Halopedia lists infinite as a fps and also has installation 07 as a location in the game.So this answers a couple questions
Well it being a fps is the most obvious thing ever and I believe people figured out we are on installation 07 from decoding morse code made by a UNSC radio we saw in the trailer.

Is Halopedia an official site or is it updated by community members?

Hello there. I help admin Halopedia. I can help you a lil here.
-
I just added a thing to Halopedia’s Halo Infinite article saying that as of right now “Installation 07” is Mentioned Only. And isnt confirmed to be the setting right now. Morse code only helps get us a mentioned location. And is not definitive proof.
-
Regarding the shooter thing. You can see that right here. GENRE “First Person Shooter”

Halopedia is not Bungie or 343 Industries. While Halo is a Microsoft-owned franchise, Halopedia is not affiliated with Bungie, Microsoft, 343 Industries or other official parties of the Halo franchise. Pretty much exactly like Halo Nation(Halo Wikia) we are fan project dedicated to recording the Halo Universe.

So many people keep saying it’s open world and I just wanted to confirm it for them

It is possible to have an open-world FPS. The two genres aren’t mutually exclusive. It’s unknown now whether Infinite will have open-world environments or be more traditionally linear.

Didn’t really work well for destiny though

Destiny is open world the same way halo is a third person shooter. In other words, it isn’t.

Destiny does have a lot of open world exploration compared to halo

Destiny’s execution wasn’t what people were expecting. It wasn’t as open as people wanted, it was repetitive, it had large stretches of nothing. It didn’t sport the “if you see it, you can go there” promise that Bungie talked about during development. The idea was great, but the execution left much to be desired. Destiny could very well be the example that sparks better open-world FPS titles in the future, by teaching other devs how not to do open-world FPS.
Besides, this is just considering one extreme vs the other. There’s always the possibility of blending open scenarios into a linear game. Much like the Halo mission in Halo CE; you could tackle those objectives in any order you wanted.

I’m fine with the exploration previous halo games had,I just dont want it to become an rpg type of halo game

Destiny’s open world feel is definitely not what hurt that game though, so many other things went wrong with Destiny.

You don’t have to have RPG elements in an open-world game. They naturally blend well, which is why most open-world games have RPG elements, but it doesn’t mean every open-world game must have RPG elements. Given the feedback on Halo 4 and 5 and what 343i has said about Infinite, taking Halo in the direction of an FPS-RPG is not in the cards.

It’s about the same as Halo combat evolved’s most open levels. The actual map structure is a circlular path along which enemies are sporadically placed, and some patrol mission markers. There’s nothing to really explore, not like a game like TES or fallout, which is what people usually mean when they say open world

I just don’t want halo to be THAT kind of open world
that moment when people just take anything from a side with halo in the titel as official news -.- … check whos behind the side, before posting something as fact (or answer to a question)
tipp: stick to really official sides like waypoint (but not the forum of waypoint, except someone labled: 343 industries)

I just imagined Master Chief approaching a travelling trader on the snowy hills of the Halo ring …
-“Show Me Your Wares”
-“Willing to Craft Something For Me?”
-“How About a Few Rounds of Gwent?”
-“Wait, Why is There a Trader on a Halo and What’s ‘Gwent’?”
-“So Long”
