> I think this is not entirely true. Esports are no different from football or basketball, and it has become natural to constantly see news of these sports during the height of the season. I think it is better for a game to promote its esports than to mostly ignore them. (A good example of this is, alas, Team Fortress 2, the only blemish on an otherwise perfect game, and one of the reasons Overwatch has its undeserved precedence.) As for whether esports are fun to watch, I take more joy in watching well-played Halo or Counter-strike than in watching football. Smaller team composition means more chance for individual players to excel, (I’m thinking of S1mple here), and complex game mechanics which couldn’t realistically be accomplished in the real world lend to a more interesting game.

Haven’t got a clue, I don’t watch E-sports and only play videogames on console. Also there are five players on a basketball team, that’s not really a big team. As for football, I don’t know where you’re from so I can’t say for sure which football you’re talking about. If it’s the American kind, then I can absolutely relate, it’s the ultimate expression of capitalism, and is basically half commercials.
Anyway it’s not just during the height of the HWC season, there’s some news about it everytime the news feed jumps up when you start the game. I realise the 343 can’t cater to me alone, but I think there should be a menu in the game which allows you to watch E-sport news. But it’s just all over the main game, there are news and also some of my REQ points were spent unlocking weapon skins with team names on them, teams I have never heard of.
To me it’s a distraction which could easily be hidden, while still being easily accesible. And I realise the need for such a menu, as E-sports is big now but I just don’t see the appeal of watching someone else play videogames. I understand of course that this makes me a bit of a hypocrite, as I quite like watching sport but my approach to gaming is that it’s for fun, and not something to be taken too seriously. That’s not to say that I like losing in matchmaking, nobody likes losing, but it doesn’t really bother me.
One thing that would be cool was to add an age filter, nothing is more irritating than the high pitched scream of a losing 10 year old. Sadly this won’t happen because Halo is an M-rated game.
