So... Halo Wars 2007 demo...

I’m sure someone has posted about this before, but I just got around to seeing it after nearly a decade (or I have a very poor memory).

I enjoyed the original Halo Wars as a finished product, but this would have been great. Halo Wars 2 doesn’t really interest me for a number of reasons, which I don’t feel like discussing (and I’m sure someone has already been over them at one time or another).

Anyone else think it would have cool if Creative Assembly/343 would have made HW2 more like this?

Free building placement for a console RTS would just make it more clunky and slow-paced…

No, breaks the flow of halo wars unique fast gameplay in comparison to other RTS’.

I would have enjoyed free placement of buildings to an extent. Maybe within base walls like in this demo.

That base is a tremendous waste of space. It’s huge for no real reason. Sure it looks good and would be fine for a campaign mission, but if it was in multiplayer/matchmaking, it would force the maps to be much large to accommodate, making games slower paced and more drawn out.

I don’t really mind that.

Larger maps would require larger armies, otherwise they’ll feel empty and have lots of wasted space. The 360 couldn’t handle much more than what HW was already doing on it.

So you’d have larger armies, a larger map, and free building placement to worry about. that would really change how an RTS plays on a console.

Also, goodbye framerate.

The overall idea isn’t necessarily bad, but implementing it properly would take time and work. Time wasn’t something that Ensemble had once they were officially developing HW.

I was talking more about a sequel doing something like this. I’ve always wanted larger armies and I actually like long matches in strategy games. Maybe it would work better for an isolated game mode. I’m fine with Halo Wars as is, I just think the idea would be pretty cool.

SupCom 2 was like what some are saying, its free build and has a larger cap. (though buildings are counted in it.) its wasn’t the great RTS on PC, but its a pretty good console one. Its actually BC on Xbox One. It does lag a little, but its 95% smooth and runs pretty well.

I got that free with Games with Gold but never played it. Maybe I’ll check it out this week.
