343 has been looking to Halo CE for weapon balancing. Barebones Halo 4 is going to be the best title to date. Thank you Bald God!
Cool. Just don’t want a 3 shot kill pistol. -_- I preferred the Reach TU one. Maybe Zero Bloom with one more shot to kill.
Oh no! “Barebones” is something in CoD! Ahhhhh! ANOTHER THREAD COMPARING HALO 4 TO CoD!
JK
But yeah. If weapon balancing works that way, there shouldn’t be any dumb, useless weapons.
> Cool. Just don’t want a 3 shot kill pistol. -_- I preferred the Reach TU one. Maybe Zero Bloom with one more shot to kill.
Reach one was garbage.
3-shot Pistol would be ideal, only if it is as hard to use as back in CE. Rarely did anyone pull off a 3-shot.
This is great news.
The use of term “weapon” is telling me you compare CoD with Halo. Because everyone know that CoD invented weapon. Shame on you OP!
On topic: Carry on.
Things must be balanced in Halo 4 pretty good if we can have barebones. I’d hate to use a weapon like the Reach plasma rifle; it’s so atrocious.

No armor abilities, even spawning, turning off all the stuff that doesn’t make Halo, Halo.

This concept is alien.
I just want to see the same weapon balance as in Halo 3. The AR was deadly for up close quick rushs, the BR was mid-long damage, sniping took skill. Rockets didn’t have ginormous splash damage, plasma pistol was a “noob” combo even though it took skill to use in the game, plasma rifle drained shields fast and provided an alternative to close-range damage and strategy…etc…etc…etc. Please make the weapons balanced, unlike Halo Reach where the all around weapon is only the DMR, which is sickening. I have been so pissed when a DMR wins against an AR in close-range battles.
Please learn from the mistakes of Reach. No Armor Abilities, definitely no Jet pack in Multiplayer. If you have AA in Campaign its all fine and dandi, but do not put it in Multiplayer. The stupidest armor ability in Reach was the poor attempt of a Bubble Shield, where you apparently poop one out every time the meter charges up.
Be smart 343i. Look back into your history and search what made Halo 2 and 3 (the most popular out of the series) so big and prestigious to even go to MLG. Sprint adds careless rushing with no planning (especially if you’re a wuss and you decide to sprint being one-shot in front of me, running 2 miles to hide behind a wall - that gets so annoying, and shows how the competitiveness of the game does not reward you for your planning or skill).
Also for the love of god, remove the huge vehicle damage from weapons. Make it like Halo 3 where you receive very small damage from weapons. If you want to maintain this system in campaign, again fine and dandi, but don’t implement it in Multiplayer. In Halo 3 Big Team I always enjoyed getting on the Chopper or Banshee. I could still be taken out(especially with the Chopper - I sucked using it, but it was fun!), and the pilot had to be effective with a lot of skill. In Reach it annoys me how you can shoot 20 times to whatever vehicle and it blows up, you’re kidding me right? This is why I don’t play Big Team as often, because the fun of using the Vehicle to see how long you can last is gone (as an effective pilot), as you get spam by shots from whatever and you just die.
You don’t need to change everything from Halo 3. Graphics are one, weapons another, but do not make radical alterations that do not resemble what Halo used to be. Please 343i, don’t make the same mistakes. If Halo 4 repeats all the mistakes of Reach I will be done with the franchise due to the disrespect to the community, particularly the competitive community.
Can someone direct me to this sparkcast?

The BR actually bested the AR in close range, still. It had no secondary effects to make up for the shortcomings in damage like the AR/PR did in CE(Both had additional damage for headshots, the PR had plasma stun).

Don’t worry, the 3 shot pistol most definitely won’t be returning since we can all agree on that fact that it was too powerful. It wasn’t even that great while playing online (Halo PC) though, since you had to lead your shots (rather than have hitscan) and compensate for the lag, making it an extremely difficult weapon to use.
But even with that pistol, Halo 1 had amazing balance. Every weapon was useful and able to defeat any other weapon as long as you used it in the right situation and/or was skillful enough. There was none of this “Oh, I have a BR and am a decent player, so now I can kill a guy using an Assault Rifle in close range” garbage we saw with Halo 3 (still loved that game though). Every weapon was worth picking up, even the Plasma Pistol, since that thing was a beast when you overcharged it.
Another thing that would be nice to come back from Halo 1 is the melee system, or at least the damage (which was great in the Anniversary playlists). The double melee was one of the worst things to have in Halo, since people would often resort to this rather than their weapon. This is a first person shooter, not a first person beat-em-up. In Halo 1 and the Anniversary playlists, having the melee require three hits keeps melee useful, but people will only use it as a finishing blow if they’re close in enough.
Anyway, I’m glad to see that 343 Industries is returning to the balance created in Halo 1. I’m looking forward to being able to pick up any weapon I see on the map and be able to do some killing with it.

Problem was that the BR was a 3-burst shot while the AR was a continuous burst. Also the reticle was smaller and more specific for the BR, while for the AR it was larger and you didn’t have to get a head shot necessarily. So yes in CLOSE-RANGE situations, the AR was preferred and an alternative to quickly rush when your opponents less expected it.

No the Halo 3 one was garbage. The pistol needs a scope.

Every post-CE Pistol was trash.
The Halo 2 one had absolutely no power behind it.
The Halo 3 one fired way too slow.
The Reach one is way too inaccurate to be used at anything outside point blank.

^ This
3sk pistol breaks any and all attempts at weapon balancing. Making only the Sniper and Rockets (in CE, anyway) the only viable alternatives.
Personally I think the pistol should go back to H2’s Semi Automatic; Not too powerful, and treated as a SIDE ARM which it SHOULD’VE BEEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.
You can argue that you don’t need a throw-away weapon, but the fact is; In H2/3/Reach if you started with BR/DMR and a pistol, you ditched the pistol for any power weapon you might’ve found anyway.
even IF 3sk anything returns, it should be in the form of a rifle. But here’s hoping it DOESN’T.

This doesn’t really mean anything. They strongly reinforced the idea there will be no “god” gun. That is the opposite of Halo 1 where obviously the pistol was the golden gun.
From what it sounds EVERY gun will have a scenario, range, or position in which it is “better” than any other gun. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to have the excuse - “Oh, at that range the DMR is just better than the BR so that is why I lost the fight”. Imbalances like this take away skill and skill gaps from the game and degrade the overall experience in the game because, like bloom, it gives a player and excuse from getting better at the game. The game is becoming more and more like CoD (since 343 has made it clear they want it to be relevant to pick between the AR, BR, and DMR) and that scares me very much despite the comforting comments that they want halo to go back to it’s Halo CE roots and that they want to create small arena/competitive maps.
