when more enemies are around).

  • Know when to switch weapons. If you have a sniper, and you land the first shot to the body. Don’t go all haywire trying to shoot another round unless you know you can land it, most times than not you’ll get the kill faster if you switch to a precision weapon and get the easy headshot, this also conserves your sniper ammo. Switching weapons also negates reload time. Which can help greatly.

  • Walk around with a team. You’ll die less if you’re in a 2v1 where you have the player advantage. You might not get as many kills, but you won’t die as much.

I guess those are all my general tips, at least the basic ones I can think of.

I’m a complete halo noob too. Thanks for the tips really looking forward to getting home and getting started.

My advice is to first play the campaign, and experiment with button layouts to find a style that suits you best.

When you’re comfortable with the controls and have a decent feel for Halo combat, hop into multiplayer. BUT STEER CLEAR OF STANDARD INFINITY SLAYER.

If you’re new, I can pretty much guarantee you will not have fun in 4v4 Team Slayer. Going -15 isn’t fun for anyone, and jerk teammates will be more than happy to let you know you suck. Rather, hop in a game of Capture the Flag or Big Team Slayer. An objective gametype like CTF allows the lesser-skilled gunman to still have a positive impact. In Big Team you still get to play Slayer, but have access to larger maps and powerful vehicles that can help you make a difference.

Good Luck!

tl;dr - Infinity Slayer is NOT newb friendly. Try another gametype.

i’m noob too, game hasn’t arrived yet but i’m looking forward to it my halo 4 controller has already arrived.
