A lot of people are upset about it. A kind of big hiccup especially for ultimate edition buyers who spent 100$ USD. But anyone who plays PC i think has great familiarity with this situation and as such should try to stem and calm down whats occuring.
A DLC is just as it is Downloadable Content. This ranges from cosmetics to characters. Small stuff that just personalize your experience pretty much.
An expansion is adding on to what already is there with entirely new content. Like with Battlefield. They have Short cut kit DLC and then expansion packs like second assault, Dragon teeth, etc.
Point is that if you buy that you have access to completely new things that are not in the base game at all.
So while we are used to the Season pass term coined mostly by CoD where you get everything this isn’t the case especially at 20$. For me someone who bought the pass seperate and got the normal game thats ok.
But anyone with ultimate edition please understand you got exactly your money’s worth. If i buy Halo Wars:DE i pretty much bought ultimate edition as well.
So the something that was a fault on 343, Microsoft’s side with people especially who pre-ordered the game. But for anything who got it after launch it was plain as to what you were buying.
So if you were not a pre-order ultimate edition. It not for you to point fingers at 343 and Microsoft.
Please just be patient and wait for all we know something might change. And if anything its coming in fall if you had 100$ to spend on ultimate i think you can save 5$ every month till it comes out to buy.
Forgot to add. Why battlefield was relevant. If you buy premium you get access to special premium stuff and all expansion pack but the DLC you still have to buy. So thats why its like 40-50 for that and only 20$ for this. Each hero is 5$ so if you add up right now we already have 15$ worth of content that sadly is lack luster till they iron things out. With 2 more at an additional 10$ so technically more than what you paid for already if as said lack luster which is a disappointment as to justifying why you spent that money
The issue is a change in the season pass description that went by largely unnoticed and not, what I recall, announced.
When I bought it, the description talked about expansion, later it talked about a few new campaign maps.
Couple that with there being a time of uncertainity that there may not be a “proper expansion such as ATN” at all, only a few missions and some leaders. Then we get announced that there will be an expansion, which is not part of something many of us bought believing it’d be part of.

yes please do.
Because:
A- I’m taking part of that topic
B- It doesn’t adress the fact that any announcement went far below the radar, going back to the communication issue. It would have been desirable.
I’m explaining why some are upset with i343.

Yes that topic highlights one point, but does not explain why 343 did not officially explain this. If you read the other posts on that thread you will see my point of people preordering the Ult.Edition based on the Old description, and NOT knowing about the change in season pass details as 343 did not announce/bring awareness to it, they did it quietly, and then in a CU announced the season pass only has 2 campaign missions.
You need to change your view on the paid dlc: When you buy it, you will get another campaign, which progress will get lost eventually and you have to replay it over and over again, like the base campaign
That means more playtime for everyone!
Ultimate edition was $80 US not $100.
You wanna jump through whatever mental hoops you want OP, go for it, but it doesnt change the fact that the season pass was bought and sold with the understanding of it providing access to all future content, bare minimum, of whatever 343 decides constitutes a season. 343 retroactively changing what it covers without telling anyone doesn’t change why hundreds of people bought it in the first place.
I don’t care that the new exansion is $20, I dont think everyone should have gotten it for free, and I definetly think it not being included in the season pass is an underhanded move that 343 deserves to be called out on.

Does anyone have what the original thing said? From what I recall, it said you got new leaders, new campaign missions, HW: DE, and you got to play a few days early. What did it change to?

Where did it say “everything post launch” will be free? I think you assumed things that weren’t confirmed.

HW:DE was a preorder bonus for the ultimate edition. The original description was the same at announcement, however instead of “missions” (i.e operation spearbreaker 2 mission DLC) it said “expansion” (i.e the now announced ATN). Now, fans who preordered the Ult.Edition on launch, bought it with the intent of a campaign expansion. They had no idea 343 changed the description-no announcement or anything like that. It then caught us by surprise after launch, in a community update, when we realised the campaign “expansion” from the season pass meant only a 2 mission addition, and now we see the expansion is seperate. Putting the pieces together, either swordbreaker was originally meant to be a bigger “expansion” or ATN was cut from the season pass due to cost. Either way, 343 should of let the community know about the changes before launch, as many on here preordered the Ult edition PURELY for the campaign expansion, not knowing the description was changed to “missions”.
This is why there was/is outrage on the forum. However, I do not agree with the other notion that “All” DLC is free, that being said, 343 should have created a rough roadmap (like what EA does with battlefield) so fans know when to expect content, and how much (i.e a large expansion or a smaller mission pack?). All this comes down to lack of clarity from 343, and them not officially announcing the changes made to the season pass contents after fans already bought (preordered) them.

I do agree that it would’ve been better if they mapped out everything first and revealed it to us, but can you find the original description? The only thing I found was a community update on the launch of the UE that said Spearbreaker and new leaders were part of the season pass.

Yes. There is an old forum post from last year with a season pass quote on it, here: Link to thread The thread is locked, but the old quote is there to read.
Ill put a quote for convenience:
"Grow your war chest with the Halo Wars 2 Season Pass. The Season Pass delivers regular updates that span more than six months and include: New Leaders with abilities that change the course of multiplayer battles, new Units that add to your multiplayer arsenal, a new campaign expansion with exclusive missions, and even more content to be announced soon." Therefore, based on this, it was clear the pass extends for 6 months (which is fine), but its the expansion part that was changed. And, as I said many preordered based on this. I don’t know the specific date it was changed either. I hope 343 can officially clear this up for everyone.
Also yes the community update is where we found out the season pass is a 2 mission mini campaign. I believe it is the one where kinsano launched.
Edit: Should add season pass quote has link to MS store with the new description of the season pass.
Edit 2: Also forgot to mention it says “More than six months”. So…thats another thing.
i feel like 50/50 on this because it’s only 20$ but at the same time i think it’s weird that’s it’s not in the season pass. but meh I’ll get it probably day one, if anyone remembers the cut content of H2 the flood juggernaut. that is indeed cannon and we will all get to kill it without mods and you get a campaign as the banished what’s not to like?

I believe they changed it for this very reason, because people would think that ALL campaign expansions would be included. I don’t think anything was changed, I think it was made more specific. ATN is releasing this Fall, putting it past the 6 month mark in September, October, or November. When they say over 6 months, this is to account for delays, and we’ve already had one with the last leader.

My problem isn’t with the date (although the “more than 6 months” is debatable-doesn’t matter now though) , its that we are no longer getting an expansion with the season pass as originally advertised, we are only getting 2 missions now. They should have made this more pronounced earlier rather than shocking everyone with a Banished campaign featuring the flood being sold separate. Also, the original description did not imply expansions, there was no plural, just “expansion”. Just 1. Therefore, there should be no confusion with the amount of “expansions” we would get if the description lacked a plural for the term.
