and that also confirms that the monarch coating we saw of the mark VII is in fact a skin for the mark VII so yeah looks like armor skins now dubbed coating will return for infinite
truth be told I liked that part fro 4 and 5 as its basically spartans customizing their armor to their liking in more depth so im all for it in infinite
While I don’t think this exactly confirms whether or not Infinite’s armor coatings will be like a skin for the Mark VII, I think this does quell some of my worries. Originally I believed that 343 was effectively scrapping color customization in favor for a shader-esque system, potentially selling them for more advanced colors later down the line as well. However given the specific use of “coating” for what was previously just their skins puts a certain context to the meaning of coatings that leaves me much less worried, but still cautious about the nature of them.
The Halo 4 skins were simply different patterns on the same armor sets that allowed you to change certain areas of color for that set, but still held the color customization just fine. So if the Armor Coatings in Infinite are anything like those skins, I could tolerate them much, much more. That said, that does not necessarily mean that the Infinite armor coatings will operate in the same way as the Halo 4 ones. But it gives me some hope.
To be frank, I think this should get some more attention than it does. I’m sure there are plenty of people who share my concern about the implementation of armor coatings, and while this does not by any means give anything solid about the nature of them, it’s something to chew on and try to interpret. 343 should still address exactly what armor coatings are, but the use of coating is intentional for H4, so it can suggest something about skins in the future.
