I’d truly like to find out sooner rather than later whether or not the Alert Carry has been applied to (at the very least - restricted) Online Multiplayer.
I remember the question got asked at a panel a few months back but the vagueness of the answer made it rather unnerving.
With all the brilliant effort they put in to giving us a near insurmountable number of things to do and play around with, will it really be that the one thing we still haven’t been able to do since the days of Halo: CE and Halo 2 will also sit out for Halo 4?
Frank O’Connor was asked whether or not weapon lowering would be possible in Multiplayer.
He confirmed that this would be the case. However, it was only stated to be part of ‘Multiplayer’, which was never confirmed to cover the form in it’s entirety.
If the Halo Machinima Community wants to stand a chance, they’re going to need online support through the use of an alert carry, otherwise face having to pay the cost for several consoles, games and other equipment or be faced with having to go through a painful editing process.
The guys at Rooster Teeth are fully capable of such a set-up but a vast number out there wouldn’t be able to keep up with the expenses of maintaining their own.
> Well Luke, that is a good question, I think it’s a good time to poke the cat!
It’s not like I haven’t poked the metaphorical cat before.
Back before the release of Reach, there was a time where people with Skype could have one free phone call, all expenses paid and so I called up (from the UK to the US) a radio station that was awaiting to answer questions about Halo: Reach.
I asked about whether the Alert Carry would make it on to online Multiplayer in Halo: Reach and I believe I got a ‘yes’ out of that. Come Reach, it turned out not to be the case.
I’ve always felt I’m an easily forgettable person and nowadays I just wonder if any of my efforts to find an answer to things is even worth it, since I can never seem to get a straight one.
> Well Luke, that is a good question, I think it’s a good time to poke the cat!
Usually when I poke cats, bad things happen. So let’s not poke any cats. How about we just ask Frank again? No need for any metaphors here, especially dangerous ones. Okay?
Also, guy above me, Rooster Teeth has magical powers to make gun lowering happen, it doesn’t have to be in game for them to do it.

uh… they just have a set-up of four consoles and have easy access to up to sixteen controllers at any one time. They can do it all on ‘Local’ because they have both the head count and resources to do so.
Whether Alert Carry is accessible online or not is the real issue here.
Well I guess I was wrong. But still, just because it’s in RvB doesn’t necessarily mean we can use it online, or even do it at all. We need actual, real confirmation; instead of speculations based off RvB shorts from what March, I think?
I’ll try to find it, but when Complex was first announced, there was an image of 3 blue team spartans running towards the camera with their weapons lowered. It might have been sprint, but they looked relaxed, so it might have been lowering weapons.

Rooster Teeth uses System Link and Multiple Xbox’s for Red vs Blue

The minimum that was confirmed verbally was that it’d be a part of ‘Multiplayer’.
I’m still trying to figure out which Q&A panel that was so I can link the source.
By now, the Alert Carry should be obvious as it’s become somewhat of a staple of the series. Just… not online.
EDIT: Is it me or has the title of this thread kicked off a trend of people with unanswered questions creating new threads? Just noticing all of these ‘So… about that [SUBJECT]…’ topics popping up.
Anywho, my hopes are set to minimum on my question receiving an answer at some point and I’ll probably end up finding out myself like I did with Reach that it’s probably going to be the same case scenario.
