So does anyone else think Buck might volunteer to become one? I mean it says in Reach, when selecting his FF voice, that if he were any better he would be a Spartan. I know the dude is ODST through and through. But I could see he wanting to do it because he might be able to save more people if he had the augmentations done to him. Also, if he does, that could set up bringing Buck back in future Halo games.
They did say something about thinking of bringing characters back…

Well Buck did survive Reach thanks to a Spartan so he could go S-IV in honor of Noble Six.

I remember that part, and buck. I was thinking of that when I learned about the spartan 4 project I think.
A line fro Halo 3: OSDT went something like this, “If he were any better, he’d be a Spartan.” So I think it’s TOTALLY plausible that Buck could be a Spartan IV. Given Nathan Fillion’s love of the Halo games and his voice-over work in them, I’m CERTAIN he’d be up for this. Heck, what about the rest of the ODST crew? A Firefly/Serenity reunion again!

I’ll be really disappointed if Buck, Dare, and the team are simply repurposed as Fours. From a canonical standpoint, it would make sense to give augments to UNSC special forces and ONI’s best. However, looking at the characters themselves, they managed to pull off an amazing feat as just a handful of regular Humans against tremendous odds.
That sort of thing needs to be highlighted, if not more, than the tales of supersoldiers.

Agreed. PLus you have to think of the quote mentioned above “IF he were any better he would be a SPARTAN.” It’s just saying that he is good, his skills are top notch. For all you know he was probably a 1st Gen SPARTAN like Avery Johnson.
If he made a comeback, I’d say keep him as an ODST. SPARTAN IV is a proposed project and most likely like the SPARTAN III program.
Too bad Johnson didn’t survive. That would be hilarious to see him cussing out Elites for the first time since Chief saw him.
