So frustrated with MP, why do I even bother?

So, aside for the first couple matches on a playlist, it seems to me like I generally just get put down like a b*tch by everyone and their grandma…

I know I’m certainly not the greatest player, my main skill is close range combat and I feel as though that Reach up and killed the close-range metagame for people, making them instead focus on ranged combat where I have almost no skill. Even in close-range, it’s far too often that someone with a BR puts me down even when I’ve got more rounds hitting the target than they do.

I’m 150 deaths in the negative from everyone putting me down from a distance with their DMRs and their BRs, and as I rarely get wins either, I wonder why I even bother playing the multiplayer?

Maybe I’m doing something seriously wrong? Maybe the game hasn’t been changed enough back to Halo 3? Maybe mid-range combat is really how it is, and I’m just too old-school or unskilled to play online?

It would be nice if someone wouldn’t mind helping train me to maybe get better, but seeing as this is the internet I mostly expect a “I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking. noob, quit your b*tching and grow some skills!”

Just felt like venting my frustration, wondering if anyone else feels this way? Hopefully I could come back to Halo 4 MP when the CSR is put into place…

Halo has never really been a close range game. Halo CE-Magnum, Halo 2 and 3-BR, Reach-DMR. Your best bet is to work on your DMR and BR skills because those weapons will always be the forefront of this game.

I would suggest learning to use the BR effectively, its very easy to aim once you get the hang of it. Other than that, playing in parties always helps with people that will cover you.

So what you’re saying is that people really just focus on mid-range or long-range combat, and I basically can’t do anything with the close-range at all?

Hey, I would certainly help you. Im not the best at Halo 4 (I have a K/D of 1,70 I think … and about 150 games played and 100 won)But I was really good at Halo 3. So good I even would consider myself a TS Pro.

Add me: Davilundd

Then play CQB only. AR + Boltshot + Active Camo + AA Efficiency

You can use close range combat (AR), but most players who are good with the BR should be able to take you down no problem. Mid-long range will remain dominant.

Actually your wrong. Halo 3 has had plenty of levels where people throw grenades down, hell even griffball was designed entirely for close range. Problem with this game I tend to be fairly good with a pistol, switch to a forerunner light rifle when I think it’s needed. I just miss the good old days when an assault rifle was useful without being sprayed from every direction by dmrs, etc… since that’s the worst thing that happened to halo 4/reach, lead to people have less variety in battle plans, made the series less fun.

The analog stick setup of the Xbox 360 makes for extremely clunky close range combat. How often have you gone to melee someone and then just lost them completely as they jump, and then looked around in circles for seconds wondering where they were as they did the same to you? It’s not a setup that is very conducive to CQC fighting.

In a slightly related post, when you’re split screened and using sensitivity 2, it takes over 5 seconds to look from full top to full bottom. Really makes me long for my mouse and keyboard at times.

I didnt say anything about grenades, I meant the weapons. And I didnt necessarily mean mid-long range fights, I meant mid-long range weapons. Most players would still choose a BR close range over an AR.

I can’t ever remember a MP being dominated by the AR instead of the BR (or DMR since Reach). I would say learn to use precision weapons bro.

Halo 2 and 3 maps where designed in such a way that you could engage a person with a BR in close quarters if you wanted to, but they where usually prepared for such an eventuality. Close quarters combat used to be a big part of halo, don’t let anyone deny it, and many of us excelled. Halos changed. To much for me to find my old swing in it anymore. I played reach once online and walked away from it knowing that the game I loved had died. Halo 4 gave us some token returns of halo mechanics, but I bet that the hard core reach players are coming out on top over the halo 2 and 3 guys. Maps are designed for a completely diferent style of play, and if your BR going agaisn’t a DMR reach player, forget it!

I’m really mad now. the multiplayer is stupid and soooo frustating. This is the worst multiplayer experience that i have never seen in a game.

i dont see much of a problem with CQC except the melee system in halo 4 is limited and never registers even when there right in front of you… well i personally use the AR alot most of the dam 4v4 slayer maps are all very CQC, now im no pro and my k/d is like negative 200, but my advice to you is learn to burst shot the AR to make sure all your shots hit. now i hate that i can empty an entire clip on someone and not take them down when there BR drops me like nothing, and personally i think the BR needs to be toned down in accuracy and damage. well enough ranting ill give you a list of advice that helps me stay alive in battle…

  1. if using AR learn to burst fire to make sure your hits actually land in CQC
  2. Learn the melee system and the distance you need to make sure you make contact(set up a custom match, plug in an extra controller, set no time limit, and just try hitting the other player till you get the hang of the melee and its distance)
  3. personally if your going CQC i think plasma grenades are your best friends(once again personal opinion)
  4. pick up grenades when found on map for that extra help
  5. now for the common one learn to use the DMR atleast slightly(no need to be a pro with it) but i mean on big open maps there is nothing you can do about it… just gradually work your way into it slowly

After using mouse and keyboard in FPS’s for so long I can’t play Halo on less than 10 sensitivity. Anything less feels like I’m struggling through molasses, and even 10 feels too slow sometimes…

@OP: Close range isn’t dead. It’s better than Reach actually. Melees actually damage through shields again so you can fire a short burst from the AR and melee faster than a DMR can kill you up close. The only problem is that the maps are really open so getting close can be tough. If you want to use the AR then use it as secondary with the Firepower perk. That way you have DMR for mid-long range and AR for when you can move into short.

Halo was never a close-quarters game. Meleeing was only effective in Reach because of the ridiculous range it had and because most maps were designed for close-quarter-combat. It wasn’t an issue back then because I’d just Armor Lock anyone who tried to double melee me, but now in Halo 4 meleeing is only useful at point blank range.

You’ll loose most of your fights if you don’t shoot and only go straight for the melee. Thank god bleedthrough is back.

I was pretty good at H3 and Reach. But I didn’t sit down long enough to truly excell at halo 3. Either way I can give you some tips for close ranging.

Assault rifle + bolt shot + active camo. use AA efficiency and probably explosives. You will mow anyone recklessly running about down. Downside is if people really are paying attention they CAN see you when you’re moving, even if its slow. But use it to cross long distances without being picked off by range types.

I’m a range type and generally stick to my DMR, but I will use a BR On haven and Adrift. Storm rifle is decent but I am not very good with it.

Why do I always get the feeling that people are forever hunting me down in groups just to kill me. I can’t escape from anyone.

> Why do I always get the feeling that people are forever hunting me down in groups just to kill me. I can’t escape from anyone.

Do lions hunt the biggest, strongest gazelle that’ll put up a fight, or the small, weak ones they can easily tear apart?

Wait what? My eyes deceive me. The OP didn’t use the generic opening "I’ve been playing since Halo CE and…insert criticisms or praise of Halo 4. No -Yoinking!- way.
