Yeah but this is called customer expectations. If you sell a product to consumers who believe there should be more the product, if that demand isnt met, someone else will identify that and offer an alternative. Infinite wouldnt survive a targeted attack of its remaining player base.
Thats why its a very valid point at the moment.
It feels so damn weak. It’s really a regression… Halo 3 and Reach both featured different co-op characters.
I can’t believe we waited this long for such a weak co-op showing, and no couch co-op?
Normally I’d agree with you, but if customizable Spartans in Co-Op is the main point of contention, why wasn’t this an issue with Halo 4 or 5?
The biggest issue with Infinite is the overall lack of general features seen in other Halo titles over the years, and has been an issue stemming back to Halo 4 with the removal of Firefight. Getting upset at the lack of Co-Op and Forge (major assets) is entirely rational, as is the distinct lack of maps, game modes (and slow introduction of polished additions to this category).
Getting upset over “expectations” that had no tangible or logical reason to be expectations is not the same as the game not being “launch ready”, plagued with bugs and lacking overall major sections of content.
It’s not valid in the least.
It’s entirely understandable to be upset over an incomplete product and missing playable swaths of content that was officially supposed to be part of the experience, however getting upset over baseless wishful thinking is borderline childish.
It’s like being served a burger an hour after it was ordered and then voicing a complaint because your ketchup isn’t blue.
I’m sure you know by this point that we cannot have nice things. Quality of life features and even bare bones maintenance such as desync are seen as non-issues. The only way to not temper yourself with Halo Infinite is to expect absolutely nothing at all. Then when somehting does come you think: “Hm, this is interesting and acceptable.”
True, but this isn’t a stand alone product with promises, this is a generational iteration of a product.
A consumer has the expectations that as the product gets updated, it gets updated for the better. Always improving OR reducing the cost of the product to encourage sales.
Halo CE was good, 2 was better, 3 was better still.
A precedent was set, and players responded because each installment was better and better.
Then came 4, which was lackluster. Then came 5 with the different mechanics, poor story, and no couch coop.
Now infinite, broken, missing features that previous versions had.
So my argument here is that if the product is generationally declining in what the consumer wants, and the feedback the consumer is giving is being ignored, yeah they have a reason to be angry that their expectations (even if it wasn’t promised) aren’t being met.
All we keep hearing from 343 is “keep the feedback coming” but no consumer is seeing action on that feedback being taken. So anger will continue to build. Ideas will be put forward, and no action taken.
Frustration builds with the product until an alternative is found.
So your right on the surface that it’s not rational to be angry of non promised features from not being in the game, but the root of that anger and expectation lies in the fact that halo has not meet the expectations of the consumer for several generations. And with infinite in the state that it is, with the unfriendly player framework and policies that has been undertaken in this game, yeah, I’m not surprised that people would be angry over stuff like this.
I can understand why some people aren’t that bothered by the lack of customisation in co-op campaign, it wasn’t something that was every promised and doesn’t fundamentally alter the experience. That said, it’s just another example of where 343 could, with minimal effort, have done something a little extra yet have chosen not to bother.
I honestly wonder if the whole Dusten Echoes thing that Players 2-4 are going to be filling is just a placeholder, considering the fact that Fred, Kelly, and Linda ALSO have full render designs in MJOLNIR Gen-3 Mark VI like chief -

Considering these models exist, we might either get a DLC featuring them or have a Halo 5 kind of thing where if we play co-op, players get to choose who to play as during the Campaign.

Fun Fact
The design of the MJOLNIR Mark VI Gen-3 used by John, Fred, & Kelly is actually based off of their design in Halo Legends - The Package

I could also see the Chief clones just being placeholders for the flights. After all, 343 is known for having bugs and stuff. It could also be a nice little surprise.
