It kind of looks like Halo 5 might have some stiff competition with the new Doom game. I just saw the livestream of the Bethesda showcase, and it looks really good. Campaign, online multiplayer, even a modding suite that works across all platforms. What are your thoughts? And yes, I know it is coming out in the Spring of next year.
My thought is that VS threads are dumb.

Fair point.

I third that.
Also, Halo wins. Halo always wins.
DOOM and Halo are so vastly different games I don’t think there’s much of a comparison to be made.

This.
DOOM’s multiplayer looks alright but I don’t think it’s at all in the same league as Halo, not even Halo 4 (in terms of population). I’ve got nothing against Doom and I’m sure the multiplayer will be fun but I just don’t see it having a lot of staying power.
Doom’s greatest strength right now seems to be its faced paced action and user created content. I was very excited to see the game’s reveal but to be honest it felt a bit underwhelming. There weren’t that many enemies on screen or even acting very aggressive. I’m sure this will get better with harder difficulties and later levels but the AI didn’t really seem too aggressive unless it was a tougher enemy.
I’m gonna keep a watchful eye on Doom’s progress but it looks fun.
The map creator that they showed off for Doom is on point though. Looks really indepth and looks like it would give players the ability to create some really awesome content. That said I think the two games will end up being quite differnet, just through campaign gameplay style. Doom looked really fasted pace. I think the with both offer differnet experiences, although I can see where you are coming from. Certain aspects can be traded between both the games ‘the opening scene with the character putting on the helmet in first person, reminded me of the halo reach intro’. Maybe it’s titles can take aspects from each other and improve on them, creating a better experience for fans of both.
That halo hype though.
Doom looked great, but way way to gory. Like on a scale of 1-10, the gore in that game is about 500.

Exactly, a perfect DOOM game

Yes, like making a fast-paced FPS game without ADS and (as far as can be seen) sprint in a market that is oversaturated with these kind of trends.
So far, from what I’ve seen, Doom 4 seems to deliver on exactly those points that I had hoped Halo 5 would (but didn’t).
Also, so much for all those claims that “You can’t release a game in todays market that doesen’t adhere to genre standards/modern mechanics”.

I second this.

I disagree with this about wanting Halo 5 to be like Doom that is not what I would want they are just far to different besides Halo has never been exactly what I would call a real fast paced shooter ever.
Doom has a really good base going for it. Lots of potential there. Especially with that Timesplitters-esque Mapmaker. (Brings back so many good memories with the TS3 Mapmaker.) But it’s still just a base it looks like. For one, the guns need a clear buff. Although the player at E3 for the game was trying to show off each of the weapons, you’ll notice he kept switching back to the DB shotgun because it seemed the only actually damaging weapon besides, of course, the chainsaw.
Also, yes, the enemies aren’t very aggressive it looks like. However, again, they’re a good base, They could be easily made more fierce.
And the last problem I saw was that the whole game has this orangish filter to it. I REALLY don’t like constant filters as they REALLY make the game look bland quickly. See: Deus Ex: Human Revolution with its utterly terrible and always-there yellow and black filter. Ugh!
No, if anything, I think Fallout 4 is definitely the biggest threat to Halo 5 right now. Maybe BO3. Maybe.

I’ve not seen much of Fallout 4 if i’m being honest but I don’t really see how Fallout 4 could be considered a threat to Halo being a single player experience only and all? Same goes for Doom and Halo I don’t see them being a threat to each or even COD for that matter the only threat to Halo is itself if it doesn’t do enough to make itself competitive and stand out from the crowd. At the moment however it is doing enough for me anyway to be Halo and stand out but I shall wait for launch to give my final verdict.

When I say threat though, I mean threat in terms of sales and/or what will be played more.

Possibly we will have to wait and see but it shouldn’t be an immediate threat as Fallout is a November release if I am correct and Halo is October so they are not in direct competition initially perhaps people will leave Halo for a while to complete experience Fallout 4 upon release so the single player experience but if Halo 5 has a good launch and the multiplayer is great then I am sure people will come back to Halo after and dip into the multiplayer anyway if that is what takes their fancy.
As fun as Doom looks, I have to say that I am not intrested in the MP of that game.
love doom, so much better than h3, looks like i’ll love it. but i have to be fair and not solely criticize h5 and give praise to doom. one thing i hate about what they did was the constant amount of animations and clamber. still this is the most video game competition we’ve seen since like 2010, hopefully they don’t all bomb, if so the console drought has ended.
That Doom multiplayer looks pretty cool, but I doubt I’ll get it.
I’m going to get Halo 5, the Dishonored Remaster, Dishonored 2 (was there a release date for that?), and I’m thinking about getting a Wii for my wife because she’s in love with what they’re doing with Yoshi’s Yarn, Mario Maker, the new Star Fox, Zelda … it’s going to be an expensive year and Doom would be way down on my list.
And we haven’t even seen what Microsoft has up their sleeve yet, so … um … it’s probably going to be a very expensive year.
Doom won’t have any impact on Halo 5 in terms of sales because Halo 5 releases in a few months while Doom is Spring 2016. Bit of a gap there…
